We were in and out in less than 10 minutes. The process is incredibly organized and they have clear signs showing where to queue, and while we waited, they completed one inspection ahead of us. One employee handled the paperwork while the other performed the inspection, checking lights, blinkers, and making sure everything on the vehicle was working properly. The price was $27 if you pay with cash or $30 with a credit card, which was very reasonable. The entire team was friendly, efficient, and clearly knew exactly what they were doing. Another car pulled in after us for a safety check and was finished shortly after as well. They've truly got the process down to a science. Not so positive: grouchy old men, they bark not speak, they don't remove the old sticker and slap the new one sloppily on top of it so it rests on the license plate frame, increased the charge and add $3 of you pay by credit card, changed their hours of operation (maybe due to need for early naps). read more

My office manager suggested that I come here last year. Convenient and very close to work. My first time here, it was quick and easy. No appointment needed for safety check or was not rudely turned away from auto mechanic shops when it gets too busy despite making calls and waiting/confirmation before coming over. Was impressed with the service so I came back again. On my recent return, i noticed the hours changed. I miss this place having to be opened until 4:00ish since my last safety check. Still do not need to get out of the car but just need to get your required documents ready as well as the mileage since they will ask from you verbally and check your odometer. Need to follow the staff instructions as asked and they do check window tint. They usually take out the old safety stick and place new one on your bumper but this time, the staff just placed it over my old which I didn't like. I tried asking but no time so maybe next time... This place can get busy since I had to park on the side and wait in line queue outside and reversing back into traffic on queen street can be intimidating at times when it is busy after all is done. $27 safety check fee which includes tax (but add $3 more if paying by debit/credit card). Had my safety inspection done and my experience with great people was not great. They slapped on my safety on my car and was done in a way that was not how I expected it to be. Had air bubbles and had to redo my sticker myself. . I asked the guy to fix it he said "what you like me do l! The guys are not nice at all very demanding and not friendly. . Thanks for the recommendation my fellow Yelp Peeps. On Monday I took my father in law car for a safety check . I normally I go to a place on Dillingham Blvd . Although with all the construction of the rail I decided to head down on Queen St. I seen a few reviews on Yelp regarding Great People Auto . When I got there 4 cars already was ahead of me . To my surprise it goes by quickly . The service there is friendly quick and efficient. I believe they only do safety check because they have a system and it really works . There's a gentleman cones to your car and collects your registration and car insurance than he ask you tomorrow pull your car into the garage. Then the other guy tells you to turn on all your signals and the run down . Before you know it it's all complete than your backing your car out and on your way . Friendly, fast and no appointment needed. I forgot all about my safety check because my registration was in a different month. I only had a couple of days left in the month then found out I didn't have a current copy of my registration. Once I got a duplicate, I just had to show up during business hours and follow instructions. In and out quickly. Definitely recommend going here. read more

Well... there are several car shops on Queen Street. I was hoping that she meant Great People Auto because that's the one that popped up on my Yelp app when I searched for "Safety check". My friends (Angel, Irene, Jarod, Cecily, and Maggie) all wrote 5-star reviews for Great People Auto. It was a no-brainer to drive here. The signage is clear and visible. A nice man motioned for me to pull my car up into the shade. I stayed in my vehicle and handed over my car registration, last Safety check, and car insurance documents. He asked me to turn on my left signal, right signal, head lights, brake lights, windshield wipers, etc. It was so easy and just $26. Wow! What a deal! Came here to renew my safety check. There was a line of 3 cars in front of me, but these are truly Great People! They are so organized and efficient. There are 4 guys working there and they each have a specific role. They work together so well to make the safety check process go quickly and efficiently. They gave clear instructions on what you should do and are super friendly. Even with the line, I was still done with my safety check within 20 min! Amazing! My fault for waiting until the end of the month....i was nervous that the line would take hours to get through. I waited in line after 1300 on a Monday....and it took a total of 15 minutes waiting and line and getting through the inspection. The men asked for current auto insurance, safety check and car registration once they guided into the shop. It cost $27, they prefer cash. I kid you not. Literally took less than 8 minutes from the time I pulled up and there was a car in front of me too. It was the fastest safety check I have ever done and the people who were helping me were so friendly. Safety check always gives me anxiety because I panic when people telling me to turn on my signal light...right, left side, press your break...etc.... lol... I don't know why but it does. Seriously -- they live up to their name. They're great people! The safety check is the dumbest law in the book of Hawaii. You pay someone $27 to verify your taillights and blinkers are working. When was the last time ANYONE had those fail on them? To make things worse, most safety check places have a god complex, as if you have to beg for a sticker. But I digress. Great people should really change their name to rude people. Never have I dealt with such rude and grumpy old men. I understand that you may hate your job but to be rude to a mom with three kids just trying to follow the rules is insane work. Yelled at me and then chastised me for asking if they offered military. The sign says it all... You may not have know the name but you know what they do and certainly does it best...Safety Check. The two gentleman that runs the place are awesome as I went through the entire month thinking that it's about due realized on the very last day that it was about to expire GAH! and left my insurance card at home because I'm able to obtain a virtual card and with my luck the site was down...sigh...could've done it that very day but unfortunately wasn't gonna make it since I didn't have my card and ended up going the very next morning. You know where it is on Queen Street with the huge yellow "Safety Check" sign and this tiny garage has a great system upon arrival just hang right, just beside the trailer and keep the left driveway open as the current card that's being checked needs to reverse out and once done which then you move forward to be processed. Super fast and easy just all your card readily available and it's just $26 a great price at Great People Auto are wonderful and wished I knew about them as you just drive up and get it done no need appointment, no need to go to specific hours to get it done these guys are here and ready...unlike myself lol! Best place I've ever received a safety check from. Drove all the way from Aiea cause I've had terrible experiences from other places on my side. Normally have to wait half a day to get one done even with an appointment. Found them on Yelp and all I can say is 10/10 recommend. I have anxiety driving into town, didn't know what I was doing when I pulled in. Was greeted nicely and shown how to pull into the garage. Super nice people and great service. No hassle at all. I lined up on December 30th, behind a few vehicles at about 9am-ish, needing a safety check before mine expired on December 31st. The two vehicles in front of me went super fast about less than five minutes wait. My turn was next and it was a smooth process. Had all of my car paperwork ready, the updated registration, current insurance card, & they asked for the old safety check too. I drove in and they had me run through the blinkers, headlights, brakes and such. They thought my tint was too dark, but I assured them that I went to T&T tinting before showing them my paperwork receipt for the tint service. T&T only does legal tinting for vehicles. However, they still checked it with their tint meter. No problem! Passed with the legal limit of 35%, of course. At least they do what they need to do and provide kosher safety check inspections. The value was good at the standard rate of $26.00 for the safety check. Again, I highly recommend coming here if you need a safety check in a pinch and have all of your updated paperwork ready to go. The hubby loves coming here for the safety check. You don't need an appointment. You just drive up and wait in line. Usually there's only one or two cars ahead of you as they move really fast. You drive up and the guy working there will ask for mileage, registration and insurance. They'll tell you to drive up, turn on the blinkers and windshield wipers.
