Mochinut Cottle Road is a cute little shop in a busy strip mall. The walls are painted with whimsical murals and there are lots of tables for two. In addition to mochi donuts they sell hot dogs, coffee, and fruity tea. I was in the neighborhood so I stopped in for the first time on a Saturday afternoon. The shop was empty of customers; they must be busy in the mornings. They sell three donuts for $10.50, but they seemed to be out of quite a few flavors, so I ordered two chocolate and one Nutella. They are pre-made and stored in a glass case, unlike other places like Modo Hawaii that make them when you order. The donuts come in a nice box. They are large and dense and chewy, but weren't to my taste as I like them smaller and lighter, but that's just a personal preference. I'm not sure if I will go back, but I hope they do well at the Cottle location. read more

I decided to stop by here since I was waiting for a takeout order next door at China Delight. The inside is decorated with images of their teas and doughnuts on the walls. They have quite a bit of seating. All their mochi doughnuts are displayed in a glass case. Unfortunately they did not have all the flavors available when I was there. I decided on the mango, biscoff, and fruity pebbles doughnuts. I also ordered a coconut pineapple smoothie and a peach green tea. I really liked that you can pick your level of sweetness. The young lady helping me was very kind. I asked her when the best time to come when all the flavors are available. She said in the early morning. The experience here used to be something special. About a year ago, I was a regular, and what kept me coming back was the freshness. The donuts were made to order, and I still remember the two young employees who worked there. They'd happily let you know it might take a few minutes because they wanted you to experience the product the way it was meant to taste. That kind of pride in what you're serving is rare, and it made a real impression. There's something different about that kind of enthusiasm coming from employees versus an owner. An owner has an obvious stake in selling you on something, but when the people making your food are genuinely excited for you to try it, that energy is contagious. You can't help but feed off of it. Fast forward to this year. My daughter loves coming here since we frequently visit the amazing Chinese restaurant next door (China Delight-highly recommend), so I've brought her a few times. Unfortunately, it's been a different experience. The donuts are always pre-made, and the focus seems to be more on cleaning and closing down than on having a fresh product ready for customers. To be fair, the staff is always friendly and I do appreciate a clean shop , but when I'm choosing between a spotless floor and a donut worth eating, I'd rather have the latter. I'll note that I usually come a bit after dinnertime, so maybe timing plays a role. But after a few visits with the same result, it feels more like a shift in priorities than bad luck. I genuinely hope this place finds its way back to what made it great. The bones are there. The location is great, the staff is kind, and clearly there's a customer base that wants to love this place. We've been here twice now and they have a great range of options for corn dog / mozzarella on a stick, Mochi donuts, and tea/boba. I absolutely love the hot cheeto mozzarella corn dog from Mochinut. It has the perfect cheese pull and it is covered in hot cheeto dust. I suggest getting it with the spicy mayo to enhance the experience! Mochi donuts are decent, definitely satisfies mochi donut cravings and has that chewy consistency. It's slightly oily to touch but that's not a big issue for me. The selections available are featured in a display case. I'd recommend coming earlier in the day because I prefer warm and fresh donuts. Flavors do run out quick but no worries, if you ask about a flavor that ran out, they'll let you know that they're making more. Came around 7p we took forever to order, but the staff was very patient with us. The place was empty and clean, nice decor and the tasty snacks were amazing. We had 3 donuts, two strawberry and one cookies and cream. I really liked the strawberry one, the flavor was just right and the texture of the dough is very soft and makes you want more. This location is the closest to home for me so it's easy to just stop by whenever the craving for mochi donuts hits and it suffices. Overall mochi donut is on the bread-ier side. There's a chew to it for sure. They're better with classic flavors, still only on the decent side, but a lil better (chocolate, cookies n cream, etc) than specialty flavors (mango, matcha, etc). Specialty flavors taste very artificial (granted, all flavors are already artificial...so it tastes legit artificial). Coffee, fruity pebbles, mango (tastes more like mango passion fruit), chocolate, cookies and cream, matcha (can barely taste matcha). Overall mochi donut flavors are either on the light side or artificial side. Potato original hotdog. Hotdog is actually pretty flavorful. Usually I'm not a fan of corn dog type of hot dogs, since they're usually either mushy or tastes like they've been straight up boiled. This one is juicy and has a good taste to it with a nice amount of saltiness. Crunch is there, and the outer potato shell wasn't hard to where it would cut the roof of your mouth like I thought it would (only light scratching lol, but honestly not bad). The batter is a light mochi/chewy texture. I enjoyed this way more than I thought I would lol. Can't comment too much on the interior except that it was spacious enough to have seating on either side with benches + small tables. $10 for 3 donuts ($10.94 with tax). Just so you guys know, all mochi donuts are the same base with the only difference between them being the glaze and toppings. **Mango: The best one with a distinctive tangy mango glaze and a few sliced dried mangos on top. 5/5 **Ube: I was surprised because the glaze itself looked like it would have the Ube flavoring I love. All we could taste was just a simple sugar glaze disguised in purple.. Nothing else. Stopped by this place after visiting the Verizon store at the corner. I ordered numbers 1 and 10 since my wife and I didn't want cheese. They were awesome, very fresh and crispy. 