Two staffers were there - a newer staffer was fabulous but the other staffer who was clearly more senior was just downright rude. Other-all the experience was borderline...they were having a bad day. They told us they were running 15 minutes late. They weren't just 15 minutes late, they were late and their cameras weren't working. After everyone was in costume and posed they gave up trying and told us to just use our own cellphones (after scolding us earlier for having our phones at all). Although they didn't charge us for the failed experience - It was still rather disappointing. Had the cameras worked, the rating would have been the same....who you hire matters. Overall, the experience was alright. I liked how the photos turned out which is the main point. I personally didn't care for the "negative comments" about us though. After the photos, the blonde lady gave us instructions to put everything on the bar behind us. We did exactly what she said and then she proceeded to talk to her coworker right infront of us saying "boys don't listen" while she started putting things away. Like we were supposed to put everything back. It was rude. If you're going to make negative comments about your customers, at least wait for us to leave. read more

Went there on Sunday 06/08, wanted a phono for 5 people. The lady there tried to disregard me but when I didn't leave and asked how long it it would be she said 15 to 30 minutes and took my number to call me when they were ready for us, that was around 2. Never got the call, she was rude and seemed unpleasant that we were in the establishment. Their loss, there are other places to take these type of pictures. In as many times that I have visited Old Sac, I would often notice this business, but the idea of making arrangements to have an "Old Time" photo never occurred to me. So, for that reason, I never felt compelled to go inside. Little did I suspect that there is also an interesting and eclectic shop within! My sister and I were spending the day together and wandered into this store just to check it out. To my surprise, they have fun and cute inventory for children and adults alike! From collectibles, souvenirs, to one of a kind gifts. Since my grand niece was having an upcoming birthday party with a "Frozen" theme, I discovered some cute lunch boxes that were designed with "Frozen" characters on the outside. Needless to say, I was finally able to figure out what I was going to get my niece who has just about everything! The owner of the shop was very nice and helpful as we browsed around the shop. My sister suggested that we need to return and bring our elderly dad and the rest of the family here to get some photos taken. I thought that was a great idea! Hopefully, we can make this happen! A fun way to revisit the past. I remember as a teenager getting memorable family photos at McGees and this time three generations from five cities gathered for giggles and fun for another memorable moment. All of the costumes have photos and numbers so you can pick what you want to wear while waiting. They've put ties in the back so one size fits most. Once dressed it's time to accessorize with hats, jewelry, shawls, neck kerchiefs, fans, guns and more. Help on posing is given too. The two ladies who helped us were organizing, friendly and quick! It did feel a little rushed and we weren't sure we'd get a good photo of all nine of with only five photos. We were in and out in less than 45 minutes and yet everyone was happy with one of the photos, although the focus could have been a bit sharper. Pricing is reasonable. Yippee-eye-yaaayyy!!! Didn't think it was possible, but, it was! Thank you, McGee's! How else would you get nine teens together to pose for a photo simultaneously? We came by a little before 5 because the staff was going to be shorthanded after that. Thanks to modern technology, texted everyone and all nine appeared before that time! Such good kids! The teens were given a choice of what costume they wanted along with a number. So easy! We were in and out within a half an hour! Looking at the business pictures you would think that it took longer, but the staff had their game face on and they knew exactly what they were doing! We purchased two different poses of 5x7's and with the amount of people we had, it costed us $87. Not too shabby, considering how often would you get everyone in a western outfit! I've been wanting to check out McGee's Old Time Photos for a while and had a chance to finally visit with my extended family. This photo studio is in Old Sacramento right in the center near Evangeline's. Parking is nonexistent near the studio, so use one of the garages. Our group had seven people with two little kids, two big kids, and three adults. The staff was able to easily get us costumed up at all levels with a wide range of options. The costumes looked great with lots of props for a fun picture. The staff were great helping us pose into a few fun shots. I prefer a more authentic serious pose, but my family loves the smiling one. Prices are on the high side, but you get a very unique souvenir and opportunity to recreate an old west theme. You don't need to rob a stage coach to get a nice photo at McGee's, but you can sure look the part. They even can work with dogs if you ask. Great staff and a fun product make it worth the price. Had this great idea for a Mother's Day present, to surprise my wife with old time photos. I've always seen this place as a kid as I was next door at Evangeline's. I called in about a week before and set up an appointment in time, so we could just walk right in and get our pictures done. When we arrived they were prompted on time and ready to rock and roll! They have about 20 different options for men and women for dress and a tire. You first pick what you want to wear and then you go and try it on. The outfits are more like aprons, they go around the front of you and it makes you look like you're wearing an actual outfit. They had a great size selection and they're out that smell clean and new. Next you pick out the setting and background you want. Then you pick out the props you want. Now it's photo time! They take plenty of photos and plenty of different poses and they work well with kids as well! My son really won the hold the guns. When you're done they pull up all your photos on the computer and you get to pick out the best ones !. I was really impressed with the quality of their work and their prices as well! This was a really fun experience can we will definitely be back. read more

