My wife and I went here last weekend even though it was a bit outside our normal Saturday night restaurant radius. It was worth it! We were greeted immediately and given a great table. We were quickly given papadum and water. For an appetizer, we ordered the crispy corn. We've never had that at any other Indian restaurant. It was delicious with multiple spices and moderate heat. For mains, my wife ordered the lamb chops. The serving was four nice sized pieces perfectly cooked. I had the Kadai Chicken which was also excellent. It was a little different from other places I've been too, and in fact was better. It had a decent level of heat, which I like. Elmwood Park, NJ - a warm establishment with a lovely proprietor and solid Indian food. Being a first-timer here, I ordered my usual litmus test dishes of chicken tikka masala and saag paneer (the classics), along with goat kolhapuri, butter chicken, and accompaniments of garlic naan and mango lassi. The chicken lollipop appetizer arrived looking the part - hot, crispy, and slightly zesty - but unfortunately didn't deliver on its visual promise. The dough was too thick and the meat rather rubbery, so the execution wasn't up to par. The mains, however, were redeeming. The gravy in the chicken tikka masala was delectable, and we enjoyed this as well as the kholapuri (which we asked for "extra spicy" but was just medium spicy to me - I'm sure others would disagree lol). My child loved his butter chicken. Both dishes featured substantial chunks of chicken. The saag paneer deserves to be mentioned for having a rough-chopped texture that I prefer, looking like actual spinach and not the zealously over-puréed green smoothie so many Indian restaurants inexplicably trot out. A touch over-salted, but otherwise tasty, and with an abundance of paneer. The lassi and garlic naan were both great. Portions are generous, and it's BYOB. Should you forget to bring something inebriating, a liquor shop is conveniently located just a couple of doors down. Owner/manager Austin is so welcoming and personable, earning this place extra hospitality points. Came by for lunch on a Sunday at around 12:30, with a party of 5 adults + 1 toddler. We decided to order a bunch of dishes to share: garlic naan, cheese naan, chicken lollipops, veggie samosa, chicken samosa, lamb saag, paneer tikka masala, butter chicken, and the chicken korma. Guess you can say we were hungry (lol). My favorites were probably the chicken lollipop, and lamb saag - and I'm not usually the type to order lamb. But this was very tender and not gamey at all. I preferred the veggie samosa over the chicken samosa and loved the green chutney. Paneer tikka and butter chicken was solid too - though I usually can't really tell the difference between the two sauces. I didn't love the chicken korma because there's a spice (I think either the cloves or cardamom, but I'm not sure) I don't like. Everything else was good though, so I'd definitely come back and explore more dishes. read more

Tried coming here once before and they were closed. Got takeout and I'll definitely be a repeat customer. Called ahead and was quoted 15-20 minutes. Good was ready when I got there. Restaurant is clean and they have plenty of tables. I ordered the butter chicken and garlic naan. Butter chicken was creamy and flavorful with a decent amount of chicken included. I could eat this multiple times a week. Not spicy. Comes with rice. The garlic naan was fresh, warm and flavorful. It came out to about $22 but I would eat it for multiple meals. I have ate here in person many times and food was good . But unlike any other Indian place which has been opened in the last 10 years in ny/nj the quality goes bad over time . Initially I thought this place would be an exception but sadly that didn't happen I ordered chicken kolhapuri at my home , and thev gravy was outright bad . Like rubber chicken with water. Why do people do this? I tried to throw just the gravy and put the chicken on another gravy from my house to atleast make it edible but that doesn't help . Once the dish has gone bad it's beyond repair I called the owner and he said he would adjust it . I mean it's night and I want food to eat . Especially decent edible food . I cannot eat money for dinner . The world has not come to that yet . The day humans eat paper money that adjustment is fine I often see this happening with restaurants which might serve better food in person , their delivery is bad sometimes . Especially towards the end of the day/ at night . I don't know their thought process but maybe they think if they serve inedible food at night the customers will not notice given he or she is really hungry. That's not how hunger works . They think we would blame the person who delivered the food . This kind of quality degradation has happened a couple times and at this point I am never going here again Nobody knows if they changed the chef or took advantage of a hungry person at night by delivering them inedible food . Great improvement on the decor from the old place. We won't miss the mustard yellow walls. The food was excellent. The chicken tikka was a bit sweeter than I like but overall no complaints. I went here with my family a little bit ago and I think it's good food. It's a little bit on the more expensive side, especially considering the portions. But it is authentic Indian food. It's honestly not that busy. It was pretty empty when we went actually. I think we were the only ones who went for the weekend lunch special. It is a good location. Has a lot of parking which is great. It just opens late. I think it opens at like 11 or 1130 on the weekend so I did wish that it was open earlier, but it is what it is. The only thing I would say is that the server made a lot of mistakes. So he brought us out the wrong flavors of stuff, the wrong types of drinks, etc. The biggest issue was that he kept messing up how we were splitting the check. And it wasn't that confusing. We were just splitting it between two cards however he kept double charging one person's card and not splitting the check between the two and when we try to get him to fix it. He just flat out refuse. So that was frustrating. The manager ended up getting involved in fixing it, but it was definitely very shocking to have someone say that they made a mistake but that they weren't going to fix it or offer any type of resolution. I think if the staff is just reminded of having a higher level of customer service, this place can really takeoff. read more

A small restaurant off Rt. 46 E that disappoints. Took my inlaws and wife here and we regretted it. Overall the food was mediocre but spicy, customer service was almost nonexistent. We were not greeted with a smile but our reservation was validated by a man with messy curly hair. Throughout the visit he did not smile and had a grumpy attitude as if he hated us being there. We ordered the aloo papdi chaat, hakka noodles, chicken sheekh kabab, chicken tikka, dhaba chicken(replaced with chicken kadai), and veg jalfrezi. Only thing that was good was chicken tikka where the chicken was soft and well done. The rest did not taste fresh and my in laws complained everything had a heavy south indian taste in it. Tonight we had shrimp biriani and paneer butter masala. Both were excellent, spicy, but the heat and spice didn't overwhelm the flavors. The shrimp were large! Plump, juicy and tender. We also both had masala tea which was served at just the right temperature and richly aromatic. The service is lovely. Genuinely friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive. I have been in Elmwood park 15 years, never have I ever had Indian food that taste so divine here or nearby. Especially the indo-chinese items, chef Rakesh did his magic. We had samosas, pani puri, chicken tikka Marsala, chicken biriyani, lamb vindaloo, and shrimp saag. I especially loved pani puri. There were four of us with a plate of 6 balls. When we said we would have to fight for the last two, they brought extra. Austin was very attentive asking in advance about our spice tolerance..When he learned we were celebrating a birthday, he gave us free Gulab Jamin with a candle on it and played a pre-recorded birthday music in the background.
