The good: Lisa, the service coordinator, was very good and quickly remembered me on every call. Juan and Gerry, the on-site technicians were also very good. They were competent and fully explained the issues that my brand new elevator was experiencing. Beyond the above mentioned employees, management was a different story. To be fair, and I always try to be, the basic problem was the elevator. However, management was neither effective with coordinating the parts to be ordered from the manufacturer, expediting the order, nor communicating with me, the consumer. I have been without the use of elevator service for 6 months, from the date it was "completed", to yesterday. My wife's mobility is impaired with bad knees and so stairs are difficult for her. My final impression of McKinley will be held until my request that the one year warranty will be extended to a full year, since we have not had the use of the elevator for half the warranty period. Avoid this company at all costs! We've heard bad stories about them overcharging but didn't believe till it happened to us. They came to look at our residential elevator and told us that it needed a new motherboard then told us they couldn't get the motherboard so they had to replace the entire elevator controls for a grand total of $53,000 We called around and had another company come out and for only $500 they just flipped a switch and got the elevator working. So I'm short, McKinley falsely claimed we needed something we didn't and over charged us $52,500!!!! Will be telling everyone we know not to use them! read more

I have never seen a company that charges for technician's travel time!!! (Pic attached) the guy was here less than 30 min. Their technicians are super nice and friendly, but this billing is ridiculous, they also jack up the prices every year without prior notification. For several years they came out and "serviced " the elevator, charging us more and more each year. This year the service technician told us the elevator was out of code on clearances and he would not service the unit. Used this company for our 2 outdoor wheel chair lift. $330 trip charge and $108 for service. I know from Irvine to Santa Monica is far but seems high. $438 total Service was done but then they said we needed new batteries. Why not call to confirm the price and change the same day? Did you forget to bring extra battery? Should you not be prepared? We really don't want to have to pay for another trip charge. Never got a call about the battery needed to be changed. Got a email quote a few days later saying it will be $1300 to change 1 battery from 1 lift? I thought it was outrageous and decided to check how hard it would be to change. Check the lift unit only took me 5 min and 5 screws to access the battery. Battery is $35 on Amazon x 2 = $70 and 10 min of my time (if I changed it myself) Called talk a Liz she said we can change ourselves, but then a day later Scott the manger said No you can't and has to be done by certified tech (ok that is fine with me but you need to make sure your reps know not to give wrong info) Had our management company complaint about the price. They said ohh sorry it was an error, the new quote is $500 (it's not a big job to change out battery for 1 lift) This whole situation rubbed me the wrong way. Would rather pay again for the units to get rechecked then give it to McKinley. Ended up with GALAXY ELEVATOR (Great company and communication). They did the whole service and battery change for $375. Compared to $438 (service) + $500 (battery repayment quote) Make sure you know what you are being charged snd shop around. read more

In August 2022, I paid McKinley $14,000 dollars to install a wheelchair lift. It is 2 years later than that and they never installed the lift, but they surely spent the money. I sincerely wish I had seen their Yelp page before working with McKinley. They have no conscience with regards to the people they work with and how their behavior affects the populations they are meant to serve. If I had seen these reviews, I'd know they routinely railroad disabled and elderly people, and they'd surely have no trouble at all sabotaging our small non-profit dedicated to providing fresh food access to the community. Each time we reach out to them, they make a new excuse as to why the site is ineligible for a lift to be installed. They have been unwilling to clarify what they are asking for and how they want us to achieve finishes. In asking for clarification, they try to force a site visit on you, which they charge about $2,000 for, instead of just answering questions. I have recordings of said interactions. I have worked with several licensed professionals, all of whom have expressed frustration and confusion at this firm's behavior and have recordings of all these strange conversations. They have tried to imply that we are the problem, but the rest of the build out was completed successfully and all inspections passed. McKinley remains the only piece keeping this project from completion. Because the site was designed to their specs for this specific lift that only they are authorized to install in CA, we have been stuck at a standstill. It has cost us so many thousands playing their run around games. I highly encourage every person that has been wronged by this establishment to file complaints with the Secretary of State, as well as with the BBB, pursuing any actions legally available to them. read more

