Located on the Mission Reach portion of the SA River, it's a nice park with lots of stuff to do!…read more There are two baseball fields with small bleacher seating, a huge pool, a full court covered basketball court, outdoor workout equipment, a small playground, LOTS of open space for football, running around in circles, rolling around in the grass, standing on your head, or what have you. :) Concrete picnic tables and BBQ grills - but not very many. There are two parking lots - one on each side of the pool. It's located about half a mile from Confluence Park and the Mission Reach connects the two. From the park, it's a half a mile walk to the actual Mission Concepcion. While you are here, find your way to the edge of the park near the SA River and find the "Mission Portal" (it's a round, stone tower as seen in the photos). From the top of the portal, you can see the top of Mission Concepcion if you look carefully. Steps on one side and an ADA ramp on the other side. You can also head out further toward Mission San Jose - just a few more miles down the Mission Reach trail. One last thing to check out while you are here. This site is where the first major skirmish of the Texas Revolution took place. The first Texan to die during the revolution died here, and he was the only one to die in this battle. There's a monument near the pool house on the Theo Avenue side and it explains more about the Texan who died and the Battle of Concepcion.

It features hundreds of trees and a scenic stream winding through the grounds, along with plenty of wildlife like ducks, geese, and vultures near the Joske Pavilion. There is tons of open space to lay out a blanket for a picnic, plus walking/running trails, baseball fields, a couple of playgrounds, plenty of tables and benches, and great paths for biking. It's wonderfully quiet in the mornings, making it the perfect in-town getaway.

After a short time of starting and stopping and finding the maps vandalized so I couldn't figure out where on the map we were, we gave up and walked down the street to Mila for coffee. I love that they have maps set up throughout, but every single one I stopped at had the "you are here" section scratched out. Not being from San Antonio, I couldn't orient myself. So that was a little problem. Otherwise, the area a lot of picnic areas set up for grilling and eating with plenty of space for play. You just might have to Hansel and Gretel your way out though.

They offer Tai Chi classes on the weekend. There's also a playground for the kids. Nothing spectacular. Unfortunately, there's not many trees around here. The best ones have a picnic table under them. This seems like it belongs to the church, since there's not just one church, but two of them adjoining this park. So keep it clean!

A friend recommended Labor Park and mentioned it was only a couple blocks away from Hemisfair. The park itself is very nice and you can tell the city has taken good care of it. I really like that they have a covered playground which is a major plus during hot summer days (playgrounds can get HOT y'all). They also have a nice baseball field for the little ones, a basketball court, and some gym equipment which kids love to play with. On our time there, we saw a couple other families playing around and enjoying the nice weather. Overall it is a nice neighborhood park!

Southtown outdoors gym! The Labor Street Park has been…read morerenovated and reopened! It's been transformed into an outdoor exercise area! It used to be an empty, decrepit lot in Southtown, but now has trees, a backstop and baseball diamond, outdoor gym equipment, and trees to hang out under. This park used to be a crumbling area, but a local kickball team took up as their cause to clean it up, patch the potholes, and get the park up and running. It used to be owned with the San Antonio Housing Authority, but it was only recently granted to the city. The local kickball team got sponsored by the city, and Coca-Cola, who funded the renovation of the park, and sponsors ongoing exercise classes with the San Antonio Parks and Recreation Department, so check their website for schedules. I heard that they're hiring lots of veterans to teach exercise boot camps to civilians at no cost. They've got lots of gym equipment out here to enjoy, so you can get your pump on for free. The picnic area is a nice place to get a post-workout snack. Parking is easy- all on the streets, but the area isn't controlled by downtown events parking, so you can generally always find a spot in here for downtown parking, but it's a bit of a hike. Overall, it's a pretty good park that's been redone, giving other options for parks in the southtown area! I'd recommend checking it out. It's a wonderful example of how a local grassroots movement took charge to do something positive for San Antonio!

Hiking trails, rental pavilion, plenty picnic tables, 4 playgrounds, plenty of parking space, small river, hotel/motels nearby. Always clean and workers are almost always around in sight. On the downside park closes a bit too early and tends to get spooky and lonely at night if your alone with kiddos so be careful.

The park is never super busy and is always kept very clean. If you forgot to bring your doggie bags, don't worry! They have plenty of doggie bags stations all across the park. The city keeps Mahncke Park pretty clean and I've seen them plant new flowers and trees every now and then. During the spring you can appreciate the Texas bluebonnets all across the park. For the runners out there, this park is conveniently connected to the San Antonio Botanical Gardens and Brackenridge Park, which gives you the option to add a few miles to your run.
