Just horrible. I feel bad for them and would like to give them a Christmas review of good tidings and cheer, but just am unable. Dishonest, rude, and shady. I had to deliver a table as a Christmas present to Silver Spring, and the table wouldn't fit in either my car or my friend's so I called the closest U-Haul in McLean. $19.99 for a cargo van, plus 59 cents per mile so I was thinking I would pay $45 or less. We arrive, and the U-Haul man parks the van on a downslope to get a gas gauge reading. When my friend points out this would make the gas gauge read fuller than the tank actually is, the man informs us that "it doesn't make that much of a difference." Then the man misreads the odometer, or willfully or mistakenly enters the mileage as 9 miles more than the odometer actually reads--a mistake I notice only during our ride over to Silver Spring. Before leaving for Silver Spring, the man takes 10 minutes filling out the paperwork and tries to run my credit card, and their credit card machine fails. My friend asks him how much longer it will take, that we have to get on the road to get the table to Silver Spring. He doesn't look up and replies, "It takes what it takes." We deliver the table and return the van. The final bill reads $53 despite the fact that the man said that he would deduct $5 because of the mistaken higher mileage in the paperwork. I tell him that the numbers don't add up to $53. The numbers added up to $48. But then the U-Haul man shows the paperwork to a co-worker, or manager, who informs me that the actual bill is $60 because I didn't fill the gas tank, that it was two gallons short. She says that I can take the van across the street to a gas station to fill it or be charged a $4 per gallon convenience fee for U-Haul to fill it back up. Then she tacked on an extra $5 in taxes. Her co-worker and I get into a shouting match, and he informs me, "We know what we're doing." Yes, you do, Billy Joe Bob--ripping people off and being disrespectful. Truly, a nightmare. These folks will nickel and dime you all day. Avoid these shysters at all costs. read more
