Generally speaking i'm pretty skeptical when it comes to auto repair shops. I never know if i'm being taken advantage of, so for that reason I tend to go to the dealer. In this particular case I needed some very minor work done and it was just more convenient to go to a local shop. McFadden's was able to get me in right away and the work was done fairly quickly. The head mechanic (possibly the owner) was friendly and took time to explain what was done. I'll still try them again the next time I need work done. Also the process seem to be very fair. read more

I had my shocks and struts replaced a year ago, and my control arm, outer tie rod, and motor mounts replaced two months ago. My suspension was perfect minus the steering wheel being a bit off center. I took it to McFadden Service Center for an alignment expecting the same great experience I saw in all these nice reviews, but I'm starting to think those are family friends or something because the service I received was a different story. I called for a quote and the receptionist was rather helpful. I thought $104 for an alignment was rather pricey, but I decided I'd let it go because you get what you pay for. That was wrong. I took my car in on 12/24/19 for a 10:00AM appointment. I got there on time and was told it would take an hour. I didn't get to leave until 12. Also, I asked for a printout of the before/after so I could see how much the alignment improved my steering, but was told the printer was broken. But either way, my wheels were straight, and I was happy for literally 24 hours before the problems started. The next day, I was driving and the wheel started shaking violently. Being that I was going 60 MPH in highway traffic, this was unsettling to say the least. It lasted for around 15 seconds then stopped. A few minutes later, it happened again, this time I was only going 20 MPH, but the shaking was only slightly less intense. Later that day, I was on the highway again and it resumed, lasting almost the whole ride from DC to Laurel. I parked my car and when I came out to it the next day, the wheel was crooked, like it was about to come off the car. I was able to drive it the few minutes back to the shop, hoping I'd get some help. Comments were made both in the front office and in the garage that implied to me that nobody really took my issue all too seriously. The man who originally worked on my car, Amil, put it back on the lift and said the issue was that I needed a new inner tie rod and strut. He showed me the strut, which looked like it came out of a mount, so I asked him why this wasn't noticed prior to them doing the alignment. He said it was fine before, and that this was a coincidence that the issues happened almost immediately after. I believe in coincidence, but when you work on my wheels, and the suspension is destroyed less than 24 hours later, I'm far more hesitant to write it off so easily. The shop quoted me a price of $383 dollars for just the labor to replace those two parts, which seemed excessive. I found another party willing to do it for 25% of that, which is where I'm taking my car from now on. I asked the owner, James, if he'd be willing to give me another alignment for my troubles, which I wholeheartedly believe his shop caused, and he said "yeah, but I'm going to charge you full price for it." I told him I felt like this was bad business, and he didn't seem to care, which says to me he doesn't care about his customers, just his friends who happen to do business with him. I wasn't asking for free parts, or even labor, because from what i observed, an alignment doesn't require much work on the part of the mechanic other than hooking the car up to the machine, which does most of the work. I'm thankful that I didn't cause an accident, but the fact that this shop failed to notice my strut problem in the first place, blamed it on dumb misfortune, and now refuses even the slightest of concessions, all while having me, a potentially loyal customer, driving an improperly inspected vehicle, creating a hazard to both myself and the millions of families and children I shared the road with in that 24 hours, is the only reason anyone should need to never do business with them again. I'm still hoping James or someone else in charge will do the right thing and provide some form of recourse, but the way I was spoken to earlier tells me that is unlikely. Moreover, I hope you, as a potential customer, take my experience as warning to not do business with McFadden's and save your time and money. read more

They left a screwdriver under my hood that got wedged in the fan and blew out the motor of the fan. Nobody has opened the hood since they worked on the vehicle, and if it had already been there, they should have seen it. Plus, it would have caused issues long ago. Clearly it happened at McFadden's but they take no responsibility for their error. You absolutely could not receive higher quality or more fair-priced (they have a loyalty program, if you ask about it) service anywhere else. I've been taking my cars to McFaddens for 15+ years and absolutely have never been disappointed; James (the owner) even lent me his personal car a couple of times when repairs were going to take longer than I wanted (once, it was a Lexus he had just bought the day before). I now live in Chesapeake, VA for work and when I return back to MD, this is where I take my car. The staff is always friendly and professional, though I do miss James' daughter Alex since she moved onto work for another company after she got married. It's a typical mechanic environment, i.e. no real frills except for FREE fast wi-fi, cable TV and coffee...what more could I ask for when I'm waiting for car to be attended to? When I needed to buy a new car, James recommended what I should purchase and I could not be happier--he seems to know just what each customer should drive as I've heard from other customers he made recommendations to them too when they were ready to purchase. 100% recommend! read more

I have taken my car here in the past and it was fine. However, these folks have proven to be every car owners nightmare. My brother has been a long time customer who spent thousand of dollars last year alone (old honda!) His car overheated and McFadden's told him he just needed a new computer. It took them one month but finally he got it back. the very next day it overheated but this time the engine went nuts. My brother took the car back the next day. They made clear that this must mean a bigger problem and the car was probably dead. Wait - you just charged him $1100 for a part you said would fix the problem and now the engine is shot?! They either completely missed the blown gaskets in the month that they had the car or deliberately charged a long time customer for a part when they knew the engine was blown. Wow. They have refused to refund any part of the $1100. My brother spent many years there, spending considerable money. The work was fine. Until now. So if you are a loyal customer be careful. If they did this to him they will do it to you. I will never bring a car to this nightmare mechanic again. read more

One of the best service centers have four cars that we get Serviced be always feel good I don't have any issues they even have parts for the Ford Explorer 2013 that Academy Ford didn't have in stock! I've been meaning to write this review for a long while now. I've been using McFadden's for a couple years now. It's every man's dream to find an auto repair shop that they can trust and return to over and over again. McFaddens is that shop. James is top notch...I call him my superhero, he lays it all out there for you, he's honest, and he gives you a heads up on repairs that need to be done in the future. There's no padding the bill, you pay for the service they provide, nothing more. They treat me like I have been coming there for 10 years. I have to drive at least 45 minutes each way, but I refuse to try to find a closer place. Both my cars are Luxary Imports and James keeps them on the road. read more

I visited here based on the previous Yelp reviews, and I'm seriously glad I did. I wish I had known about MSC when I first had trouble with my car running hot. I probably would've saved a lot of money, but oh well. The price for all the crap that was wrong with my car was actually substantially lower than my budget, so I'm grateful for that. The receptionist was very friendly. Actually, all the folks who walked in and out from the garage were very friendly. There isn't much I can say about this place except that I'll be back for the next round of work. I dropped my car off in the morning, and it was ready by lunch time (I work about a quarter-mile from it.). Honest folks who don't want to rip you off. I appreciate that. read more
