Definitely love the vibe here. Very small town atmosphere where a lot of the patrons know each other. I was really happy to hear the kitchen has changed hands recently. Pretty good pub food and drinks. The ordering is a little weird - you order at the bar for drinks and order at a second counter for food (doesn't seem to have sit down/waiter service). The food is standard bar food: wings, burgers, sandwiches, onion rings. We got chicken tenders with onion rings and a pulled pork sandwich with fries. Both were decent (albeit a little salty). Found out about McGee's on LivingSocial.com - bought a coupon to check them out...menu has a good variety, easy to order and check out. Nice that they have their own parking lot - drove in, parked, and food was ready! Burgers are very flavorful, loved the amount of juice with the french dip, and upgraded the salad to a large for $1.00 - such a deal! Will definitely go back - maybe even try eating there next time instead of getting it to go :o) read more

SALMONELLA-CONTAMINATED KITCHEN - DO NOT EAT HERE - I was horrified to watch the cook take dripping raw chicken and toss it on the grill, then wiped his hands on a towel used to also wipe the raw foods prep counter/cutting board, also doing the same thing to another towel at the other end of the prep area. Then he wiped his hands on his apron. Then he took bread out of a plastic bread bag and started making a sandwich, touching the ingredients inside the sandwich, etc, etc. Not ONCE did he wash his hands during this process. I kept my eye on him the whole time. When I brought it to his attention, as well as the other kitchen staff, they sort of looked at me and shrugged. Nobody told him to go wash up. I said the towels were contaminated, and they didn't remove/replace them. THEY KEPT WORKING. It is clear they have no clue about appropriate sanitary kitchen methodology. I have reported them to Alameda County Health Department. We enjoyed the food, although we couldn't find a table in the whole place that wasn't really, really noisy on a Sunday night. It's a big place, and it would be nice if they would have one corner without video games or TVs for people who come for the food rather than the sports bar stuff. My husband had a burger which he said was good, but not as good as Scolari's (the gold standard for burgers in Alameda). The roasted brussels sprouts were excellent and they didn't have bacon, which was actually a nice change (I'm normally a bacon fan too). We also had the fried pasilla pepper appetizer, and they were nice - not hot, but fresh-tasting and it was a generous portion. The chili was different but good - it was not soupy at all and I ate it with a fork rather than a spoon. It was topped with cheese and a creamy jalapeno sauce that was good although it could have used more jalapeño. There were lots of things on the menu that sounded good, so I will return to try them out. But I'll pick a weeknight and hope there aren't any games on so I can carry on a conversation with my dining companions. read more

I've been here two separate times. The first was during their famous "Alameda Idol" karaoke contest, where I absolutely butchered the poorly chosen song "Don't Stop Believing". Next time, I'll go with Johnny Cash or something deeper, as my voice cracked more than a 12 year old through puberty and probably shattered several of the mirrors in the place. The crowd (and judges, patrons of the bar) were forgiving, at least. The second time was after a Warriors game, since I was still hungry and refused to pay the obscene food charges at the arena (I already got gashed for a $12 Trumer, no way was I buying a $10 box of popcorn on top). This place is within a 10 minute drive on Park, and is a fairly no frills irish pub. They don't serve food after 9 it seems, so you're stuck with the Thai place next door if you need grub. Bud pints are $4, and there's a bunch of tv's inside for all your sport viewing needs. There's not a lot on this strip (as I've tried to barhop in the past, there is a good German place nearby though), but this place is a decent spot to hit if you need a cold beer and want a friendly at-home vibe to go along with it. read more

This place feels like your eating at a friends house.. Did it help I was there with a friend who is a good family friend of the owner! Sure! But this place still rocks...He's the kind of guy that hangs out at his establishment nightly and knows all the locals! They have a lowfat menu which was especially helpful for my new diet... but I must say it was really hard to avoid the fries and fried zuchini which is one of my favorites.... The garden burger I had was good, as was the glass of merlot. I'm really bummed out that I didn't know about the shuffle board in the back and my friend will be getting hell for that one! We are a mixed couple, have been coming to this place frequently. Everything was fine there till on one Tuesday night the little male bartender verbally assaulted and rudely threw us from the bar like a trash in front of other customers. Apparently the management and the owners support this business policy based on humiliating their patrons because of their skin color. Unpretentious bar regulars and bartenders make this place a regular favorite whenever my hubby and I want a beer or stiff drink and to watch some sports on any of their 5-7 bar tvs. It's not a sports bar vibe per se but you can catch any baseball, basketball, UFC fight, or other while sitting and enjoying a drink. OMG! I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place. Awesome food, cheap and inexpensive. Great atmosphere, and there's always a place to sit (except softball season around 7pm!) I have been going here for over a decade, and almost every Friday my family and I go there for dinner. Their waitresses are nice and attentive, the food is delicious, and the alcohol is a plenty! They are decent sized patties and good ingredients, the fries are thinly sliced potatoes which they fry. This place is great, service is pretty good & quick. I went here for the first time last night to watch the Bengals and Jets Play. The beer selection is quite nice, although a little expensive for Alameda. The food is cheap and typical Bar Food that you order in the back of the bar separately. Since it's a Bar and Grill there seemed to be more kids there than I would like, but also it was kind of nice to see the whole family out having a good time. The parents were chatting it up by the bar while the kids were handing out at a table eating burgers. Probably one of the best places to watch sports in Alameda. I'm sure I'll go back. Went to McGee's for St. Patrick's day but of course it's an Irish bar. They had the standard Corn Beef and Cabbage dinner for sale but come on folks this is not even an Irish meal. Was hoping for some Shepards Pie but not an option. We ordered a sandwich, and it was not the best, dry and flavorless so a big disappointment for our dinner. I had a green beer gotta have one on this day but it was Bud Light, yuck, too bad a better beer could not be used. I then had a Half and Half and it was made well. We left to try a few more places but ended the evening here. The bartenders were busy and not too friendly. I did have a few shots of Musolini, (sp) that were awesome. Met alot of irish wanna bees but of course they make this celebration all the more fun. McGee's is okay for what it is. read more

Just went to this place for the first time this past weekend. The place is very clean. I met up with over 20 people for a mini 30 year high school reunion. It was awesome the bartender and staff were very friendly. It was a great and perfect environment for us all to hang out and reunite after all these years.
