When you need a quick meal prepared fast so your on your way the drive through is always a convenient way to place your order, however, today the line seamed to be at a slow pace. Waited patiently then decided to come inside to order. Walked in placed my order, got my food and i was on my way.

This may seem like a strange story to relate, but here goes. Several weeks ago, our dear aunt in San Jose became quite ill, so we dropped everything and headed north. Several days later, she sadly passed away in the hospital with lots of family members and close friends there to lend support to the immediate family. After three days of intense emotions, we were wrung out and ready to drive home. We got off the freeway at the Cochrane exit to find a Starbucks. We ended up on the west side of the road, and realized that we were hungry with a long drive ahead of us. In that moment, though I rarely eat burgers, and when I do, it's not normally at McDonald's, I got a craving for a simple Quarter Pounder with Cheese. They had a deal on two, so that was our impromptu dinner. We sat in the car in the parking lot, eating our comfort food. Perhaps because of the tremendous loss we'd just suffered, in the moment, that burger was extra tasty. Almost a life-affirming moment. I relate that to longing for a normalcy of a less complicated time before experiencing the death of a loved one. We never went inside the restaurant. Our only contact was at the drive-thru, and eating that well-prepared burger in the parking lot. Whoever was cooking that day did a good job.

So, I live for coffee. I roast it, buy it, sell it, cup it, pack it, ship it, mix it, blend it…read more.. you name it. So when I travel, I'm usually hauling around an arsenal of brewing gear like some caffeinated survivalist. And yeah... I'm picky AF. I like what I like. So if you're gonna serve me coffee, it better show up dressed in a suit and tie. In this case, it absolutely did. I had to give the local spot near Grandma's house a shot. I walked in with crossed fingers and low expectations, but walked out with a satisfied palate, a smile, and an eagerness to visit again soon. This is NOT your run-of-the-mill coffee shop. They roast onsite. Real deal, Holyfield. I started with an espresso. Then a cortado. Then grabbed a bag of Yirgacheffe to go because I gotta see what else they got going on. . These guys clearly know what they're doing; and if they don't, they accidentally perfected it anyway. The espresso was balanced, clean, and intentional. Nothing hidden behind over-roasting or gimmicks. Just refined quality coffee handled correctly. I'm genuinely glad spots like this exist, and even happier one sits right here near my fam. Seriously, can't wait to visit again.

We've…read moreactually been here before and came back specifically because their coffee is genuinely excellent. This time, however, the experience was a bit mixed. The drinks were still top-notch--we really enjoyed them, and the Mediterranean bagel was also fresh and delicious. Quality-wise, they absolutely deliver. That said, the customer service unfortunately didn't match the level of the coffee. The cashier interaction felt curt and low-energy, and overall not very welcoming. When my husband asked about their most popular specialty drink, she mentioned the "Milky Way" and compared it to a Starbucks macchiato--which felt like an odd comparison for a specialty coffee shop that otherwise seems to take pride in its craft. More than anything, the interaction came across as disengaged and a bit uninterested, which stood out because places like this usually shine in both product and service. We'll likely still come back for the coffee and food, but I do think the service experience matters a lot--and this visit didn't quite meet expectations on that front.

The li hing mui was sadly unremarkable. It was ginger ale, konjac jelly, ice, and maybe a touch of li hing. It really didn't taste much like sour plum. Just ginger ale for around $8? No thank you. On the other hand, their boba is quite a good texture but not enough to come back for. The banana matcha looked pretty but only tasted like banana milk. No creaminess or matcha. The sweet potato waffle fries were the same you can get anywhere. Very crispy. The garlic cream cheese bagel is trying to be the Korean garlic cream cheese bread but it falls completely flat. Just a greasy bagel with a hint of extra flavor and some whipped cream cheese. Not worth the extra wait or price. The place was also very busy for a 3pm on a Monday. Not much seating because the few tables were each claimed by a single person with a laptop. It's also quite loud so headphones is a must for people who want to study. Overall, unimpressive. Priced as if you're getting more quantity and quality than you are.

The experience here used to be something special. About a year ago, I was a regular, and what kept…read moreme coming back was the freshness. The donuts were made to order, and I still remember the two young employees who worked there. They'd happily let you know it might take a few minutes because they wanted you to experience the product the way it was meant to taste. That kind of pride in what you're serving is rare, and it made a real impression. There's something different about that kind of enthusiasm coming from employees versus an owner. An owner has an obvious stake in selling you on something, but when the people making your food are genuinely excited for you to try it, that energy is contagious. You can't help but feed off of it. Fast forward to this year. My daughter loves coming here since we frequently visit the amazing Chinese restaurant next door (China Delight-highly recommend), so I've brought her a few times. Unfortunately, it's been a different experience. The donuts are always pre-made, and the focus seems to be more on cleaning and closing down than on having a fresh product ready for customers. To be fair, the staff is always friendly and I do appreciate a clean shop , but when I'm choosing between a spotless floor and a donut worth eating, I'd rather have the latter. I'll note that I usually come a bit after dinnertime, so maybe timing plays a role. But after a few visits with the same result, it feels more like a shift in priorities than bad luck. I genuinely hope this place finds its way back to what made it great. The bones are there. The location is great, the staff is kind, and clearly there's a customer base that wants to love this place. Bring back the fresh donuts and you'll earn those stars back!!

In addition to mochi donuts they sell hot dogs, coffee, and fruity tea. I was in the neighborhood so I stopped in for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The shop was empty of customers; they must be busy in the mornings. They sell three donuts for $10.50, but they seemed to be out of quite a few flavors, so I ordered two chocolate and one Nutella. They are pre-made and stored in a glass case, unlike other places like Modo Hawaii that make them when you order. The donuts come in a nice box. They are large and dense and chewy, but weren't to my taste as I like them smaller and lighter, but that's just a personal preference. I'm not sure if I will go back, but I hope they do well at the Cottle location.

I ordered the Power Panini, which is a chicken sandwich with pesto, mozzarella, greens, and roasted tomatoes on multigrain wheat bread. Wow was it good. I loved everything about it, including the bread. It was pretty big, too. I asked the cashier if I could get plain apple juice, which wasn't on the menu, and she offered to make a fresh squeezed drink or one from store bought apple juice. I went with store bought and it tasted great. My sister had The Incredibowl, which is organic açaí, different kinds of fruit, granola, almond butter and milk, and honey. She seemed to enjoy it at first and then pushed it away when she got about halfway through. Not sure what happened. The cafe is small and cozy with just a few tables inside and a few more outside. Our food was brought out to us in a bag, which I thought was weird since we were dining in. My sandwich was hot and very delicious. The chicken was very tender and not dry at all. My green tea was iced cold and refreshing. My husband enjoyed his salad but thought the beef texture was off and tasted old. He said he wouldn't order it again. But the salad part was very good and fresh. He enjoyed his kombucha. He thought the nutty açaí bowl was just okay and didn't taste any peanut butter. We think they forgot to add it. I didn't like the nutty açaí bowl. I didn't care for the flavor. I prefer the açaí bowls at Palmetto Superfoods. I'd probably come back for the sandwich but nothing else.
