    Sep 7 2019 Saturday evening

Take your date, take your family, take your date and start a family... the drive-in experience is fun! You don't need to go out to dinner first. The snack shack sells high quality hot food; remarkably good fries, wet beef on a dry bun, and crunchy hot popcorn. Full menu is on their web site. Why do fountain Cokes taste better at these places? I was full, but next time I'll get a hot pretzel with cheese dip, a hot dog with everything but ketchup, and cheese fries, and am I a dog or what? Oh yeah--you can bring your dog to the drive-in. Security patrol didn't kick them out. It's a temporary community of good, happy people. You can and should bring lawn chairs. And blankets. I brought a rolled up towel to use as a pillow in the car. It's like a giant combined living room. The 49er Drive-In offers a blissful evening of Americana. Time your bathroom trips to avoid long lines. Go during the movie ladies. See my pics for evidence. I'd consider a portable urinal if I had a SUV. The drive-in sound is via radio. They played that old "Beep Beep" song by The Playmates and the audience participated with their car horns. Charming. The 49er is about an hour east of Chicago on the Skyway. Tolls were 8 bucks. My friend had that automatic toll thing in his window. The late Cascade Drive-In in West Chicago was a longer and less pleasant drive. RIP. Hawthornes bar & grill is still a nice place in West Chicago but I'd never make the drive without the Cascade. I was crushed by news of the Cascade's final season in 2018, so I'm glad I found the 49er and will continue to preach the drive-in gospel. Life in the USA can be pretty good. Once per summer is not enough!

So just a follow up.......DAMN THE BEST DRIVE IN I HAVE BEEN TO. Italian beef rocked, their homemade pizza was very decent and better than the frozen kind usually found at such places. The bathrooms were clean even though it was a huge crowd. Now, let me tell you folks, avengers was the biggest opening movie in history and armed with that knowledge I made sure I showed up by 6:00 pm. Guess what? Cars already lined up on the streets. Snagged a PRIMO spot anyways smack in the center and right in front of the concession stand so nobody behind me and I could put the back of the car up. Great time fun and fun!!!

    Intermission classic.

Love this place, and just an hour from the south side. Classic drive in experience, $8 a head to get in. Sound is fine from the car radio. Load up the cooler, caravan with a group, park in the back, bust out the lawn chairs and have a great time. We recommend the fried green beans and the classic "pork fritter" sandwich from the snack bar. Don't miss the retro intermission entertainment! Double feature movies will have you staying late, but that's fine by me. More fun at the movies!

The 49'er is a staple in the region. It is one of those places in which you can enjoy at any age. Parents take their kids and their friends to enjoy an experience. Dates take their significant others to have a memorable night! Cue the hand holding and the yawn-sneaking of the arm around your date. Also, groups of friends take a blanket to just enjoy a warm night and to socialize around a movie. It is a huge mix of every age and groups. It seems like all of the best places are cash only. This is one of them. I believe they have an ATM, but planing ahead is a must! The prices are not too bad especially when you think about how they stay open and buy the movies. I would be very sadden to see them go out of business. Check times online to see when you can enter the area. Getting a good spot is a must! There's also plenty of lawn space to play frisbee or any other game before the movies. You can see the prices of food online. Enjoy!

Amazing place, so much nostalgia, and now I'm just taking up space to match the eighty five characters needed to post a review.

This gravel field is at the end of this industrial street with a large building in front of the screen that has lights on. The are low budget scones indicating where to park. First two rows are reserved and last had a private party. The color contrast is so dull and just sad. The movie started late due to technical difficulties and half into the movie, the audio stopped and after 10 minutes, they just skipped to another scene. Im absolutely speechless that they would charge over $40 for this very low quality movie expierance. I will most definitely not be going back.

If you are getting a popcorn to share, then just do yourself a favor and get two. There were no technical difficulties during our visit. The staff were nice, and out of the way for the most part. We had a great view of the screen from where we were parked. I miss drive ins, and I would come back to this one without a doubt.

I have to drive 30 minutes from out of town to get there but the prices are always made the movie going experience more enjoyable as I felt like I didn't have to break the bank, but recently I mistakenly bought tickets for the wrong day online, and I only found out when people were sitting in what I thought were my seats. When I showed the employee my QR code, it still allowed the tickets to be printed out from the day before, so I bought concessions for the whole family and when I was confused about our seats being taken, they explained I bought tickets on the wrong day, and that there was nothing they could do for me. I reached out to their office and was never reached out to. I understand that I made an error in not paying closer attention to the date i selected, but it left a bad taste in my mouth that I wasn't even allowed to get credits for a future showing. They knew I hadn't seen the movie already, because they were able to be printed when I showed up. I've been a loyal customer and tell a lot of my friends about Wonderland, but I kind of ended up feeling hung out to dry. It was a little humiliating to be standing there holding popcorn, drinks, and candy just to tell my kids we had to go home.

The backdrop of Chicago was an incredible scene. Rooftop Cinema Food and drinks were expected the highlight prices. You also receive perks as you buy and spend with redeemable points. The Staff was remarkably generous and very well mannered. They inform me about the inside seating along with the food and cocktail menus. We ordered pizza, hotdogs, soda, popcorn and candies. I also had to do a little indulgence with the cocktail menu with the drink called Frozé. Loved it! It's always a pleasure when you can still adult while tending to the kiddos activities. Haha! This movie is one of my go to movies and the whole concept blew me away the first time I saw it and I still love the concept. The Rooftop Cinema Club Fulton Market is located The Emily Hotel, on the rooftop (hence the name...HAHAHAHAHA!) The layout is quite nice. You enter on the 6th floor but to access the cinema requires you to go outside and down a flight of stairs. There is a bar to the left as you enter that serves cocktails, bubbles (yay!) and some food (pizza, chicken tenders, walking tacos, etc.) and to the right you can pick up your headphones and tickets for popcorn (if you purchased a ticket that includes popcorn). Seating consists of Adirondack chairs and loveseats. I purchased a loveseat, which ended up costing me about $75 in total (price of ticket, fees) but I wanted to spread out and have space to put my feet up and have a table next to me for my food and drinks. Seating is first come, first serve, which I am cool with. I love that they had astroturf on he ground, it felt nice taking my shoes off and feeling it on my feet. When checking in, you get this nice set of headphones to listen to the movie through. I was wondering how that was going to work with the street noises downstair. The person handing out the headphones made it a point to let me know that the headphones were ready to and had been sanitized. The Adirondack loveseat was comfortable and I was able to spread out and enjoy the movie in style. I took a bed seating pillow with me as didn't know what to expect in terms of comfort. While I was glad I took it, it wasn't really needed as the cushions in the chair were just fine. But it did come in handy as a pillow so I could walk the movie in a reclining position. This can be an expensive movie if you are like me, requiring some space, comfort, good eats and bubble. As I mentioned, the ticket for the loveseat was about $75, plus an additional $100 for bubbles and food, but I am worth it. That said, while I loved the experience, I am not a fan of the programming to date. There are offerings that I am sure most people love to see, I am not a fan of them. But the minute they have a movie I want to see, like Inception, Alien/Predator/Resident Evil franchise, to name a few, I will be back to the Rooftop.
