Overall, everyone was helpful. Ryan was my sales rep, he was quick to spot me and support my goals. He didn't try to push me to different models and was easy to work with. I knew what I wanted going into it which made it easier and I had a hard budget. Being an out-of-stater, they also helped me with the transfer paperwork and knowledge associated. She went in with genuine interest in purchasing a vehicle, but was instead met with blatant disrespect and inappropriate behavior. Donald was not only condescending and dismissive in a way that was completely uncalled for and unacceptable in any setting, let alone a professional dealership. No one should have to feel uncomfortable or unsafe while shopping for a car, and it's infuriating that someone like this is representing the Subaru brand. My experience was pretty good overall. Their pricing on the model in question was the best in the area without a doubt. The salesperson was friendly and didn't try to haggle with us. No trying to push any crazy financing or useless add-ons. Gave us the rundown, let us drive the car, and helped make the process easy. Scheduling services has been easy as well. The 10 year/100k McGovern powertrain warranty that came with the car was also a nice touch, though I'm hoping I won't need it! Docking one star because the finance manager was VERY pushy about add-ons and bit deceptive about maintenance costs (flat-out lied about the cost of a service, saying it was several thousand more than it actually was) and tried to upsell us by a few thousand dollars. Would've been a five star experience if we didn't have to deal with him. I also had a prior experience a couple of years ago when buying a CPO model where they did try to push some crazy financing on us, though we ended up buying a completely different car from a different dealer. read more

Bought a used car, was told to wait for a few minutes. Waited an hour to go into a room where we got the upsell for 20 minutes - extended this, protection that. Declined. Approx. 5 months later, when the Subaru screen user interface was driving me crazy, I asked if I could trade it in for a different model. I was looking for a Forester Hybrid and their inventory stock showed one I was interested in. Before driving 26 miles to the dealership I used the chat function and called the store. In both interactions I was told the car was there, so I made an appointment. When I arrived I was told that the car was in transit and actually going to another dealer. I believe this was an intentional tactic to get me to the store. They then said they located another car meeting my specs and they could have it in a couple of days only to tell me a few minutes later that that car was now sold. When it came time to provide me with a proposal the trade-in amount on my car was an insult and the new car price was uncompetitive by $3000. They knew I was not happy when I left. Since then they have been sending messages every couple of days to come back in without any incentive to do so. Very bad experience - stay away! I recommend you avoid McGovern Subaru. After my last oil change, the bolt wasn't properly tightened, which caused an oil leak. The bolt was so loose that we were incredibly lucky to have caught it before there was engine damage. When I reached out to the service team, they didn't take accountability and refused to remedy the situation. Trusting a service department with your vehicle is essential, and unfortunately, I can't recommend this dealership based on the lack of quality and customer service. I've visited this dealership since at least 2012 when I bought my car there and generally had good experiences. However that has changed. I don't know if they are just completely incompetent when it comes to issues with old cars, or if they are predatory and deliberately take advantage of loyal customers that don't know much about cars. My car has been burning oil, as the particular model is known to do. They "fixed it" and in less than a month the oil light was back on. Their first response - with the age of the engine there is nothing they could do and I should bring it in more frequently for oil changes. They did eventually end up admitting that they should have looked into it more carefully to begin with. Would have been nice for them to tell me that before the thousands of dollars I spent in a pointless repair that didn't fix anything. They won't give me a refund. They did offer to replace the engine with a used one, but that's not a long term solution. They also offered a "really great deal" on a new or used car. That amazing first offer was a $1000 trade-in - significantly less than the repair! They eventually offered a slightly more reasonable discount, but not enough of one for me to give them any more business after they screwed me over. They certainly taught me a very expensive lesson - don't trust this dealership to be honest and always get a second opinion on expensive repairs when the car is older. Beyond bad customer service! Something over a year ago, we bought a top-of-the-line Subaru Forester from Village Subaru in Acton, MA. Included was a very nice stereo system. Except it never worked. Ever. Half the speakers do not function. We have been trying for over a year now to get it fixed. My husband has made numerous trips to Village Subaru when they promised they had the parts to fix it in stock... ...And each and every time, they have not in fact had the parts, so he took time off work and drove there for nothing. They have never offered to reimburse us for the time and money spent; they just say "oops" and promise that NEXT TIME they'll have the appropriate replacement parts. This has, as I said, been going on for over a year- including the MANY times they've sworn that they've ordered the parts and said parts will arrive in 2 weeks... and never do. This is in addition to the various trips after being assured that they had the parts- but did not. My husband and I are over 60 years old, and this is some of the WORST customer service we have ever experienced in our lives! The completely unnecessary trips to get an "oops" are just