I love this place! I grew up in RI, my husband in Boston and now live in Seattle area. However, my daughter recently moved to NH and we go back to New England a couple times a year. McKinnon's is a stop for steak tips and many other things (lobster pie, scallop pie etc.) From the store to my daughters freezer... then on to the plane back to Seattle. We stock up and enjoy until the next time we return! We use to buy our tips at other places until we realized this store is very close to my daughter's place in Seabrook. We've tried them all, but the original is our fave marinade. It's our go to spot now. It has everything, and it's all quality products. read more

So it's a fairly large family market, a lot of great quality goods here. If I'm in the mood for some steak and I wanna get the food stuff, I come here to McKinnons. There is occasionally prime steaks, which has higher marbeling then choice or select. I got a couple of New York strips and we're they awesome! Very tender and juicy. Made it on the stove in a skillet with butter, garlic, and rosemary. Only sin was overcooking my bad, I stepped away too long. For special occasions I'll come here for steak. read more

I love McKinnon's. Their meat department is as good as you are going to get anywhere in eastern Mass. They're responsive, have great product, and are always happy to special order. They can get _anything_ you ask for and they've never failed me. If I have a BBQ that I'm hosting... there's no other choice. It's right off to McKinnon's. For fancy stuff - like the center-cut Tenderloin of Beef that I ordered today - woo hoo! Their butchers know their business. I'm really happy to shop with them and give them my business. read more

Not so great. For a butcher, this place is really lacking. Tough steak tips and chicken that is consistently rubbery.

Have an excellent selection of proteins to choose from. Prices are competitive. Beef is expensive everywhere and they are no exception. The one occasion I had a problem with my deli order the manager handled it very well. They have a large assortment of prepared foods I have never tried. read more

McKinnons is a great store with great employees. The meat is the best around and when you ask for help it is given with an excellent attitude. Sadly this is how many stores used to be but the deterioration of customer service elsewhere just makes McKinnons stand head and shoulders above. I recently promised my niece a boiled dinner (smoked shoulder - not corned beef). Since my mother has passed on, I was unsure of the cut I needed (hammy not pulled-porky). I considered no other stores as I needed to trust the advice I got Long story short McKinnons made me a hero... And to boot their prices rival or beat large local supermarkets. McKinnon's has never let us down, until now. We have always gotten our steak tips from here, but our dinner tonight was a disgrace. They were, as my boyfriend said, "goopy," super fatty, slimy, slippery... ick! They left a weird slime in my mouth that won't go away. But I guess this means I can eat more dessert. Updated review 11/13/18 I'm usually a big fan of having self check out lanes and use them often but for this store and this location, the recent self checkout addition detracts from the check out process IMHO. There are more self checkouts than live people manning lanes. I used to avoid Market Basket and shop here for my meats and other items but it seems so chaotic here now I avoid it. Their daytime staff, (the ladies that used to work the registers) were fast and flawless and you would be in and out in no time. Young kids working part-time weren't so great but I could deal with them. Now there are less of all of them and there's just employees standing by watching you scan and bag your groceries with one or two live people for check out. There are constant problems with the self check out process adding to the total check out time. Not the best for customer service in a small store, small town setting. I don't shop here as often anymore. read more

Let's just start off by saying .their legendary marinated Texas steak tips ,chicken , turkey tips and sausage . Are all summertime bbq staples as far as I'm concerned. I live in Lynn but shop at the Danvers store once a month and splurge on all our favorites . Fast and friendly staff ,especially for these tough times . Wish the store was bigger though . Social distancing is tough ,so you have to be quick in there .the chicken salad and boars head cold cuts are top notch . As are their prepared foods ,took a chance with the chicken pot pie and it was fantastic, just as great as Harrows . Other faves of mine are the chicken fingers and and pot stickers , both excellent and probably the best I've ever had . I wished I lived closer ( well maybe not ) but when I do , I throughly enjoy myself to the max . People have been coming here for generations ,and I'm sure more to come . read more

