I have been meaning to leave a review here for a while now, but recently, they really helped me out so I finally got a round to it. This place was recommended to me by a friend when I first moved to Milwaukee. Not knowing anything about cars, finding a good auto shop with trustworthy mechanics is always important for me. There are such large variations between the quotes you get from different service centers/auto shops and I never know which is due to the cost of parts and which is actually a rip-off. Jonny is the best and very reliable. He is a very friendly guy and also very helpful in explaining what he's going to do with the car repairs and what will realistically need repairs (instead of those blanket repair costs that service centers always slap on). I love coming here and talking to Jonny. After 3 years he is someone I can rely on for anything about my car. This past Saturday, my driver side window stopped working (Honda Accord 2008) and I brought it to the dealer service center as it was the only place open with availability on such short notice on the weekends (I did not feel comfortable keeping the window in the open position parked outside). I instantly regretted it when they quoted me a $130 diagnostic fee just to take a look. I understand the fee, but they would not factor this cost into the final cost to replace the parts that was causing the window issue and was still going to charge about $180+ on labor the next day. I called Jonny to see if this was something he could fix and of course it is, but not only that but he was able to get the part for cheaper too. I was glad that Jonny even took time from his busy day to talk to me over the phone about this quote that the dealer service center gave me. I'm very glad to be bringing my business to MidCoast Auto and wouldn't even care if it cost more because they are so transparent and reliable. In summary, Jonny's the best. MidCoast Auto is great. I have been bringing my car and my wife's car there for about 5 years now. My car is high mileage. I keep coming back because they are honest, and never over prescribe like the dealers do. Their labor rates are very reasonable as well, especially compared to dealers. I have referred several friends to them. Because they have become so popular due to their great reputation , you have to be willing to be patient, because they simply don't have the capacity a larger service center or dealership does. But for our family, it's worth the wait. My hope is that they expand their operation. They certainly have enough business to warrant expansion. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE: They do not want your business... I set up my FIRST appointment for a simple frost heater and rear bumper trim install, which I supplied both of the parts. I also wanted them to look at a few small things, all of which I was told could be done in a day no problem. I setup my appointment in advance and was told I was going to get a quote for the heater install, which I never received. I dropped off my car the night before, and they had the entire next day to work on it. I called the day of dropping it off, and was told the frost heater quote would be given as soon as they can look at my vehicle. The day of my appointment, I received 0 calls from midcoast from 8AM to 4:40PM. I called at 11:30 to check on the status and inquire about my quote, I was told "They are still working on it, getting you all of the information so we only need to make one call vs. several." I waited until 1:00 and then I tried to call to see what was going on. No answer. I get hung up on, put on hold for 5 mins at a time and talk to no one. I try calling again at 2:00, again no one is answering, or I get put on hold immediately with no answer. I try again at 3:00, with no one answering OR calling me back. At this point I have no idea the status of my car of these installs. I end up having to leave work early because I have not heard a thing about my appointment other than "They are working on it" at 11:30. I finally get someone on the phone at 4:40 when I am already on my way there to pick it up. The BOZO who I was dealing with tells me "I tried to call at 1:30 with your quotes"... I never got a call from midcoast or any other numbers all day. I was watching my phone for this call and I did not miss any. He tells me they didnt do any of the installs because it is against their policy to do any of the work before the quotes are excepted? Even when explaining this to me, he STILL DID NOT PROVIDE ANY QUOTES! I STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY DID for the 8.5 hrs they "worked" on my vehicle. I still dont even know what the quotes are because he never told me. I went in to get my key and the BOZO just hands me my key and turns around n walks away. This place is an absolute JOKE! Consider yourself warned and take your car/money elsewhere! read more

I was referred by an auto parts shop to Midcoast and i was not disappointed. They replaced my front engine cradle/subframe that had been rusted beyond safety and I needed it fixed before winter. The cost was on the pricey side, but it was about the average you'd pay at any reputable shop. Service and communication was great, especially from Jon! There was a delay due to an issue with the auto parts shop, but it was quickly resolved and I was sent onto my way with a new subframe. I was definitely satisfied and will return for future repairs! read more

