I was placed here back in the mid 80's. I loved it here great staff, to me it was a beautiful place to live. I went to school down the street also to San Dimas high school. i don't have any negative stories to say of this place nothing. The staff use to take us clothes shopping at the mall, during the holidays it was wonderful. The only thing about this place is I left to soon. Wish I had stayed until i graduated high school. most likely would've stayed to work here, every now and then I think about some of my peers and staff. Probably could rite a book about this place. This agency has worked on improving in the last couple years that we've worked with them, however, recently we're not receiving the support as we did years back. We've had our ops and downs with them but today, it's almost like they've given up and are strictly about budget. They're not hiring the resources they need. Like anything else, there are good and bad quality workers. Unfortunately, we don't feel we have a worker who wants to support us as well as the higher ups. This turned from putting children first to now finances. At least it feels that way. There are other agencies out there. I'd encourage you to keep looking first. I went in for an interview the questions they had were very hard but I answered them to the best of my capability my resume was impeccable and I have so much experience working in the field they were hiring for, to be honest I thought the interview went well. I for sure thought I had the job, but unfortunately the only thing they were basing their decision on not hiring me is because of my weight. I've never had a problem completing an assignment or job and I don't let my weight get in the way. My sister went and interviewed for the same position she had less experience working with kids and they literally offered her the position. I literally had to call for an update on my application to find out if I got the job they couldn't even have the decency to call me and say hey thanks for the interest but we found better candidates. We went through three other orientations before we attended McKinley's. Within the first 5 minutes of the presentation, we knew that this was it--McKinley was where we would build our family. McKinley has the most competent, talented, and well prepared staff by far. Everyone was extremely professional and knowledgeable, approachable and warm. As we continued with our adoption process, we met Kari, our amazing adoption supervisor, who put all of our fears to rest. She answered every question and guided us through the process of our home study. We were expecting a huge life upheaval, but Kari made it simple. Getting personal about your life can be scary, but Kari and everyone at McKinley made is easy. We are in the matching process right now with who we hope to be future children. And we may not be able to tell the future, but we trust McKinley every step of the way. read more

Things have changed so much over the years on this organization. The new CEO is great and he is trying to work hard to really make this organization shine. Their social workers and foster and adoption department is amazing. The director Julissa is an amazing woman. They make you feel comfortable and close to you. They are helpful and will be on your side whenever an issue arises on the adoption process. However, I recently had an opportunity to learn more about the internal operations of the company and I'm extremely disappointed at the people who actually make the big decisions. The committee and board members of this organization is horrendous. Most of their members are so far to the right that unfortunately their decisions and actions are holding the company and their amazing employees back. The organization has so much potential but the big bosses are limiting any opportunity that this company has to strive and grow. Why a one start review? Because although employees and other staff are great, a company which is built in classism, unfairness, bigotry and denial can't strive. Hopefully new board members will bring in new plans that will change the course of the organization but for that to happen they need to get rid of the ones they have now. We transferred to McKinley Children's Center from Avant-Garde Foster Family Agency in Corona approximately two months ago. We were so happy to become part of McKinley. They were absolutely amazing, patient, understanding, and willing to guide us with leaving our former foster agency. After having the worst experience at Avant-Garde we needed a fresh start. The staff at McKinley was professional and above all they listened to us. The intake process was organized and systematic. Letty Serrano kept us abreast of all issues and requirements. She also made herself available to answer questions. Our Home-study process was just a great as the intake. We worked with Kari Edwards and she was experienced and efficient. She definitely demonstrated high work ethic and ensured we met all the requirements to be a resource family with their Agency. We were impressed with their orientation because it broke down the entire process we thought we knew. We appreciated the videos and powerpoint because it truly helped in understanding what the foster system was all about. We learned more with McKinley than we had with the other foster agency we left. So far McKinley's response to our needs has been outstanding. Our new Agency Social Worker, Patrick is terrific! He is responsive and knowledgeable. If he does not have an answer to your question- he finds out and gets back to you. He is very friendly and professional. We have enjoyed working with him. Patrick and McKinley have followed-through and ensured they are providing us with support services. They have given our foster children the attention they deserve and need. Before I get into the full details, let me just start by saying that McKinley has surpassed any and every expectation that my husband and I had when it came to the certification process for adoption. That said, I want to dive into the details a little bit about the process, how we felt, and ultimately how the McKinley staff made us feel throughout the process. We were first introduced to McKinley at the Long Beach Pride festival in May of last year. We had the pleasure of meeting Hillary at the McKinley booth. Hillary is very outgoing, easy to talk to, and extremely knowledgeable about all things adoption and fostering. She was able to quickly answer all questions we had the day we met her and continued to be a truly valuable asset throughout the entire certification process. Shortly after meeting Hillary, we were contacted by her to set up our introduction course to McKinley, the foster/adopting process, and to go into more detail about what will be expected/required of foster/adoptive parents. The process for foster/adoption certification, while very complex, was rather simple in nature thanks to the staff at McKinley. Letty and Kari were our advocates and walked us through every piece of the puzzle and made sure address any concerns or questions we had. I'd say that a large part of why we are so happy with the outcome of certification process is directly related to the knowledge base, care, and compassion that Letty, Kari, and Hillary have for everyone they're working with. If ever you were looking for the "right adoption/foster agency" for you to adopt or foster through, look no further. McKinley is by far the best decision we could have ever made when it comes to finding our family. Mckinley Children's Center represents commitment to making a difference within communities and changing children's lives. The center has a variety of services to include a Success Academy (after school program with educational support) for children ages 5 and up. My daughter has been participating in the program and it has helped her get thru her first year of junior high. I want to thank the Success Academy Team for being dedicated to the children. If you are interested in adopting or fostering a child, start here. We started through a very complicated and long process with the County system. They were backlogged a ton. Later we learned about agencies like McKinley's who work with the County. They handle everything for you and make the process streamlined and easy. Once starting with McKinley's I think it was just a couple months to get approved, and then shortly thereafter we had our now daughter placed in our home. I was placed there for a year as a child. I got jumped by some other kids my first month there. After that i literally fought at least twice a week. The place was awful. Food was essentially garbage. On halloween, half of the kids left the facility. 10 kids were never caught and brought back. I personally acted out as a troubled kid. So, i ran away with some of the older kids. We were gone for at least 4 hours. When we got back, nobody even knew we were gone. In fact, the cafeteria had no food, so they were focused on that. There were drugs, guns, and everything else there. The staff did not care about anyone. They would simply call the police if something happened that couldn't be ignored. Now, it wasnt all bad. The African American staff member Greg made a horrible situation seem like a vacation for the hours he worked. He was the only one that truly cared. He took us bike riding, taught us about comics, took us hiking in the canyon, and did everything he could to improve the experience. I wouldn't suggest sending a child here for tdd he violence alone, but at least Greg was a good person. I had a really cool teach but the school was garbage. read more