the icing on the revolting cake. I will add that they are prompt to bill us for anything else we get done, even while they defy our warranty and cause us extra time, gas, and aggravation trying to get a simple repair for something that they sold BROKEN. We had an appointment today, and they assured us the parts were in stock, and my husband drove there- taking time off work- and YET AGAIN they had ordered the wrong parts- and, while apologetic- yet again- did not offer to compensate him for the time and gas wasted because they ordered the wrong part(s) yet again. This is the easiest car buying experience I have had in the almost 3 decades owning cars. Our lease was up and we needed to get a new car. We went to a few dealers and it was miserable. The stock was low and the sales associates were dismissive. We then found McGovern Subaru and from the moment we walked in we were taken care of. Maximus was very informative and gave us the financial breakdown immediately. He helped us design our package and we took a few test drives. The experience was seamless and we ended up buying a car that day. I've never had a quicker, more transparent buying process. These are the kind of dealerships that make me RUN to Herb Chambers. It's our son's FIRST car and hoping to purchase with his OWN money. He has done his homework, discussed with dad AND stepdad. Reassuring mom that Subaru IS ranked the HIGHEST best first car, snow and sleet in New England. Both his step brothers own Subaru's. But mom, who has never driven a Subaru... didn't know what to expect. So now that we are ready to embark in the world of the youngest man in the house. Not that we are looking for a new car but we are looking... Walk into the tight location, 40 minutes from closing on a Saturday. NO ONE MOVED. Barely lift their brows. Stuck up lady on the left, distrustful looking goon to the right, sigh, the sales rep that comes up to us. Seriously. You would THINK that we were not into selling when they just wanted to go home. And so was the experience. With a big blow off and uneventful. Particularly when our son told them what his budget was. Why can't Herb Chambers own a Subaru franchise? SIGH! Off to Natick and other places and search for the right car, and the right price for the first time. And hopefully our last time at this dealer... I own a Subaru Outback. Have bought cars at Village Subaru (now McGovern) in the past. Typically I bring my car into the dealership for standard oil changes and some minor repairs. The service tech told me I needed my muffler/exhaust replaced and without this work done I would not be able to pass inspection. Quoted me $750+. Took it took my mechanic for a second opinion. My mechanic said there was no problems with the muffler/exhaust system. He brought my car in for inspection and it passed no problem. $750+ saved with a second opinion. The people are super nice in Service but like all businesses (can't fault them) they're out to make money. I would recommend getting a second opinion to save you money. read more

Trying to get the word out there for other people to realize what a terrible dealership this is, as people should be warned. McGovern Subaru of Acton is an absolutely terrible dealership with terrible leadership, even though my car buying experience was GOOD. The post purchase (ongoing) issues prove that they are run by a bunch of bullies who only care about selling cares and don't care about their customers as people, whatsoever. In November of 2023, I purchased a car with a trade from McGovern in Acton to completion. I originally wasn't going to mention the salesman name, as the issue really doesn't reside with himself, but it was noted from another review that they had terrible issues with him, so this speaks volumes. Post purchase, I pulled my credit and noticed it was pulled 3 times but 3 different creditors, which I assumed was from my car purchase. Now, this 3-months after the fact so it should've fallen off to create 1 solid inquiry, but it didn't, so it was concerning. I reached out to the general manager Troy Ward and cc'd a couple other members of the dealership leadership team. I had to email a second time in order to get any response and was told my Troy Ward that he had a death in the family, that is the reason for his delayed response. Granted, someone else that I messaged could've responded, but this speaks volumes about them caring about customers post purchase. After Troy Ward explained what he would do, he also never really made it seem like a big deal, and sent me a snip-it to CNBC where it explains how hard inquiries are dealt with and how it effects your credit. It's not his credit, it's mine and I was simply asking if something could be done, but his lake of empathy towards the situation, lengthy period of time to respond and lack of promised follow through, it shows he was never planning on assisting me. He stated he would write a letter to the creditors that were not extending credit to me and explain that it was erroneous so it would be removed, but there was "nothing else he could do." His tone along with his lack of effort or even care about the situation was absolutely ridiculous and apparently he didn't like my response, so he decided to take those as a threat. The next email I received was from McGovern Auto Groups legal counsel, John Doran, who was equally as pleasant and helpful. The end result was that nothing was solved and they claimed they "made every effort" to assist me but "I wasn't satisfied with "anything they offered." The real result is, Troy Ward and his dealership really couldn't have cared less for me, wait they actually did care less and proved it. If they valued me as a customer, when I made the inquiry, SOMEONE would've responded to me and instead I had to wait a lengthy period of time and get excuses, lied to, belittled and bulled. Troy Ward lied about the entire situation, when I have full email proof and because he couldn't handle the situation and couldn't deal with me calling him out on his bold faced lies, he passed me on to someone else to shut me up. John Doran tried to make it seem like he was going to assist me as well, while all he was doing was stonewalling me making it worse. Troy Ward claims I threatened legal action, which was why he proceeded down the lawyer route. I told him I would escalate this further, it had NOTHING TO DO WITH A LAWYER. Troy Ward is an incompetent leader who is a bully, has terrible customer service and when he can't handle a situation, he resorts to deflection. Everyone should heed warning when looking for a car or even a car dealership to get service or parts from because no one wants to reach out to them get treated like this. I would NOT recommend this dealer to anyone and would tell you stay far, far AWAY! read more

