I'm sure this dog park is an absolute gem, but if you go during a rainy season, expect pits of mud and expect your dog to unnaturally gravitate towards it, hehe. If it's rained at all that week, bring a towel for your car! Nonetheless, this place is HUGE! I love that the big dog side has so much space for them to roam or for you to throw a ball... far. Everyone here seems to be incredibly friendly with well-behaved dogs and it wasn't too busy for a mid-week, mid-afternoon trip. At 1 point, we were the only ones there for a good while. Anyway, the poop bags/bins are well-spaced and parking isn't an issue. The people who come here and whoever maintains this dog park truly care and do a good job at keeping it clean and pleasant for others to enjoy. This is a mulch park, so keep that in mind. I also recommend having some poop bags at the ready because it's nearly impossible to distinguish one "log" from another if you have to walk away to retrieve a bag. read more

I am not a fan of dog parks as a rule BUT my husband really wanted to take our two pups there and see how it went. I want to give a huge shout out to the people who understood and knew our big babies were incredibly nervous and spoke out about their first couple times to a dog park as well. It made us so much more comfortable and the dogs relaxed after 20 minutes or so and we all had a great time. Not everyone ( human) is friendly but we were sure loved on by all the dogs. read more

Awesome place to go and take the dog . Extremely packed and croweded on the weekends especially Sunday . I try to go during the week or later in the evening to avoid so many different dogs . Most of the dogs are friendly and get along there are times of course you maybhear a few dogs getting after one another but I haven't seen anything happen that wasn't normal . They have huge areas for dogs to run and play and roll around and get dirty ! My dog loves this park and she enjoys meeting the other dogs who may be just as curious as she is . read more

WE NEED GRASS! This place is a muddy mess. I think it used to be a fantastic park. Wood chips won't cut it we need grass. Maybe try sectioning it off like the George bush and 75 dog park does to keep the grass healthy. I moved to McKinney and have been nothing but disappointed in the quality of parks here. McKinney did a nice job creating their dog park. The large dog park is about 3 acres. There's plenty of room to run. There is shade along one side for those hot days. They've also built a small pavilion with 2 picnic tables. It's well lit with 6 towers for lighting the entire area. Near the front, they created a water feature and is separated from the other areas. It's well secured to give you control of your dog getting wet. As it's still cool, they don't have it working yet. There is no grass, but the entire area is well covered in mulch. The down side can be considered good and bad. There are a series of 3 gates to enter the park. It certainly keeps it secure from loosing control of your dog. The down side is the gates are not self-closing. It takes extra effort entering and leaving. Also a downside is the limited seating. With a park this large, I can see running out of places to sit while your dogs play. Overall, this is one of the best parks in north Dallas. I highly recommend checking it out. read more

I met some very kind individuals who really made me feel comfortable. I am definitely taking my dog there again. It was my first time here last week and I'm not sure I'd come back. While it's very spacious for my corgi to run around, it's all mulch so when other dogs poo (or my own), it's very hard to search for the poop if you walk away to grab a bag. I can also see a problem in the summer time when it's really hot and there's not much shade for the pawrents to sit and watch their pups play. I also don't like the water area because it gets VERY muddy. My dog, however, had a lot of fun sitting in the mud (not fun cleaning up) and the water is not contained in the area; it spills out into the entrance area and the dog park entrances so your dog is forced to get wet. I'd rather drive a little further to northbark where it's mostly grassy area and if you want to take your dog for a swim, that's a separate area where you don't have to worry about your dog getting wet and dirty. read more

