This is a very helpful very capable very friendly and well kept well maintained Schoppe just in the center of beautiful little town on the east side of Phoenix. I rented a bike with helmet. They will deliver, but I ended up riding it all the way to the mountain reserve which is a 6 mile ride to the trailhead and then had fun for two hours and wrote back. Worst experience ever renting bikes. I strongly advise any tourists to McDowel Mountain to avoid McDowell Mountain Cycle. A friend and I rented two bikes. They charged us $95 each bike for a 24 hour period. We had to return the bikes within a few hours because they weren't trail ready. They refused to give a discount and tried to add charges. His rental would derail the chain each time he shifted into a the highest gear (this happened about 15 times in two hours of riding). My rear tire started slowing losing air after about 30 minutes of riding a green trail (Scenic). Within 45 minutes the tire was flat. I had to use both C02 cartridges to get back to the car without trashing their rim. We had to cut our ride short 2 hours. When we returned the bikes and explained what happened, they wanted to charge us for the C02 and had nothing to say about the derailing. Basically screwed us over. DO NOT USE! STAY AWAY! read more

They are really fantastic, honest, great guys! My son took his bicycle in to them today to have the rear derailer reset so the gears would shift correctly. They only charged $25., also wired all of his cables cleanly, and called after just about an hour to say that it was done. The other bike shop said that it would take 6 weeks. Just picked up my bike from MMC. Dropped off the bike yesterday for a tune up and flat repair. I purchased my Trek Emonda ALR a couple of years ago from MMC. I didn't review the shop at the time. The purchase was easy and no hassle. MMC waved the tune up cost as it was the first tune up on the bike. They texted me yesterday the bike was ready and I picked it up today. Bought an EBike online and had horrible problems with my disc brakes. I stopped in on a ride and they were so great. They said they would install the pads at a very reasonable price right then and suggested a different one than I had been using. Lots of great reviews, unfortunately for me it looks like my experience fell through the cracks. I purchased the Bike new from Fountain Hills Bikes, and did my first service with them as well. I just picked the bike up from the first service and they told me the bike was unsafe to ride and that I needed a tube and new wheels and tires. Interesting, this is how you sold me the bike and now you're telling me it is unsafe to ride in this condition. The front desk team went on to say I'm a liar, that I must have done work on the bike. The team went as far as putting notes on the repair record that states the bike is unsafe to ride... Why not just fix the bike properly instead of presenting me with a bike that is unsafe to ride yet telling me to pay 130.00 for the service while also telling me to take the bike in to get fixed... I brought the bike to you to get fixed. All you did was wash it and adjust the breaks. I brought it in to get a flat repaired. I paid full price for the "service" now I get to take it to real repair shop to get the work done right. It's clear why Fountain Hills Bikes looks like it's going out of business, total ineptitude and lack of accountability. read more

The details that other folks have written are all true. This shop and the guys running it are FANTASTIC! I picked up a few rentals for me and some business colleagues and headed for the mountains. I am an avid cyclist and I know what I like when it comes to bikes. When I'm away from home though, I still like to get a ride in and I look for something comparable. Well, MMC did deliver on a great selection. The store itself sells Trek, Niner and Scott to name a few and for my rentals, they had us in Scott Sparks. The bikes had seen some action, considering the hills were just miles away, but I had no doubt that they were well maintained. Rob set up each of the suspensions with care and made sure we were set to go blaze the desert. Being an out of towner, but looking to max out our time on trail, I ran our game plan by the team and they even delivered there. The staff provided great advice on which trails to hit at the park. I had a pretty solid plan, but it really helped that the team took the time to talk and point out tips and insights. I really felt confident to head out on my own with the guidance. Our ride was so great! In the end, this staff and store delivered on so many levels, that I will absolutely be back. If I needed to buy a bike as a local, I would absolutely buy one here! With a BIG warm Hello and a smile from Marty as soon as I walked through the door, I knew I had found the right place before I could even say hello back. And even though they were clearly not purchased here, they showed an immediate, genuine interest in my legacy mountain bikes that had been "moth-balled" here in the garage for some years; and now coming back into service. They immediately put both bikes up on the stand and started checking the gears out and inflating the tires. "I think the rubber is good, and I'm going to see if it holds pressure overnight" (cool, that will save me some $$) "And yes new brake pads are needed, and a low-cost tune up." Turns out the rubber WAS good, so really only minor cost to get these bikes going! Woohoo! Then some nice chats with Marty, then Robert--about a 24-hour endurance race in Tucson with an amazing team of people. I'm sure he could have gone high on tech-talk, but kept it an interesting story by sharing it with me at a weekend warrior level. Really. Nice. Talented folks! You know, I've once previously been to another LBS, and they did good work; but it seemed like it was just another day at work involving me and my old bike. Now MMC is my shop. And when my bikes do finally croak, and I some day do buy something new, I will buy it here and support their business. I eventually brought a total of four bikes into their care with all manners of work, and short story: all wonderfully done with surprisingly happy results, and not at all financially painful. This is a great bike shop. I have been in bike shops all across the country, and this is one of the very best. Doug, the owner, is very hands on (he's been there every time I've stopped by), and he has gathered a team of great, service-oriented staff. They have a large supply of bikes for both purchase and rental. Their repair facilities are clean and well equipped. In addition, they have a wonderful selection of accessories and their prices are very fair, given the quality of what they provide. They are very well located on the road to McDowell Mountain Park, which is one of my very favorite biking sites in the country (over 75 miles to ride) particularly the three, mountain-bike-only competitive tracks. read more

This place is way more than a bike shop - it's a place to hangout, talk shop and be with friends. Make sure to take them up on their espresso (yes they have a machine in-house), or if water or beer are more the ticket you'll be sure to find both in the community cooler. Note if you take a beer bring an extra next time to pass on the love to a fellow cyclist or to thank Jake for keeping you out on the trails and/or the road. Speaking of Jake, he's a brilliant mechanic and has taken great care of my Yeti...Marty is a repository of knowledge and hooked it up on my recent Trek Superfly purchase, including converting to tubeless and throwing in a matching water bottle holder (it's the little things). I love this bike shop. I'm slow. I'm old. I have a cast on my foot. But I have ridden my bike more than 10k miles with the same shoes, same pedals, same fit. I knew I needed new shoes- I knew I needed to be refit to not injure myself- which led me to Jake. BEST thing I ever did was listen to him and let him adjust my ride position. After so long I thought I knew- but this last Saturday I biked 55 miles post fit - easier and faster (and did I say easier?) than I biked 50 miles the week before. The shop is also awesome.