My wheelchair lift starting acting up, so called McKinley they came quickly and the tech said it needed a new harness, he Said should be 1k or so but the service manager would call with an exact quote. Heard back the next day, they wanted $5k!! That wasn't going to happen. Still had to pay the 375 trip fee. Ended up with Galaxy elevator, great friendly service. They told me I didn't have power so I spent $200 for an electrician to tell me I did have power and that their only guess was the techs didn't flip the fuse directly under the control box. I purchased a new elevator two years ago. We love the system. It was making a slight noise and due for a check up. The installing company no longer services elevator. I called McKinley. From the initial call it was quality service. This system requires highly trained technicians and McKilnley delivers. The techs were skilled, knowledgeable, and courteous. So...our builder has used Mc/Kinley for years..we have used them for 5 plus years...new home new elevator...they did a maintenance scheduled visit while we were away on vacation and sent us an estimate for $4,000 plus to replae the cylinder! not sure this is exhorbidant....however...there is no explanation of labor time to install or whatever...not happy and looking for another elevator company to come in way lower than this!! wow! ps they didnt even say if it is now inoperable...which makes me so afraid to let people use it while we are away. By now, we still having problems with this company. The elevator inside door keeps opening on itself while the elevator is moving. When we are inside it is fine because all we have to do is to close it and the elevator finish its course. But if you call the elevator from outside and it happens, there is no fix. We have to call the company to send the tech. The part is defective, and instead of fixing, they keep charging us. The elevator is only about 6mo old. We've been using McKinley for elevator maintenance for six years. They have consistently performed their work well. They proactively reach out to schedule regular maintenance, the appointment booking process is easy, the technician communicates proactively when en route, the technician consistently arrives on time & performs the work efficiently. When completed, the technician communicates clearly what work was done (as well as an update on the elevator's condition). During COVID-19, they are following strict safety protocols as well (i.e., wearing mask, sanitizing work areas upon completion, contactless payment). I highly recommend McKinley. read more

Condescending salesman Randy Weiler. His attitude bleeds into the Project Manager base (Jennifer) and the technicians (Chuck V.) that visit the site. Cordial until they get your business. In order to win our business Randy agreed to lower the price by $4,000.00. We accidentally signed the incorrect contract and he has refused to date to honor his word or refund the Church the $4,000. He refuses any and all email requests and phone calls. Randy is dishonest and therefore not trustworthy. I do not recommend doing business with him or McKinley. If they were to refund the Church their money I would consider a different review. I know that the markup on these units is a minimum of 30% since I have seen the back room paperwork in the past. read more

Avoid them, find someone else. Called them for regular maintenance on our working elevator. Af of November they charge $480 for the first hour and $209 for every subsequent hour. They invoiced me for 2.5 hours of work without ever telling me what work needed to be done. They said I knew the hourly rate and should have told them to stop working after the first hour if I had concerns with the cost. It's not normal that you call someone into your home and they perform work without ever telling you what needs to be done or how long it may take. I don't think it's the customer's responsibility to put a clock on the technician and ask them to leave after the first hour. Again, the technician never asked for sign off on the work that needed to be done. They refused to meet me halfway and work on the cost, told me I knew the rate and the technician does not need to communicate what he will be doing to the elevator or how long it may take. That seems like bad business practice to me but their billing rep disagreed and said this is how they work. read more

We have built several hoistways for clients who needed residential elevators. We called them for a client who needed a repair​. Initially,​ they said they would be there on the 16th, at a price of $340.00 an hour with $170.00 for each additional hour. To come today would be $750.00 an hour for a minimum​ of two hours. They were supposed to be a good company. We had a new exterior lift installed. Upon completion, there was no way to close the door from the inside. The installer acknowledged the part was defective. 5 months later they come to fix it. Technician is not sure he has the right part. Still does not work, now they are offering to fix it for $1,200. It's still under warranty and complaints were made from day 1. They acknowledged the issue, and still want an additional $1,200 to finish the install. Would not recommend this circus. read more

We just recently purchased a home with an elevator. I am a little afraid of getting caught in an elevator (I'm claustrophobic) so I immediately called McKinley Elevator to do an inspection of my elevator and recommend any repairs or maintenance needed. I found the servicemen to be very friendly and helpful. They explained how to check to make sure the batteries were still taking a charge and told me what would happen when the battery was low (the elevator will only go down so you can exit without being caught.)