If I would have gotten around to this 2 or 3 week ago, this would be a solid 5 star review. Sadly, I cannot in good conscience give anything but 1 star today. I have a 2 year old Boxer in great health. All vaccinations required and then some. She has never been sick... never so much as a flea. I also have a Great Dane puppy (6 months), also in good health, also vaccinated for anything available. When my family moved here at the end of April, we were thrilled to live down the street from an awesome new dog park. We became regulars, every weekend and sometimes by myself during the week. Here is my problem... Once we started frequenting the dog park, my dogs started having problems. At first I was reluctant to attribute it to the dog park because I kept asking around and no one else was having issues. My puppy got a horrid case of ear mites (transmitted only from close contact). Once we cleared those up, I was right back at my vet because of pink eye/conjunctivitis (also from close contact) in both dogs. After healing from those instances, we were happy to return to the park on a regular weekend visit. By Tuesday night, I knew something was wrong. My Boxer was extremely ill. I took her BACK to the vet on Wednesday and was given the diagnosis of KENNEL COUGH. My poor Great Dane pup was right behind he the next afternoon. Fever, Breathing trouble, coughing, gagging, throwing up phlegm and SNOT. SNOT EVERYWHERE. Despite vaccinations for this particular malady, they contracted it. Respectfully, don't say it could be from anywhere else because I am a stay at home mom and my dogs are never around any other animals EXCEPT the dog park. Also, my vet (who I have made rich since moving here!) has told me that we were the 5th family in 2 weeks to bring in sick dogs after visiting this specific park. He has advised us to return at our own (our dog's) risk. I LOVE THE IDEA OF THIS PARK! I LOVE THE WATER FEATURE! I LOVE THE SIZE... Basically you could say I loved everything about this park except irresponsible pet owners who brought a sick dog. I have seen so many puppies WAY too young to have all vaccinations required, I have seen way too many people NOT clean up after their dog poops. I have experienced way too many small dogs in the large dog area... they attack my poor GD puppy on a regular basis. Or better yet, I have to deal with huffy owners whose little dog just got stepped on by my 100 lb puppy. LOTS of dogs with no visible rabies tags. I see dogs peeing IN THE WATER BOWL/FOUNTAIN with people laughing about it. PLEASE CITY OF MCKINNEY REGULATE/MONITOR THIS DOG PARK!!!! I tried to give a review on the park's (unofficial) FB page, but sadly my post was deleted. But given the redheaded stepchild vibe of the accommodations here for small dogs, I won't be so generous. Unfortunately, far too little of the 2-acre Bonnie Wenk dog park space is devoted to the small dog park. When I first pulled up to it yesterday, my stomach dropped in disappointment. It's a repeat of the Canine Commons small dog park in Allen. I almost didn't even bother exiting my vehicle. But we went in & gave it a shot. What happened is what I always see in this type of highly disproportionate size allocation: I was solo in the small dog park & watched owners with Chihuahuas, Terriers, and Dachshunds take one look at the tiny, unpopulated small dog park and opt instead for the large dog park - where their dogs ran alongside Labs, Huskies, & German Shepherds. If you're thinking "Yeah, and?" then ask an E-Clinic vet sometime if this is a wise call. After 10 minutes of seeing my dog do no more than trot due to the tiny space & marveling at the sheer size & beauty of the large dog park right next to me, we left for the Ruff Range dog park in Frisco - the only small dog park (2 acres!) in Collin County that holds a candle to Dallas' Northbark. THAT small dog park has running space. It's a trek for me since I don't live in Frisco, but worth it. We'll go where we're fed. read more

My experience was a good one - the park was clean, the patrons were picking up after their fur children, the other dogs were friendly to my angel, there were water fountains in both the large and small breed sections, there are water features for the dogs to run through at the front of the park, the baggies were stocked, the gates were being open/closed quickly, and there are a few seats for people. My only complain thus far would be the cramped parking lot and the lack of seats. The place was bustling. I'd return. read more

Huge, very open area with lots of room for the dogs to run around and play. Very well kept up with a water area as well for those hot Texas summer days. The park is covered in bark instead of grass, which I am not a huge fan of. Nonetheless, the park is very clean with plenty of tables to sit back, relax, and chat. There is never a shortage of dogs at the park, usually always a good crowd. A good central location in McKinney with beautiful walking trails nearby as well! I have to agree with some of the other reviewers here. The concept is great! The size is great! The ability for dogs and their people to socialize, great! BUT, if you don't keep your dogs healthy and vaccinated, DON'T BRING THEM! I am an unfortunate example of someone who was stoked that this park is a couple of minutes from our house and we went all the time, until my 11 year old lab came down with kennel cough...She has never had an issue with anything in all these years, but as soon as we started going to this park every weekend BAM. This is the only place we go where she is around other dogs besides her lil brother and sister. This disease is highly contagious and I was worried about my other pups getting it. The vet said that sometimes they clear it themselves, and even though my Great Dane pup has just had a vaccination for "kennel cough" she may still be at risk. According to the vet kennel cough is caused by a number of viruses so if the vaccine didn't cover the one virus that she contracted then she could still become ill. So, even though we loved this park at one time, I am sad to say that we will not be going back. And I would caution anyone who loves their fur babies to consider these issues before going... read more