Usually this is my go to place for meats when I want to grill. They also have great prepared items as well. I only had one mishap with this place. I called to see if they had short rib, they confirmed, I arrived and they didn't have any out. I asked the butcher in the back and he put some in a package for me but it was a smaller amount than I was looking for. Oh well, life goes on, its just meats. Their potato salad is my absolute favorite there, and I love that I can buy alcohol there as well! Its a little cramped space wise, especially if its busy, but usually the staff if super nice! read more

Good selection of quality fresh meats, poultry and fish. Decent size produce section. Full deli counter. Not as big as the New Hampshire stores but still has a good selection. The staff is always helpful. From the expert butchers to the cashiers helping me leave. The even have a beer and wine selection. Pretty much have a bit of everything you might need. read more

Went there yesterday for the first time. Huge selection of every type of meat. Bought some freshly ground beef that was on sale. When I say freshly ground, I waited a few minutes and saw them wrapping it and put it out. That's fresh!!!!! Saw some Angus sirloin that looked really good and bought it. Cooked a steak last night. It was terrific. Far better than the meat I've purchased at supermarkets as well as Costco. Great marbling!!! Tender, great flavor. Will definitely go back for more and try some other meats. Staff very helpful, deli staff very patient even though I had several orders of Cole cuts that I needed to get. He never appeared frustrated or gave me the impression that enough was enough and he needed to move onto the next customer. All the Cole cuts were excellent tasted very well. Recently purchased some teriyaki steak tips and grilled them a couple days later on the sell by date. The texture and taste were not good. Usually the steak tips are the best, but it has happened a few times in the past in which the same thing happened. It is usually $20 for a package of tips and I was upset enough to make a complaint online. I received a phone call response the very next business day and the person was very apologetic and listened to what I had to say. The most important thing I learned is that the teriyaki marinade breaks down the steak quicker than their other marinades and it is recommended to cook them sooner rather than later. I will no longer let them marinate for day or days in the refrigerator. They gave me a generous gift card. Great customer service. read more

This place is just terrible. I went there on a Thursday afternoon to pick up steaks and hamburger for my father-in-law's birthday dinner. The meat selection for the steaks was awful. I should have trusted my instinct when the woman next to me commented about how poor everything looked. I finally found what I thought was a decent 3 pack of steaks. I couldn't find any hamburger meat that looks half way decent so I grabbed some tips to make my own. Needless to say, birthday dinner was ruined. The steaks were unnaturally touch. Totally inedible with lots of chewy bits. What a disappointment. This is the second time I've been let down by this store. I won't return for a third. A supermarket steak would have been better than the expensive waste I got. read more

While I think Henry's in Beverly is better because they offer baked goods, a larger deli, and more produce, McKinnon's gets the nod here because they blow away the competition with their butchery. BBQs, card games, tailgating, camping, grillin' and chillin', lunch, dinner, a meal not yet created, I've gone through McKinnon's tons of times to satisfy my carnivorous cravings. They've never disappointed. From fish to tips to chicken to pork to sausage to lamb (lamb tips are the best around), no one does it better. Best part, the prices are good. Friends live down the street from this place, so I've enjoyed their meats on the grill a few times. The meats are always fresh and high quality. The marinated chicken was delicious. The house made sweet Italian sausage was unlike any I've had before, but in a good way. Strong flavors but without the aftertaste that usually turns me off in most Italian sausage. read more

Another New England style market. This quaint market is located in Danvers. It's a bit off the beaten path from downtown Danvers. McKinnon's quite possibly is the best place to buy meats in New England. Other than Roche Brothers/Sudbury Farms, they are the only place that takes the time to provide good cuts and great quality products. Their pre-marinated items are to die for. Other than giving us top notch selections McKinnon's kills the competition with their prices. They know how to balance premium products with price The deli is always packed but they have a great selection of deli products. Their homemade deli salads are great. You can find some prepackaged ones in the display cooler. Don't forget to try their pre-made home cooked meals like chicken parm or eggplant. read more

As everyone is aware, small-market meat producers are where it's at, both in terms of health and safety, but also in terms of supporting a sustainable food ecosystem. McKinnon's, in addition to having beer and wine, has a ridiculously large selection of meats and meat products. It's no Hilltop, but then, it's not trying to be. And for that, we are glad. read more

