I never write reviews, but I want to give a big shout out to the Baker at McCrum's Bakery in Elmwood Park. I went to many bakeries before I decided on this one. They really listened to what I wanted and didn't make me do the legwork to buy the fresh flowers for my daughter's bridal shower cake. Every other bakery told me to buy them and they would put it on. Well, when you are throwing a shower, you don't need another thing to worry about. But, the most important thing was that the cake was the most delicious Red Velvet cake I ever had! Needed a cake for gender reveal party, called multiple bakeries and none would dye the actually cake blue or pink... (would only color the inside frosting), but not McCrum's!!!! They dyed the cake no problem! They made my cake just the way I wanted and on pretty short notice too.. staff was super friendly and cake very reasonably priced. Cake also tasted delicious. For the last 8 years I have been shopping at Mc Crumbs. Randy is super professional. Cakes and pies are delicious. They have always done the best of the best. The prices are extremely reasonable. Everyone has a bad day every now and then, getting out of the way and write a long&bad review of a small business? Terrible. This is one of the reasons I think humanity has no hope of survival. Hmmmm i have heard from different neighbors and friends about this bakery. However, i have tried ordering from them 3 different times and all 3 times they haven't been able to do it. The person on the phone was rude as well on my 3rd attempt didn't even try to work with me but instead it was a flat out NO for a small simple cake. I'm really glad they reopened at the new space down the road from where they used to be. It's a smaller space yet the quality stays the same and prices stay reasonable. I've gotten various Italian pastries from here from lobster tails to canollis as well as Italian cookies. Never disappointed and always reminds me of the Italian bakeries back home in South Philly. The seasonal goods are pretty on point as well, I've gotten pumpkin cheesecake and cider donuts. Boy, they were a hit. From the pictures, it looks like they do custom cakes as well. Gotta keep that in mind for future special events that need cakes. read more

Perhaps I am biased about this place because they are so friendly to me. But I love the service and their products. I have been coming here for years. My favorites are the ham and cheese croissants, cheese danishes and lace cookies. While I wish they have more savory baked goods, and offer more unique pastry; their customized orders are so incredibly made that it makes up for whatever I feel it lacks. I got 4 cakes from here for my daughter's first birthday and my guests went crazy over these cakes!!! I've never had a party where all the cake was finished at the end. I ordered cannoli, chocolate w chocolate mousse, strawberry shortcake, and strawberry ,banana and custard. They cakes were so pretty and so moist and delicious. I showed up today, with no notice, and ordered enough pastries to feed a small army. McCrum's went out of their way to help me customize my order for my groups demographic. I have had nothing but enthusiastic feedback from everyone in the office about the quality of the pastries. I am from California and that same order would have been three times as much. This review is truly LONG overdue. I have had many cakes and treats from McCrum's and have always been extremely satisfied. Everything is always fresh and delicious and I have always received great service. On Saturday my family threw me a baby shower and were sure to go to one of my favorite bakeries for my cake. This place is Soooooooooo good, I had to leave a review. My office is about two blocks down and one day I just decided to give it a try. When you enter the bakery you can smell the baked goods and warm bread. Cute quaint chairs and biatri tables, very clean and open display. I chose a bear claw to have with my morning coffee. First and foremost, I really like the baker statue they have outside the bakery. Mr. Baker statue made the bakery really inviting. I see it every time I pass by Market st. Also specials of the day, including holiday goodies. The owners are very warm and friendly, as well as the atmosphere. The place is clean and fun to sit and enjoy some coffee, espresso or cappuccino along with your goodies. I forgot to mention the several cakes I had ordered over the years which are fantastic. I was especially happy that the owner answered my call on Saturday at 5:15pm, told me they closed at 5pm but would wait for me to come to the store and place my order. Randy is so talented and such a down to earth baker. He customizes my orders to adhere to my specific sweet tooth taste. The Cranberry Walnut Muffins are a family favorite for weekend brunches.
