The flavors were rich and smooth, and the sweetness level was perfect and not overpowering, just really balanced. The salted coffee had this amazing creamy, slightly salty foam that made every sip so good. We also tried the breakfast PÂTÉ CHAUD--both the pork and the spinach--and wow... they were soooo good. The pastry was perfectly flaky and warm, and the fillings were super flavorful. It was the perfect pairing with the coffee. The whole experience was great--great drinks, great food, and a spot we'll definitely be coming back to. Yummy banh mi and pate chaud! I got their grilled pork banh mi for lunch one day and shared a chicken pate chaud with my husband. I've never had a pate chaud before but it was super similar to other Asian savory pastries and I enjoyed it a lot. They also serve other foods such as spam musubis and other flavors of pate chaud as well as many different kinds of Vietnamese coffees and matchas with fun flavors such as egg, coconut, durian, ube, etc! I've been hearing about Phin cafe for a few months now but haven't made a dedicated trip to try. Had lunch yesterday in the plaza across the street and saw it was close by!!!! Sunday afternoon around 2pm did not have a line, pretty quiet and empty besides 4-5 people waiting for their drinks. I walked in and was so happy to see a long list of Asian flavored cream topper to their coffeeee!!! I saw that they had durian, pandan, ube and of course egggg. There were more but those flavors stood out to me the most. The only downside is that they don't really tell you the difference between the house coffee or the in-house phin coffee unless you ask the cashier. The house coffee is their regular coffee with a flavor cream topper. The in-house Phin coffee has to be drank in store, comes with their drip coffee with condensed milk, the foam on the side and pieces of toasted baguette to dip and eat with it. After the cofffee is done, you pour into your cup of ice and put the cream top over it. We got the house coffee with durian topper and the Phin coffee with pandan topper. My friend and her bf both got pate chauds-- one sesame and one chicken. Wait time for food and drink was relatively quick. Maybe 5-10 minute or less. My friend mentioned the pate chaud was dry but flavor was ok. The lightly buttered sweet toasted baguette that came with the Phin coffee was also soooooo dry. I tried eating it and I couldn't even finish it, even dipping it in the cream didn't save it The coffee itself was pretty good!! The durian cream is very fragrant and yummy, not too overpowering but good for durian lovers. The pandan cream was also fragrant and had the classic coconut and light vanilla grassy taste. My friend's bf liked their coffee so much, he ordered the coconut one to go for later! Decor was very cute, I love the extra cushions and benches. We came here on Christmas morning for our coffee fix. Located in a small strip mall, Phin Cafe is known for their Vietnamese coffee and other Asian inspired drinks. The service is really nice and everyone is friendly. There is ample parking in the strip mall. I went with a coffee latte with matcha cloud topping ($7). I wasn't sure what to expect mixing coffee with matcha, but it came out great. The latte tasted like a normal latte with milk and gave that coffee taste I was looking for. I've been here a few times and gotten both their specialty coffees and food. The restaurant itself is in a little strip mall close to the 85 on ramp, so if you're driving around it's convenient. They also have a large parking lot. Inside it's not that big, but the menu is pretty large with lots of coffee options and a good food selection. Their coffee drinks to tend to be both very strong and pretty sweet. Even if you ask for a "less sweet" it's still going to be way sweeter than a traditional coffee shop. And if you're sensitive to caffeine you may find your heart pounding a bit. The food is quite good, too. I'm partial to their banh mi, which has amazing bread and lots of fresh herbs and delicious meats. I tried their teriyaki spam and egg one last time I was here, and even though it sounds unusual it was very good. I'd go so far as to say this place is fine to visit if you just want food, even without the coffee they do a good job. Service isn't the fastest since everything is made to order but the people working there are quite nice. They have free wifi and I do see people working there. Prices are about average, it's certainly not cheap but about what I'd expect for fancy coffee and made to order food. The cashier seemed really rude and uninterested while taking our order, like she just wanted to get it over with. No smile, greeting, or basic friendliness at all. Got here on a Saturday and it was not as crowded as my first time here but a constant flow of ppl coming in. We Ordered the egg coffee, durian coffee ,banana matcha, and sesame rose matcha. All of these tasted good to me, except for one, the sesame rose matcha, for me, the flavors just didn't work together. It tasted as if I was drinking the left over water from a can of beans, that's just the thought I kept having. It's on the menu for a reason so that's just my taste buds for me, but I would definitely like try other drinks on the menu. They do have a seasonal drink menu that's currently on display, but apparently it's either old from lady or just not in season. It's their corn series for a fall. Why have it up if it's not available, my wife was excited to try it, but we were sadly informed that it's not in season. Coffee price here is good in comparison to America coffee shops, but pricier than other viet coffees .If you're looking for Vietnamese coffee with a sophisticated spin, than this is the place. I actually live closer to this coffee spot, but never came by because of mixed reviews from friends and family. We came here on a Friday morning and it wasn't busy inside. We got home to try the banana matcha and it was just okay... it's definitely not what you would expect if you're used to having the banana cream on top, but it's not bad either. It literally tastes like the korean banana milk drink mixed with matcha. I'm used to just having banana cream on top and the matcha on the bottom without being mixed so it threw it off a little. One of my friends really enjoyed the drink because he said he likes bananas and matcha whereas my other friend said the taste of the banana was too strong for her. Nice coffee shop with a good vibe overall. I stopped in for a matcha while being back in California and appreciated that it was relatively affordable compared to some nearby spots. The space itself is pleasant--lots of seating, comfortable temperature, and a mix of people working and hanging out. They don't offer almond milk, which was a downside for me, so I went with whole milk instead. Oat milk is the only alternative. Since Ube naturally leans on the sweeter side, I recommend ordering this drink 50% sweetness. -Banana Matcha (2/5): I was really excited to try this viral drink. Unfortunately, the banana matcha fell flat for me. The banana flavor was very faint and the matcha tasted watered down. I ordered this drink 50% sweetness and felt like I could've gone higher. I'm glad I tried this drink once but won't be ordering it again. -California Musubi (2/5): Filled with imitation crab, cucumbers, and avocado, this musubi was very simple and lacked flavor. Although it came with spicy mayo sauce on the side, I don't feel like it complemented well. I don't think I'll be getting this again. However, I am curious to try the other musubis they offer on their menu like the Spam and Egg or the Teriyaki Spam Musubi. -Grilled Chicken Banh Mi (5/5): This sandwich was flavorful and tasted very fresh! I really wanted to love Phin Cafe, but my experience was pretty disappointing. I ordered the Matcha Cloud Matcha and it was way too sweet, like sugar with a hint of matcha. I took one sip and honestly couldn't finish it. Into the sink it went. I would rather get a matcha latte at Starbucks than a matcha drink here again. I also got a pâte chaud and immediately noticed blue bits on the bottom after taking a bite. I've only ever seen green mold on bread, but after Googling, I saw that blue mold can grow on baked goods, too. Either way, I spat it out as soon as I noticed. Thankfully, they did give me a refund for it. On a positive note, the Salted Coffee was pretty decent.