McKinnon's has a good reputation for marinated steak tips and chicken breasts, and it is well deserved. I purchase from them often, buying not only these two items but also cold cuts, sausages, meatloaf, stuffed chix breasts, produce and other grocery products. I've had two occasions in the past 6 or 9 months where the tips, which are somewhat pricey, were not well trimmed. I had to cut a bunch of gristle off them which was kind of disgusting and also it meant I was overcharged for the edible meat that remained. A solid variety of the most common produce is available at reasonable prices. Boar's Head cold cuts and numerous prepared entrees and side dishes are available to reheat. There is a decent variety of fish, dairy from Richardson's (their milk is excellent!), beer and wine. I can always pull together a decent dinner by visiting McKinnon's for some marinated or prepared foods, special sauces by small, local companies, etc. Service is excellent, parking is good. Paying a bit more to support the little guy is easy when the product and service are so good. read more

Bought a 6 lb prime boneless prime rib for Christmas and it was so tough it couldn't be chewed. I even asked the butcher if it was a good choice and she said the best! Luckily I bought a ham so we were able to enjoy that. I'm beyond disappointed and I've been buying meat here for years and will never trust them with a special roast selection again. read more

My mom talks about Mckinnon's all the time so when my boyfriend asked me where he could get some really good steak that's not from a stop & shop or market basket, I told him McKinnon's. If you are not from Danvers, mapquest how to get there. I would have gotten lost if my phone didn't have google maps, thank god they have a sign big enough that you really can't drive past it. We picked up pre-marinated steak tips, original style and some sirloin strips. Their pre-marinated steak tips were delicious. They sell the marinade too so I may go back to pick it up pretty soon. Went on a beer run for my dad. I got my Licence when i turned 20, so it does not expire for a few years and i am over 21 ( just turned 22). I wait in line with the beer in my hand, when i finally get to the counter i show the lady at the express counter (this was around 5 pm on 9/22) my ID which still says Under 21 until *** 2015. she tells me she can not accept that as a form of ID because it is in that format, i ask her if i can show her my military ID she says no. So because if i am not allowed to purchase it in the store I should not be carrying it , i place the beer on the counter and leave the store. two things wrong with this 1. Kappy's accepts my ID 2. No one is going to show you an ID saying they are under 21 until a certain date and not be 21. P.S the general tone of this woman was terrible. read more

I have never been amazed by any of the meat this place has to offer. I would say it is middle of the road when it comes to quality. Just this past weekend I bought marinated sirloin tips... They were not as tender as they should have been in my opinion. I often shop here out of pure convenience but beware many of the grocery items are extremely overpriced. They always have a lot of people working which is nice and the staff is usually friendly. Also the cut to order Cole cuts it's nice because I can definitely tell the difference of quality compared to Stop & Shop. read more

I love mckinnons for quick trips when I need things last minute, but I don't go there as much as I would like, because the staff can be super rude. Tonight, I went in 10 minutes before close. Yes, I understand they were closing but I just needed 2 things. I was out before close. The woman at the deli said " you people do realize we close at 7 , right?" Like myself and the 1 other person there were a huge inconvenience to her. Then, at the cashier, the two women at the registers were taking back and forth about how today sucked and even dropped a couple of Fbombs while I was standing right there. McKinnons meat & deli selection is actually small by today's standards. But you can't beat the combination of price, quality & service and I've always been able to find what I was looking for. They also have a small produce area & some great pre-made meals & items. Several isles of typical grocery items round it off. Great marinated meats. Their fried chicken looks incredible. On weekends, there a nice older woman standing in one of the corners with free samples. Overall a nice neighborhood butcher shop. It's worth going slightly out of your way. read more

I purchase my large grocery order at Market Basket in Danvers as the selection is huge and I save a bunch of money.....but my meat I buy at Mckinnons. Never have I had a problem. I have a favorite cashier Marie who is wonderful, friendly, and quick. People are so friendly there I feel the need to give them a candy bar...Maybe some of these customers complaining about nice-aties should try to be more approachable. This is their job and they take it seriously. I have always created wonderful tasty dinners with their meats..maybe time to invest in a cookbook! read more