I was in a small collision. No outside damage was done but my wheel alignment & steering/suspension were affected along with a replacement of all 4 tires. Midcoast made sure to communicate with me often. I have zero knowledge in cars and they were very patient with giving me the proper knowledge about everything. Just had my first interaction with Jon not 15 minutes ago and I'm already racing to Yelp to write Mid Coast Auto a review... Jon is incredibly ethical and extremely helpful and friendly. Went in for a simple oil change and was a little worried about the "lurch" that was occurring when my automatic 2008 VW shifted out of first gear. He let me know that it was a simple fix to the filter and a fluid flush when he could have totally taken advantage of my ignorance and said it was major transmission trouble. Given that I have a VW, I know that they're notorious for electrical problems and throwing up their "warning lights" on the dash all the time. He said my brake light was on but that my brakes were perfect so that it was obviously a wiring issue that was also a cheap/simple fix to just get rid of the annoying warning light. This part of our interaction was what sealed the deal for me. I was scared and unknowing re: my transmission fix but I just recently had porcelain brakes put on that should seriously outlast the vehicle... so again he had an opportunity to lie and say there was a problem with my brakes and take advantage, and he did no such thing. On top of his honesty and good work, he's just an all-around nice guy. He will take a second to teach you a thing or two quickly and help you get to know your car better. Love this place. We found them kind of by accident when we wanted Continental tires and they had them. That was two years ago and we've been coming back ever since then. The staff/mechanics are SO NICE and accommodating. My husband and I try to support local/small business when we can and these guys are great. As a women, I never feel like they are trying to pull a fast one on me or like they are trying to just take my money and I'm the one that deals with car issue/oil changes so I've been here and called them a lot! If I could give this joint zero stars, I would. I brought my old rusty sh*t box here twice in the past, and had a different experience with each. The first time was just for rear struts; the job was completed with little complications, and I had no complaints-aside from the extra time it took them to discover the back seat needed to be removed prior to. Rookie mistake there, I got past it. John (the owner) appeared to be knowledgable, professional, and honest. Least he was the FIRST time, so I decided to return for future work. The second time though, proved to be a nightmare, and why I don't recommed them. I returned for a blown brake line, and busted exhaust. We live in the snowbelt, and my girl is over 2 decades old, but she's a simple enough model to work on. Apparently Mid Coast couldn't handle it. I dropped the car off, and was quoted/told it'd be ready in a day...then two...then three. Nearly a week of patience later, I didn't recieve any updates from the shop, past the first two times that I spoke with John. It wasn't until I called the front desk to finally complain about their shi*t turnaround time and lack of communication, that I was given the run around and ripped off. Turns out, I was charged around $400 for his tech to basically disassemble the exhaust/line, and tell me they can't do much to correct either issue due to excessive rust, lack of part availability, and cost factors. I didn't want to have the entire exhaust dropped and replaced, but I reiterated the importance of my break lines being crucial (it was in the middle of winter). Mid Coast didn't care, and couldn't be bothered further. I was charged for 4 hours worth of bogus labor and parts. When I left the shop, the exhaust wasn't improved AT ALL (matter of fact, it was even louder), and my brake line was still blown/unresolved. Long story short, I took her to an old friend (20 yr. veteran mechanic) who completed the brake line issue (with less than material needed) in under 2 hours, without a lift. Funny how that works...Needless to say, this shop and his staff are GARBAGE!!! And their box of a front desk, needs to learn basic customer service, because she clearly has no respect for anyone doing business there, much less herself the way she treats/talks to people. Don't even bother calling her to get an update either, because you'll be chastized as to why a 2-hour brakeline job takes them nearly a week to complete (or not at all, in my case). Other reviews have echoed similar complaints as well, so I know this wasn't an isolated issue. UNREAL! Stay away from these clowns, take your money elsewhere. read more

We've been taking our cars here for the past 2-3 years. They were recommended by a good friend. We have always had good experiences. Recently, while I was driving, my alternator started to fail. I called them and they gave me quick instructions and said to bring it in immediately for my/the kids safety. I was very appreciative of their quick response/direction. They also have also finished repairs the day of our appointments. That's HUGE for us since we definitely are a two car household. They do an excellent job of explaining the issues they find and providing options when surprise repairs pop up. I feel their prices are very fair and are always exactly spot on with the estimates. I brought my son's car here to have his exhaust repaired. The staff was very helpful at making the appointment. We did have a mix up as to what day the car should be brought in but they were able to fix it. I'm not a big car person but the repair cost seemed reasonable. The car is working fine for now. The thing I was most shocked about was a follow up text asking if there were any problems. I have never had a mechanic place care about that before. I will definitely use them again and recommend them to others. read more

An auto mechanic kept my car for over a year. I had to get the police to get the vehicle back. Last May 2017 bought car. I found a shop that was highly rated on line, view shop and met owner/ mechanic. I called shop to get updates. The shop indicated job to be completed within anticipated 45 days to do job so that I could take it to emissions. Then I called shop and was alerted of issues and they needed more time. Partial owner Jon said I should call and get extended 30 days for emissions; and I did. Shop missed all the dates. And I had to call to hear lies all year long from the Mid Coast Auto Service Shop. May 2018 just got car back through police assistance. Car was in worst driving shape still had check engine light, yellow service vehicle light, and now service transmission now red triangle light. read more

I had it towed out and taken to Mid Coast due to the great reviews I saw online, and once they got their hands on my car, it was back in my possession a day later. I cannot thank you all enough. The poor communication and customer service on top of the fact that I had to contact their third party supplier myself in order to ensure my car was done on time is not worth whatever work they are capable of doing. I had nothing but good luck with this place until 06/07/2019 brought my car there for an obvious knocking noise in the front drivers side of my car that I had for some time, first they replaced the tie-rod and that didn't fix the problem, then they replaced the ball joint and that didn't solve the problem, I called their shop on 06/07/19 they said my car was fixed and I could pick up my car. When I got to the shop they would not let me take it for a test drive without one of their mechanics riding along??? then they said they were to busy and that I could take it for a test drive just as long as I give them my credit card information???REALLY? low and behold the car had the same knocking noise, when I complained one of their mechanics he said to figure out the problem they would need to replace other parts in the front of the car to fix the issue with the car. 1. Why did they say my car was fixed when it wasn't?? 2. Why didn't they just admit the parts the installed didn't fix the problem? This is how you treat a regular customer??