3.5 stars Located in Orchard Plaza Shopping Center off Cottle Road. This Mochinut is set up like a boba shop with a bunch of small tables. When I walked in, all I smelled was fry oil..definitely needed some ventilation. I came around 3:45pm on a Sunday and there was only one other group there. A good amount of people kept popping in and out to get some togo though. I came in with the intent of getting some mochi donuts but the selection was sad and minimal. The donuts looked almost plastic looking..like display foods and the glaze on the donuts looked so skimpy. I decided to skip on the mochi donuts and went for a rice hot dog instead. I got.. #2 ORIGINAL HALF & HALF $6.25 -half mozzarella and half hot dog. The box that it came in was super cute. When I opened it, I thought the rice dog looked small and I judged it right away by its size and the plain panko crust. Buttttt once I took a bite, I was surprised at how light and crisp the batter was. It had a little sweetness to it and a bit of chewiness too, which I enjoyed! The mozzarella was nice and gooey and the hot dog was tasty. It came with a small sauce container of sriracha mayo too but I didn't really care for it. 4/5* Ambiance could have been better but the girl who took my order was friendly and even brought my order to me even though she had people waiting to place their order. A group of us met up here for a gathering. Plenty of small tables and seating with cool wall murals. Menu consisted of various covered corn dogs, mochi doughnuts, boba, and non boba drinks. I'm a huge lover of mochi anything, so I ordered a 6 pack box to go. I ate the ube and Nutella. Ube and mochi go hand and hand with me =love. Nutella was ok. The flavored glaze made up the various flavors of mochi doughnuts. Dough was nice and light... not greasy or too chewy. They were made fresh, as we all had to wait for our orders to be made. Finding a non dairy drink was slightly difficult. Two of the drinks I had chosen were not available, but were not marked N/A. In the end, I ended up with a strawberry ade- a combination of strawberry with soda. All drinks were served in a cool sturdy tall cup with a soda pop top..very unique. I've been meaning to stop by here and grab a mochi donut. I must tell you I'm not a huge fan of mochi donuts that are on shelves in front of a huge glass window for hours. They are usually hard, cold, underwhelming, and the flavor is all dried out. Very on theme with the brand. Plenty of tables for groups. The menu has a lot of options for donuts, hot dogs, and boba. I found the glass window with about 7-8 mochi flavors. We asked buying options from the cashier and she told us they sell them by box. We got a 3 pack for $10 and we each got a flavor. Matcha, Nutella, Cookies & Creme. We paid and we were on our way. I got the cookies & Creme mochi donut which was tasty. It had good flavor and the mochi donut texture. It was not hard or had lost its flavor which was a plus. I stole a bite of the Matcha donut and that had a lighter Matcha flavor but still good. Flavor or texture was not compromised which was a plus. I have always wanted to try out their hot dogs because I heard great reviews on how good they were, but kept putting it off. I got the original potato rice hotdog and three mochi donuts. Since this location is new, there was a free donut voucher if u dm them on IG, so I got a free donut! The hotdog was really good, crunchy from the potato and had a mochi consistency when I bit into it. I really want to go back to try the ramen next time. As for donuts, I got raspberry, tiramisu, sesame, and Nutella (for free) . Out of all those flavors, my fav is the raspberry because you can really taste the flavor. I feel like the nutella, tiramisu, and sesame had no flavor. It just tastes dough-y. There was hardly any people when I went at 4pm. I'm not sure if the grand opening date had a lot of people or maybe because i went on a weekday?, but the one in Oakridge always had a lot of people whenever I walk past by. Mochinut! And so close to work! This is very dangerous for me because I love Korean corndogs and bubble tea! I stopped by for its Grand Opening at 9, and there was no line. I was given a boba keychain and a free donut from the event. I ordered the original, hot cheeto, and blue Taki half and half rice hotdogs. Oil was heating up, so it took a while to prepare. I waited 30 minutes waiting for my rice hotdogs. I was gifted a free rice hotdog for the long wait and being their first customer. 