It was a busy night but the service was mediocre as was the food. I really hate saying this because our past experiences have been mostly good. I ordered shrimp scampi pasta. It was an epic fail-no flavor at all. Peel and eat shrimp would have been better. The watery sauce was like dishwater. I asked for melted butter and they were glad to accommodate. My daughter ordered blackened fish which came out broiled. They returned it to the kitchen for seasoning but it still didn't have much flavor. This has been one of our go-to restaurants for years. First time trying McKennas Place. I heard through the grapevine they had the best Ruben/Corned beef on rye sandwiches so I knew what I wanted. But once I got there, they had something even better! Ruben/Corned Beef Bites on a homemade Irish potato cake! It was so delicious and served piping hot. Lots of corned beef/ruben. I was there as part of a large group of women, and the service was attentive and she anticipated our needs by bringing out drink refills without having to ask. Been going here 20 years. Noticed waining cleanliness. Last night had my favorite "Crispy Fish" Fish was over cooked and breading was dark, burnt looking instead of golden brown. Most importantly, fish tasted "bad", "spoiled". I didn't eat 3/4 of the fish. I came for the lobster rolls! That's how good they are! Food was all 5 stars for sure. When researching places in New Smyrna to meet up with a friend, this place seemed to have a nice variety of food, but the pics of the lobster rolls sealed the deal. For drinks, I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea which was tasty and small for the $11 charge (this was the basic one). They also had BOGO Cuervo Margaritas but Cuervo is bottom of the barrel swill, so I skipped (It's also the reason most people don't like tequila). I switch to the happy hour PBR and that was a much better value, as PBR tends to be. The buttery warm lobster rolls were delicious AF. One with a side was like $24, but 2 with a side was only 10 bucks more, so it was a no brainer. They also had a Soup of the Day that was Chicken Chipotle and it was good. My friend had some Gluten Free items and all were delicious. I got to try the Hot Garlic wings and they were big, crispy and flavorful. He also enjoyed the chicken and ribs combo, although the prices were way off from the Gluten Free menu from which he ordered. Service was excellent with a new waitress who was more than willing to get answers to our questions (i.e. do they still have the buttery lobster roll). She stopped by numerous times to make sure we had everything we needed. The menu situation is kind of a mess with a mix of paper menus and laminated menus that seem to be printed before covid. Some prices are WAY off, so make sure you pay attention to the paper menu (which should be accurate). Same with the drinks... the "better" Long Island Iced Tea was on the $9 menu, but my "normal" one was $11. WTF? Stuff like that is the difference between 3 stars and 5 stars. If they can get their act together and print accurate menus, it would be 5 stars all the way. I hate to drop 2 stars for this, but food items were WAY off, not just a few bucks. Easily fixed with a Sharpie or Liquid Paper, instead of excuses about prices to re-print menus. It was an enjoyable meal and I'd come again for the lobster rolls. I really like this place. I have been going for years and have seen it change hands within the family. The food is really good and the servers are very attentive. The only problem I have is with the new tall girl with dark hair behind the bar. She has a nasty attitude. Real tuff guy like. While I was sitting at one of the high top tables next to the bar, I observed her ignoring and yelling at people. She was saying things like "I'm talking. I'll be with you when I'm done". Stopped by for a late lunch on Super Bowl Sunday It wasn't busy yet, but we had a reservation just in case. When we arrived, there was a table set up for us. We sat and were greeted by Nicole, our server. It was our first time there, so we had a lot of questions. There was a paper menu but not a lot of detail on it. For example, what is the NSB Chicken sandwich? Nicole took all our questions and described everything for us. Later, I saw a QR code on the menu which led to an electronic menu that had pictures and descriptions. She could have just led us that way but instead she was patient enough to verbally tell us. That was nice. I was delighted to see a Christmas cocktail list. After all, it's February. But who doesn't love Christmas? I had the gingerbread cocktail. It was delicious. Evan Williams bourbon, straight outta Kentucky. Can't go wrong! The restaurant was chilly. It had been raining, and the AC was on as well as ceiling fans, so we ordered hot waters. She didn't judge us at all. Drinks came quick. I asked about the oysters. She said they were from somewhere in California. I expected gulf oysters so that was a surprise. We ordered a few appetizers- 6 oysters, the pretzels with Gouda cheese, 10 medium spiced wings, and the ahi tuna. Everything was good. The pretzels came out hot. They were seasoned with garlic and salt. The tuna was a huge portion, served w soy and ginger. The wings- we wished for spicier. Next time we will get Hot instead of Medium. The sauce was also more on the plate than the wings so we stirred them on the plate to get them saucier. Funny, they served three pieces of celery with the wings. One piece for each of us. My parents had the French onion soup- which they said was awesome. Lots of cheese, great flavor and a big ol crouton inside. They did wish for a bit more onions though. For lunch, I had the black and blue burger. I love that they let me choose my temp- I went for medium. I ditched the bun but I believe it was brioche. For my side mom wanted Cole slaw so I got that for her. Mom had the twin lobster roll served cold, with a side of onion rings. The cold version is Mayo. The hot version is butter. That's like Maine vs Connecticut style, I believe. Dad went for the port orange seafood combo. That seafood platter is basically your choice of two items- fried fish, crab cake, shrimp any style, or one huge piece of fish, with two sides. Dad went for the crab cake, flaky white fish fried, and for the sides had the Irish potato cake and Cesar salad. We ate everything. I ordered a breckenridge peanut butter porter. It was absolutely delicious. Only 6% though. Dad liked my beer so much, he ordered one for himself! I also had a taste of the pineapple cider- tasted like candy!!!! Of course we had to have dessert. I had the special, the Oreo bread pudding. Holy cow. Oreos were baked in and there was an Oreo on top of a huge dollop of whipped cream with a side of vanilla ice cream. It was fantastic!!! Mom had the key lime pie. It was a generous slice with a lot of whip as well, nice and tart. Yum. Mom had a cup of coffee, which she said was pretty standard. Overall, we had a great time. We were pleasantly surprised about the level of service. Nicole was on it. We didn't have to wait for anything. She knew every menu item. Food came out hot and drinks were fast. Bathrooms were clean. Parking was plentiful. They have some super bowl specials going on, as well as valentines cocktails. We would definitely come here again. Next time, I'm getting the Rueben sandwich. I hear they're making the corned beef in house! Mom and dad said they're getting the pretzels again. I'd try the blackened red fish next time too. It's not a fancy place. I will l let you know, that we have been here probably 2 dozen times. In the last couple years. The service was horrible today. The food was horrible. The server basically abandoned us. And, was very rude. The manager did take the horrible sandwich off the menu. But that doesn't excuse the fact that the server. While walking off. Said" Well, I liked it". She then never came back by, except after watching her chat with other employees and sitting at a table. Never said thank you. Still. We tipped 20% on original bill. We ate a pretty full meal, including the ahi tuna (really nice, and fresh), conch chowder, some other items I forgot, and chicken wings (because they were on sale on Mondays). Everything was good, and some items really good. Better variety on the menu AND better taste than you'd expect from a "sports bar." My only issue was ordering a martini and getting a margarita. The waitress clearly doesn't drink, to not know the difference. I questioned it when she delivered the drink, because obviously it was either the world's largest martini (my hope, LOL) or a different drink. One sip told me what it was. Well, by then I was enjoying myself enough I just went with it. I'd give it 4.5 stars if that were a choice.