Absolutely terrible experience! Very unprofessional and extremely rude! My husband and I sat with Donald Gray and gave him our budget for a used vehicle. He laughed and when my husband left to use the restroom, he asked me again what the budget was. I proceeded to tell him the exact same number as we just explained, and he said, "oh I thought that was a joke, we don't have cars in your budget here". While I shouldn't have explained myself at all and stooped to his level, out of embarrassment I felt the need to explain that this was a third vehicle for my household. I bought the car (a 2021 Outback) when it was Village Subaru and I really liked the place. As McGovern, not so much. I have to say that the staff is very nice and very helpful for the most part. However, the prices are very, very high and I suspect management has told staff to squeeze as much out of the customer as humanly possible. I was told I needed to get over $2,000 worth of work for my car to pass inspection, including a plastic part of a side mirror that you just snap on and the part was very expensive, too. Well, I went to another place and they passed my car (gee, I guess I didn't the expensive piece of plastic after all?) but they recommended that I get my tires changed soon. This allowed me to shop around for tire prices which were much lower at other places. I won't go there again. read more

Buyer beware! Stay far far far away from this dealership! Especially Max in sales and John Marino the gm. To quote a previous review posted on google 3 months ago "One of the most horrifically incompetent,negligent, downright vile dealerships I have ever had the misfortune of experiencing." I had previously written a 5 star review for them when they were owned by Village but oh my has McGovern ruined a great town dealership. My mother ordered and put a deposit down on a car from Max in March which she was told would arrive in May, then June, then July. In July she decided max wasn't working out as he was not being upfront with her and went to the manager we previously worked with before. He informed her there was no car ordered for her that he would do his best to get her one. Finally he got her something close to what she wanted and said he would honor the price from March. Her car was due in last Friday so she called and left him a message. She got a call back from Max in sales and was told that manager had left the company prior in the week and that they only had the higher model for her and would not honor the price she was given in March. The price of the monthly lease almost doubled! When I myself called the other manager I was told "that's in correct, that's not accurate." After calling several dealerships she was able to secure a car for $200 less per month, with a lesser down payment. I thought we as a population had out grown the bait and switch game and sexist car salesmen, well McGovern surely has not. Horrible way to treat veteran customers or customers in general. You've been warned. There are other reviews similar to this, make sure to read them, read all social media platform reviews. Contradictory to what McgGovern is telling people about inventory issues there are other Subaru dealerships with decent inventory and decent morals. I know I called 6 of them today. read more

I want to share what an excellent experience I had here at Village Subaru in Acton. I don't live near Acton but I went out of my way to come here because my sister and brother-in-law had had an excellent experience here, and also go there ongoingly for servicing their cars and they have been very happy and well taken care of. I especially appreciated the following: Being treated with respect Not being rushed in the process-- very key when you're making a big purchase Being treated with kindness, warmth and even some humor:) The sales and leasing team members I worked with were excellent especially Anthony. The office environment was professional and warm, they are organized and think of little details such as having water and snacks for customers-- this demonstrated to me that they care about their customer experience. They really take the time to answer all your questions and get back to you in a timely manner. Additionally, they lent me a loaner car while I was waiting for my car. (I can't guarantee that for everyone I imagine that is on and as available basis). I visited another Subaru dealership in Natick prior to going to Village Subaru, The Natick dealership was unorganized, no one greeted me, I was treated with sexism, disrespect (the salesman texted the whole time we were on a test drive (!) and rushed me through the whole test drive p After that my experience in Natick, you can imagine what a breath of fresh air it was to go to Village Subaru in Acton. I was a long time Honda person, and had recently went to a Toyota RAV4 Prime plug in hybrid, to a Toyota Venza that I only had a month due to realizing it sat up too high in the back for my 2 dogs. Braille took the time with tape measure and helped me decide between the 23 Outback and 23 Outback wilderness. Wilderness sat up higher than the regular Outback. The car I got is second from the top trim level and I am in absolute love with this car! We have been going to Village subaru for over 20 years and have always been happy. HOWEVER, since being purchased by McGovern, it is a very different place. The service department on several occasions either misdiagnosed or overrepresented repairs needed. One car broke down within 24 hours of a 1000$ repair. When we explored purchasing a new car, we had to wait 6 weeks for the vehicle. There was a change in the deal that we were not happy with. The sales manager's stance was that they didn't really need our business. Take it or leave it. We will be taking our cars elsewhere now. read more

