Beautiful marina, plenty of boat slips!

McKinley Marina is beautifully set along Lake Michigan front and center! It's very well kept and has over 600 boat slips for all sizes of boats. There were even a few big houseboats docked there. There's a beautiful lake walkway and a bunch of nice places to sit, relax and watch the boats sail by! They also have nice public restrooms if you plan on spending the day there.

This was a Sunday Fun-day, 74 degrees, flat water light wind. With plenty of sailboats and motor yachts and power boats coming and going. The facilities are clean and updated. Boat ramp is wide and long. 6 launches no waiting. Plenty of trash cans and staff did a good job to make sure they never gets over full before dumping. The break water is a good exercise by foot rollerblade or bike. Families enjoy fishing and fresh air. It's almost a mile total for a walk out and back. There are plenty of benches, trash cans and very little trash along the way. Parking is difficult as usual on nice days. Sheriff did a good job of making rounds.

Every experience has always been great! They are super friendly, always knowledgeable, and super kind. Even today I ran my boat up there to ask a few simple questions. Even though it's wintering season and I know they are super busy, they made time to take a quick look at my boat and answer my questions. Great dealership, great people!

We had been in discussions with this dealership to trade in our used bass boat (motor and trailer included, fully operable). After going back and forth remotely on trade-in value -- sharing photos they raised no questions or concerns about -- we agreed on a price. We then visited the dealership twice in person to make sure the boat and the deal were the right fit for our family. On what was supposed to be our final visit to close the deal, we signed an agreement based on the value we'd settled on and filled out a credit application to finance the remaining balance. The dealership ran a hard credit pull that same evening. Only afterward did we find out the deal wouldn't actually close that day -- we'd need to make the long drive back out a second time, despite the dealership knowing how far we'd already traveled to get this done. The next morning, we learned our boat's value had been cut by more than half. Their inspection nitpicked ordinary wear on a 20-year-old boat to justify gutting the trade-in price -- after they'd already seen the photos, already had our signatures, and already pulled our credit. To be clear about the order of events: they ran our credit after we signed based on one agreed number, then tried to push us into financing significantly more after the fact. That's not a legitimate inspection process -- that's a bait-and-switch. When we raised concerns, the sales manager was dismissive, with the kind of sleazy, high-pressure sales attitude that confirmed we'd made the right call walking away. The GM tried to get ahold of the situation but you could tell he didn't want to deal with this headache on a Friday. Lessons learned: get every valuation in writing, don't sign anything until the trade-in number is truly final, and don't let anyone pull your credit until you're sure the deal is real. We won't be buying our next boat here, and I'd encourage other families to think carefully before doing business with this dealership.

The problem is they aren't really set up as a rental place-I'm guessing it's a pretty small part of their core business of selling and storing boats so it was a bit tedious checking in and out with long delays. It was also rather tedious communicating with them prior to our rental-literally days would go by before emails would get responses so one must really plan ahead with them if renting. Equipment-wise they offered just two options a10-person pontoon (probably the newest I've ever rented) or a deck boat.

Salt water? I live in the midwest. I tried to plead with them and asked for the manager which they said was out of town so I paid the 370 bucks to have them clean one terminal on a dashboard switch. And then gave me a price of 1600 bucks to clean the rest which I didnt have them do OBVIOUSLY. I called Bennington and they agreed that this place was ripping me off. I then called the manager (Matt) who informed me that he doesn't know why his people would tell me this and agreed to refund my credit card which I thought was commendable. That refund took 4 weeks and several phone calls to finally get my money back. Im not sure why they are treating boaters like this. Maybe they know my ex wife? I will never go back here again and I warn anyone who I can to do the same. Beware! I posted some pictures of the terminals that this place said was completely corroded from saltwater. You tell me.