2 of the hot cheeto ones were not consistent in size. There were a few condiments you can pick to go with your hotdogs. I just got ketchup and a spicy cheese sauce. The spicy cheese was pretty mild, but I did enjoy it. I didn't get any of the drinks this time. Coffee and Thai Tea were the only drinks available at the time. I would come back to try the drinks another time. My husband, however, ordered their matcha Latte alter in the day. To his disappointment, it wasn't in the can-like receptacle, just a regular take out cup. The drink itself was good. Donuts are sold in increments of 3, 6, 12. I basically got one of each donut that was available at the time (matcha, chocolate, strawberry, cinnamon, sugar). So good that they're fresh hot. More flavors to come later in the day (they said Mango and passionfruit, and that they rotate flavors everyday). So far, regular sugar has been my favorite out of the 5. Husband who stopped by later in the day got a few more flavors. I had them when I had gotten home from work. Still chewy. Much better than some other branches I've tried. The passionfruit is my new favorite. Sweet and a hint of tart! After renovations, this space looks more open and clean! Decoration was cute and simple. Little flower pillows in the booths were a nice touch. The two staff were really sweet, as I watched how they interacted with a mother and her two/three kids that came after me, explaining the flavors and mochi donut texture. Got there around 7:30 on Sunday night. In short, the donuts were very cold and stale. Complained to the staff member and her explanation was it takes 40 mins to start the fryer for fresh donuts so she has to give me the ones pre made on a rack. Never going back. In contrast, I also go to Mochinut place in Roseville but never had this problem. Even left over night, the crust at Roseville location is thin while one here is thick and heavy like banana bread. So, Mochinut happens to be a Los Angeles chain that's known for well, their mochinut along with Korean rice flour dogs and other treats. If you don't know what it is, it's a combination of the mochi and donut, a mochi donut. Not as heavy as the usual donut, but they're still good never the less. I don't get them often, but I'll enjoy them when I do. I was actually curious about the place, since it replaced a boba shop, and this placed opened not even a week ago (on Itou Shizuka-san's/A.J. Pollock's/Makoto's/Sailor Jupiter's birthday). I remember going here back on Friday (to celebrate Mitsuishi Kotono-san's birthday) as I was driving around. (*I recall "Kakuranger" right away.*) The good? Well, at least the cute cashier had greeted me, and she pretty much answered the questions I had. Of course, I had to get a mochinut, and it's good. Of course, there are donuts with Pocky snack sticks. The menu's incomplete (no ice cream yet it seems), but it's interesting. The bad? As much as I want the place to do well, it's so flawed to the point I'm not sure the place can steal visits from my usual sweets spots, which these days are not many. (The irony is that one of those places is near another mochi donut spot.) Sure, it's close to one of my houses, but I'm fine with driving for a half-hour or so to go to my usual spots. Right off the bat, the place just has an "It's there look" for me. Regarding the ambiance, I was hoping the place would be busy on a Friday, but it felt quiet. I suppose it's just the first week. The flaw that drives me bonkers the most is the amount of drinks. Your limited to a set number of boba drinks, with maybe just 1 decaf drink or 2, and you can't change the sweetness. For a place like this, you figure milks and juices are here also, but no, that's not the case. Mochinut does seem to be an interesting addition to the south side of San Jose. While it has a good donut and an interesting menu, it's horrible on one of the most critical parts of a spot like this. I put in a large order of mochinut donuts for my wedding shower last weekend. I got 4 flavors - banana milk, matcha, cookies and cream, and chocolate. Karen was super easy to work with. My aunt bought special sprinkles to go on top of the donuts and Karen said it would be no problem to add them on. I was expecting them to just sprinkle the on top but it looks like the strategically placed each sprinkle on the donuts. They were a HIT. Had the opportunity to try this place on a Wednesday afternoon around 2 pm in between errands. In the middle of the Orchard Shopping Center in south San Jose, mochinut finally occupies a vacant space that was intended to be a boba shop. Their location is ideal as it adds something new to the plaza. Inside is a very colorful, modern snack shop that I hope will attract the south San Jose community. Lots of indoor seating with beautiful murals on both walls. There weren't any other diners when I dined in so service was quick. I ordered a potato half and half and a milk tea. The milk tea was done within 5 minutes and tasted standard, nothing too special. The hot dog took about 10 - 12 minutes and came with a side of their mixed sriracha sauce. They have a sauce station in the back for self service. The texture of the hot dog was sticky with its mochiness, crunchy from the batter, salty from the fries on the outside, and overall tasty yet starchy. My sister is a fan of this place, so if she's happy, then I'm happy with this place :) read more

An underrated gem, the mochi doughnut is perfectly well done, the glazing just melted into my mouth, and all the flavors are distinct. The boba tea is also extremely delicious without the overbearing sweetness, but the highlight has to be the boba. They have the perfect boba with it not being chewy or hard.