She had the perfect 5x7 frame at home. At the register she learned of the 5x7's but they would not let her exchange it, citing that it cost them too much to scrap the 8x10 and print another copy... (50 cents?) As I was telling my daughter I'm sure they'll fix it, an employee literally ran over, interrupting me in a stern voice saying that my daughter will need to make an additional $20 dollar purchase to get the sheet of 5x7's she wanted and the manager confirmed it. They could have scrapped the other photo charging a reasonable .50 cents for her to get the photo she wanted. We were having such a great time but it made the Father's Day experience we were looking for there a bit tainted. However, we shrugged it off after we left and made it a fabulous day anyway. My rating is based on the service of the owner and the gal that was spring with us. Zero personality, robotic in delivering instruction. No engagement. No suggestions for how we could have fun with our poses. For the cost of the photos they could have made it a more engaging experience. Felt as if it's hurry and pose, give us your money and get out. Also, when scheduling the appt I was told they would validate parking for 1 vehicle. Then while there, the owner said no, we stopped validating because parking got too expensive. I mentioned that I was told they would validate and she said yes, we are no longer doing that. Then she mentioned other places that will validate which is annoying because we were doing business with her establishment, not the other places she was pointing out. This was one of those things we 'had' to do at least once in our lives. My wife first mentioned getting one done a couple of decades ago. Yeah, it was definitely time. McGee's Old Time Photo fits in perfectly with Old Town Sacramento's Old Time vibe. Walking down the cobblestone streets and on the wood-plank walkways in front of any of the stores in the blistering heat, sure gives ya' a hankerin' to wet yer whistle with a cold sarsaparilla at the local saloon. On yer way to quench yer parched throat, why not stop in and have a flash picture taken of you and yer gang? Timeframe: apx 20 minutes total, unless you are waiting in line. Costume selection: super easy, you just look at the picture options and tell the lady your number choice, "I'll wear number 18, thank'y kindly ma'am." Then the nice lady brings out your half-costume (it's open in back so you can just slip it on with ease). If you happen to have a full costume (I believe the ladies have full costumes), there is a curtained, private changing room in back. After everyone in your party is dressed, you get arranged in front of a fun Old Time backdrop & then you take some pictures. They allow you to pose several different ways. Next, you take your costumes off and choose your photos. It only takes a few seconds to print. Then they offer you either mounting (a pre-printed paper frame like the "Wanted" one around my photo), and/or handmade framing. The mounting is $5.00 extra, while the handmade frames are much more expensive. Upsell, upsell, upsell. The downside? This would have been an original and unique experience back when my wife first suggested we do it over twenty years ago. That was before digital cameras were the norm, as well as photoshop and other editing software. It was still fun, but waaaaaay too expensive. That's the only reason I took one star away. read more

We had a great time picking out our outfits however the photos they have to choose from for women are way up high, a bit difficult to see. Our photographer Abbey was fun and tried several poses for us. I love Halloween, so this was the closest thing I can get to it during this time of year.