I am glad I did not buy my car here. This is not a review of their sales dept but rather the service dept. I bought an ascent recently (from another dealer) and the car had trouble starting. It just doesn't start the engine for 10 mins. And then it starts all of a sudden. Now I call that kind of an emergency because the car is not starting. I walk in to the service center and thy tell me to come back after a week. I told him that my car may not start again and he puts his hands up in the air and says he can't do anything about it as he has 100 cars there. Let me tell you what you can do. "Prioritize" . Sales rep wasn't there. Rep who attempted to fill in, was polite, but had zero context of emails and asked me to start over. The car I made an appointment to test drive wasn't available either. I left and got a form email from the original rep (who wasn't even there!) thanking me for meeting with her. My 16 year old daughter's car broke down on a Friday night. We had it towed to the nearest dealership, Acton Subaru, since we had just purchased the car (from a different dealer). I drove in Saturday to confirm that someone in the SERVICE Dept. knew the car was there and that they had the keys. I was met by a standoffish, cold man who said "yeah, but we aren't getting to it until at least Monday." That is not why I was there, but anyway... Forward to Tuesday. Car was fixed, so I checked website quickly to see how late they were open. At 6.02 pm I pulled in seeing the same service rep closing the door. I had mistakenly read the closing time as 7pm not 6. I did not ask him to let me in, but he just opened the door and walked in. So my daughter and I followed. He was cold and rude and made it a point to re-establish the closing time. My 16 year old daughter saw firsthand what manners should not look like if you choose the service industry. I was given my keys without a thank you for your business or any goodbye. The last two years dealing with this dealership has brought me back to Yelp. How & where do I begin? I might give them two or three stars if this review was just for the sales department, but you can't buy a new or late model car without some interaction with the service department. But lets start with the sales department first. So living in the middle of the snow belt, when it was time for a new car I traded my beloved Cadillac in for something a bit better in the snow and not quite as old. Spotting a nice looking, late model Outback on the lot my adventure began. First question after how much was has this car been serviced & is it ready to go. Answer was of course. I drove the car, liked it, thought I'll check under the hood once more, tell them I want a fresh oil change and lets talk numbers. One closer look under the hood & I notice the air filter was completely plugged up, like something was making a home in there. So I guess the salesperson actually had no idea if this car had seen the inside of their shop. So after I agreed to pay pretty much full price and taking less than I felt my car was worth I signed on the line with a promise the car would be 100% Checked inside & out, & have a full tank of gas. When I picked up the car they told me you're one lucky guy, this car was due for its maintenance. (mind you this car was purchased there new, was a one owner & always service there.) They tell me they needed to change the timing belt, all the drive belts a new battery & I saved about $1500.00. So had they checked these items, they likely would have sold the car for more than I paid. Ok, so what's the problem?, well the AC only worked when it was cool out or at night, there was banging in the rear end and every time I hit the gas the car would hesitate, a half dozen trips back & they finally installed a used AC compressor, new rear shocks and an intake off another car. Two years later & the car still hesitates every time I hit the gas, I had to replace both front axles and countless other items that should have been checked before they sold the car. Then after I took I upon my self to tune the car up, I thought the power steering pump had gone, back to Village Subaru & they tell me it will be $700.00 to replace. After I got a price for half that from another garage I told them no thanks, picked up the car & what do you know, the pump is fine, seems that when I moved the power steering line it must have got air in it. I had emailed a few months back inquiring about getting out of my lease, but ultimately decided to hold off. I was debating whether or not to get out of it early or purchase anther car, and have 2 cars in my household for a few months. This was the single worst experience I have ever had. All I was looking for was a quick quote that other dealers were able to quickly provide. I never got my price and do not recommend working with this dealership. DAVID MACK sent me nasty emails back and forth and not only refused to give me a quote online, but acted as if he was "doing me a favor" by providing me with a quote and insisting i come into the dealership. He even lied stating that i had made 2 appointments with him a few months back and never showed up.. WHAt? Impossible! I actually did a review on dealerrater.com, in hopes that no one else gave them the time of day. Villiage Subaru pays them a fee to be a preferred vendor. What does that mean? Well, dealerrater and the dealer try to make you remove your review by offering you a free oil change and asking you to remove any email correspondance because it is not technically a "review". They ended up REMOVING my bad feedback about the dealer- which is no wonder they have such high scores. Anyway, beware of dealerrater.com but this isnt about dealerrater. But so grateful that Yelp is around to provide true feedback of businesses.
