When the end of the year rolls around I know it's time to renew my vehicle safety check. I always make it a point to drive to McCully Union Service. Why do I make the trip out from Kapolei? The servicemen here are excellent. Never have I been made to feel like I need to completely overhaul my car in order to pass an inspection. It's always a clear cut interaction detailing what doesn't pass. Inspection usually takes no more than 15 minutes. I've been to many gas stations and Fast Lubes but always had subpar service and left with a hefty bill to get my safety. That's not the case here. read more

I love this place!!!!! I only come here for my safety check ($25 with tiny) but they are always extremely nice and efficient. I usually go early when they open and sometimes there's already a car or two ahead of me but even though I'm in my car, they acknowledge me and let me know they will be right with me. Great customer service! They are so fast. You'll be out in 15 minutes if there's no other cars but even then, not a long wait. I had a failed safety inspection and realized I had to get some things fixed on my car. I also had a nail in one of my tires and found out I needed 2 new tires.. on top of that my a/c compressor was dead.. I came to the shop and Casper and his associates not only gave me an excellent price for the entire job, but showed me the upmost of customer service.. this shop is a rare gem as I would have paid a hefty price just for the a/c as quoted elsewhere.. I would say these guys are friendly, but not honest. I'm not sure how there are consistently 5 stars in their review where one could easily have gotten several quotes from other mechanic shops and realize they have been ripped off. It's highly suspicious that those reviews are fake or from their buddies. ALL the 5 stars reviews are for safety checks, of course, they would want to do a safety check as fast as possible because the shop doesn't make any money doing safety checks and the longer they take the more they lose money. A safety check is $25, how much do you think the shop is making if they actually took the time to do a safety check?! I took my car for a pre-purchase inspection and after two hours he told me that the motor mounts were bad which we had already suspected it to be broken. Then said "it will be around $1500 to replace them," told us that we had an oil leak which is no big deal. (which was a big deal because the gasket valves need replacing) We chatted about other non-car related stuff and I asked again in the end on the estimate of replacing the engine/transmission motor mounts. He then said "oh close to 2 thousand" Why did your story change? Why do you charge 3 times more? Is it because you think we are not local and we don't know the surrounding mechanic shops? Friendliness definitely does not make up for dishonestly and price gouging. I would recommend everyone to get a quote from several mechanic shops before going with this one, and would never recommend this shop. Like one other reviewer said, he went to the next block to Artesian and got a price estimate that was significantly cheaper. Try Artesian and Mobotech before coming to this shop, because their prices are outrageous. You should be ashamed of yourselves for these prices. read more

TRUST THESE GUYS. I was able to drop my car off around 830a and get it diagnosed quickly. Wheel bearings needed replacing and they would get it done for me at a reasonable price. I asked for an oil change and to fix my squeaky brakes too, since I was there. I left to play golf and told them if they found anything else broken in my car to just fix it and charge me. Would you really tell that to any service shop if you didn't trust them?! Find something wrong, fix it and then charge me? I got a text in the afternoon it was ready. I was stuck in traffic and they were kind enough to stay open just a couple minutes late to allow me to get my car before they closed.. however, if I didn't make it, they were going to drop my car off at the 76 nearby and I could pay them and pick it up there if I was getting back late. Wow! How convenient!! Trustworthy, reasonable, efficient.. what more can you ask for? read more

Exceptional service!!! Yesterday was my first time going there, and I will definitely return to get my safety check here in the future!! Staff is very thorough and efficient, and during this time with Covid, all staff members wore masks while working. Although there were a couple of cars in front of me who were also getting their safety check done, I was in and out within 30 minutes, so about 10 minutes per car. Very pleased with how they conduct things there and the prices were good. They accept cash and card. Total came out to less than $27. It's a pretty common thing for me to run over screws. I'm not sure why I keep running over screws, but I am happy that McCully Union Service is there to help! Recently, my low tire pressure sensor went off in my car. I visually inspected my tires and found the damaged tire after taking the tire pressure of each one. One tire was noticeably less inflated than the others. I looked on Yelp and McCully Union Service was the highest rated place that fixes cars that was closest to my house. I called them inquiring if they fix tires, and they were able to help me right away. After a short drive, I was there to get help. There were a few people ahead of me when I arrived. Someone else had a damaged tire as well. Another person appeared to be getting their safety check. I waited patiently for a little while and then they were able to fix my tire. Altogether it took less than an hour and I was happily on my way. I found the charges to be reasonable at $25 for a single tire repair. Not too bad and the person that fixed my tire looked to be an expert at his craft with my limited knowledge of tire repair. I will come back for sure when I need more help with my car. I am super busy. It is so hard to find places that are able to do Safety Inspections and in a timely manner. I remember passing this place awhile back. There was a line. I assumed it was for Safety inspections. I decided to try this place when all others just didn't seem to have the time and appointments were so far out. I pulled up in the morning. Called while I was in line. They confirmed yes, line is for Safety check. Only waited about 10min. Gina was perfect. Top notch Customer Service. So fast and efficient. Can't find service like this nowadays. Completed my Safety check and on with my day. I think Service stations are only allowed to charge a certain amount for safety checks. Too bad because I know I would have paid more for this level of service. It is nice to see places like this have excellent service for the community. This will be my go-to place. When its that time of the year to renew my safety inspection, this is the place I normally go. They used to be the same guys that did the safety inspections in the old 76 gas station on Beretania, but they moved to this location instead, some years ago. Theyre located on Beretania, on a one way street nearby Watanabe Bakery and Kalihi Pet Clinic. Its kind of easy to miss since people are always going by so fast on that street; but if you see Kalihi Pet Clinic, start to slow down because its going to be on the left side of the street, right past the clinic. They have a large white sign, but like i said, its easy to miss xP I pulled into the lot to a line of cars going into a small covered area where a mechanic was inspecting cars. We waited in line for about 15-20 minutes, and were told to pull in. We were able to stay in the car while he did the inspection; he asked us to turn on certain lights, pop the hood, etc. He was really thorough with his inspection; this was the first time that anyone has ever opened my hood to look in at my engine with a flashlight. He had also noticed that a couple of the little lights by my rear license plate were out and told me, asking if I wanted him to change it. I gave the go ahead, and he changed it within a few minutes 0.0 I dont think Ive ever changed those lights since getting my car (for over 8 years now!), so I was surprised. He asked for my paperwork for my registration, and automatically put my new sticker on; I passeddd! Yayyyyy! The total for the inspection and the light bulbs came out to $30. Not bad. My boyfriend had some questions about whether his car would pass or not because there were a few things that werent working very well. Kaylin? (the mechanic) was super informative and friendly about it. We got out of there within 10-15 minutes of starting the inspection. Easy peezy! I decided to write a review about this place because of their service. There are not many places that have super friendly people and great service. Especially someone working outside in this heat. They let you stay in the car while they do everything for you. You don't have to get out to pay or anything. Literally just sit there. I came to get my safety check. They are quick and efficient and like I said earlier super friendly. I ended up going through the whole check when they asked for my paperwork. Turns out my insurance company put the wrong VIN number on my insurance card. I had to call the asked them to update it and email it back to me. Instead of having me pull on the side he just said 'it's ok I'll wait, shouldn't be too long, plus you waited in that long line already better to get it all done now' I felt so bad making the people behind me wait that I just told him I'd come back. He gave me a temporary and told me to come back by 4 or that they open at 7am the next day. Tip: do not go the first week of the month. It was crazy busy. I was in line for 45minutes. But I didn't mind cause I needed it done. My fault for waiting until the last minute. read more