My husband and I are currently in the process of being matched with a child all to thanks to the dedicated staff of McKinley. My husband and I along with our daughter wanted to expand our family, with McKinley Childern's Center that desire is bing realized. Leti, Hillary, Kari and the whole rest of the McKinley staff are wonderful, they are incredibly thorough, timely, fantastic communicators and I think my husband and I were home study approved in under 2 months, truly I think sooner. McKinley has gone above and beyond to aid my family in our desire to adopt, we are beyond thankful and delight in continuing to work with them. This is a review for the non-public school, Canyon View. My son has attended Canyon View for over 3 years. He has come so far since he started with CVS and the strides in his development are, in my opinion, nothing less than profound proof that collective interventions work! Not only has he progressed to levels that clearly pave his path to a successful future, our family has also learned a set of tools to continue his development that will encourage those successes. We owe this to the dedicated teachers and interventionists on board, and we will always be grateful to Canyon View for this. read more

Might be a great place for adoptions, but the children's center residential home is awful! Stealing, Foul Language and Physical alterations are a typical thing a child will experience here. Not to mention not having appropriate clothing supplied to them (mostly due to stealing) as well as not teaching the kids proper hygiene. Not just from the other residents, but the staff as well. Speaking of the staff... I am sure they are underpaid and I know they are way understaffed. They are visibly and audibly frustrated and generally not interested in the boys whatsoever. They are rude to parents/friends of the boys. They obviously do not have the funds and/or trained staff to correctly be called a home-like environment, a haven, safe and secure!!! They only had one staff member for over 10 adolescent emotionally unstable boys one night - staff member had no time for parent or teen who actually needed help. A full-blown investigation should be done here, but California's broke, so it will sadly probably never happen. If you have a choice, don't choose McKinley Children's center! Don't donate money to them!! Don't choose McKinley! I'm devastated we ever heard of them!! That is the only reason I am here trying to save others from this wretched place. read more

First of All The really Cares ! I have been Foster Mom for 5+ years. Not every home is Brady Bunch ! But with good heart Patience Understanding and Patience your helping your building your family.Our goal is bring families back together! The staff is Fantastic ! They are supportive I can call for help at any hour ! Why I say that I have been to ER. Middle of night with child in server pain. They are there for us and children ! Weekly they check in on kids from how are you doing and what can they do help. Yes life's not Fair But We can Make It little Better Place !! All these kids want more than anything is home who cares, who will ask how was your day ? , how are you doing ? Take them with you as family member not leave them at home...if you have heart and undetstand how it would feel to loose everything your room your things your pets??
