Our Board of Directors, CEO, Finance Officer, Marketing etc are not able to adequately answer what I consider a reasonable question. Here it is and I've been asking this question for the past 2-3 years and other residence have expressed the same frustration over the same issue long before I got here. "How are our Monthly Fees determined"? What elements/cost factors make up a determination to charge a particular monthly fee (which increases every year)? All we get is "it's complicated." Or some vague well it's, not just square footage, it's other things but they cannot, or chose not, to delineated those factors. Worse yet, if they don't know, we need someone else handling our management. We pay our CEO very handsomely ($250K annually) and to not be able to tell the people paying his salary how they are being billed is unconscionable to me and causes questions about handling of funds. Before signing to live here, I asked the same question and still couldn't get an answer and if I declined to sign, they would just go to the next person on a long waiting list. I had already waited 5 years. So even though I signed, I felt I had not choice if I wanted to live here. Maybe you can get an answer! If so, please Post and advertise.

The turn over of Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants (C.N.A.) is overwhelming and never been seen at our facility before! They need a change from top down and do something to attract and retain staff. A sign-on bonus and retention bonus would be a start. Along with shift differentials for staff working 2nd & 3rd shifts. This is becoming too stressful for current staff having to work extra hours to fill in for vacancies. We've even had to bring in Agency Nurses for coverage. Something we've never done before here at GR.

This is an amazing retirement community. All of the residents are extremely nice and the staff is…read moreamazing. I have volunteered at Carol Woods for almost two years and it has been wonderful. They offer residents a full cafeteria and there are plenty of games and books around the facility. There is also a brand new library that opened in early 2014. If you want to be a resident you'd better get on a waiting list as I've heard the waiting list is about 10 years. It is well worth it in my opinion.

He worked in the Obama administration and also was probably (nobody knows) fired for insubordination by Obama! He's almost as old as this crowd was. Pretty good and fast lecture. As a young guest, I didn't feel that comfortable asking questions. But most of mine were asked by some other old folks. I'm glad I came to the event! The event space was appropriately large and it was filled.

I think yelp isn't the best place to "rate" care. This place welcomed me and has let me had a wonderful experience with my first job. When I went there in January 2026, I had had surgery for hip replacement followed by surgery a week…read morelater for broken femur. I was kept in diapers all the time bc I could not use a bed pan. When PT and OT came in and tried to get me up I would either faint immediately or lie down quickly. Nobody tried to determine why this was happening until after a few days of this happening my PT person started taking my BP and saw that it was dropping extremely low as soon as my head was raised. Nobody did anything about it until I decided I was not taking any more of my BP meds. Nurses kept bringing it in and I refused to take it and after 3-4 days I began to be able to sit on side of bed and eventually get up but would still have dizzy spells. Nurse practitioner came in one day when some of my family was there and told them that I needed to take some BP meds and she cut out one that I was taking and cut the other two in half. I then began to improve so that I could do both PT and OT. NP in her report said that I was incontinent! What was I supposed to do? I had no choice but to use the diapers. When I could get out of bed FINALLY, I could use the toilet but she never changed the report whole time I was there. My son explained to her why I could not go to the toilet but it didn't matter. Nurses did absolutely nothing besides give medicine and take blood pressures. There was only one CNA for a huge area and they were overworked but nurses would not lift a finger to help. My PT and OT would clean me up, but nurses? No way! Food, meals were terrible. Coffee was not available and breakfast seemed to be right out of the frig. Cold! My son started bringing me coffee in the morning and one of my daughters began bringing my suppers/dinners so I could have decent food. There were about 6 meals, lunches and dinners, that were fairly good but the rest.......? I kept items in my room that I could use for breakfast and lunch. My room was freezing but was told that maintenance couldn't do anything about that. I had as many as 5 blankets to keep me warm. It felt like a draft was blowing over my face. When I got to the place that I could sit up I could see trash in my windowsill right beside my bed. After weeks of being there through extremely cold weather, including the big snow that came on January 31/February 1, I told my PT person to look at the trash inside my window. We both saw that the top window had been pulled down about an inch and wind was coming in through that window right across my bed and face. He closed the window and shut off the cold draft blowing over my face and bed. People were using blowers outside my window and some of that trash was blowing through the top and middle part of the window. The window was not cleaned the entire time I was there from late January until end of February. Even though cleaning people came in couple of times a week my room was never adequately cleaned - neither bedroom nor bathroom. My primary PT (a very nice, caring, young man) and OT (a lovely, sweet lady) were wonderful and a couple of CNA's were really nice but as I said previously, they were extremely overworked with only one on duty per shift. The night before I left my favorite CNA was working and I called for her to come into my room. I told her I was leaving the next day and wouldn't see her again. She hugged me twice and seemed really upset. It is a shame that more CNA's are not hired to help take some of the burden off these workers.