This is a beautiful park and dog park. The water facilities are fun to play in for your pups, the fencing is easy to maneuver and there are 4 gated areas. A leashing zone, a water pad with tubs and fountains, and two big play areas. One for large dogs and one for small dogs. Now the reason for three stars is because evidently the people of Mckinney or those visiting the parks are not familiar with dog safety or pack attitudes because 3-4 times I have visited there has been a dog mauling including my own one time by dog owners who are irresponsible or fail to maintain their own dogs behavior. Too often do you see the little dog getting injured by big dogs because people refuse to bring their dog into the proper area. I have seen multiple dogs become aggressive and violent and the owners don't do anything. When the cops were called they disregarded the pet laws for both Personal property and safety so they were no help. Don't come here if your dog is terrible just because you want your dog to be normal. Train them to behave first please. read more

This is a great place to let the dogs run and play freely. It is very secure with double gates for easy come-and-go without any dogs slipping out. There is a ton of play space with shady areas and tables for sitting. We go monthly for a big meet-up with other families who have the same breed of dog as we do. It's like a giant play date for this group of similar dogs. We love it! The grounds are well mulched and it is a place that is kept clean. Our dog enjoys his play time here as there is wide space for ball play and retrieving. There is a side of the park for smaller dogs to play comfortably and then a side where larger breeds can enjoy a more robust play. A water area offers splash pad and fountains for the dogs who enjoy getting wet. Always fun for everyone! The park is easy to find, just behind the WalMart on Virginia. Grassy walking areas surround the dog park for continued fun time spent with your fur baby. This seems like an ideal place to us. read more

I have been to dog parks all over the country and trust me, this is by far one of the best "dog parks". Some cities consider a 15x15 patch of fenced off grass a dog park so McKinney residents and visitors should be very appreciative. Everywhere you go there will be a few ding-a-lings who don't practice appropriate dog park etiquette- or anywhere else etiquette for that matter. Expect to see poop piles every now and then. Expect to have to watch your dog. Expect that other pet parents will be on the phone NOT watching theirs. With that said, Bonnie Wenk Dog Park has so many positives that I really don't want to focus on the negatives. The park entrance has a double gate design to minimize escape and prevent the "rushing"of new arrivals. You'll also find the splash pad and communal dog bowls a blessing after looooonnnnnggggg visits especially during Texas summer months. Do you have a Chihuahua or a Great Dane....doesn't matter, there's a separate area for pups under 25lbs. 2 acres of land - a lot of space - enough to throw balls and frizbees without feeling like you'll peg someone in the head. A portion of the park has a shaded pavilion with picnic tables in case you're a sit and watch type of person (just note a dog may be perched on top watching the action with you). And if your dog gets tired of all the doggy madness, you can walk the trails throughout Bonnie Wenk or visit the pond. Also check out the City of McKinney website for a list of rules. There is a large space with open areas and a lightly "wooded" section, seating for the two legged visitors, a doggie splash pad complete with plastic kiddie pools that is separate but easily accessible from the main area which is nice if you don't want Fido to get wet, separate small & large dog areas and plenty of trash cans. read more

Lot's of enclosed area for the pup to run and play without a leash. It's kind of sectioned off into three sections. Small dog, Large dog, and water area. We tried to keep our pup from the water so she didn't create mud for the car. She's young and small but the "small" section wasn't near as big and the really small pups tended to hang out in there. We tried her with the big dogs and it was a go! She had so much fun running around and meeting all of the dogs. It had more dogs and a ton more space than the other two sections. Lots of potty station clean up areas and picnic tables to relax while the pups play! We'll definitely be back! read more

This doggie park is great! There are metal "picnic type" tables spread along the one side of the park that's shaded with trees. No grass, but mulch. There are also waste bags and containers (that unfortunately some owners don't use). The area for small dogs is small and doesn't seem to be used much. There are 3 gates to get in and out - good for safety and security, but you have to close them behind you. There is a splash pad that works on a timer that you can set. I can't figure out how to turn on the water to fill the dog bowls though. Anyone know? Although I haven't been at night, it seems to be well-lit.m There is also a walking path around the outside of the park. The people who go there are nice. Socialization for dogs and their owners! My only complaint is people not picking up after their dogs - even though the bags and waste disposals are provided. read more
