She was so helpful and patient through every step of the way and really helped me manage all the details I needed to process with the family. She was also so compassionate and kind in every conversation both with me, and my friend who was obviously more distraught. Any time I called the mortuary and Tanya wasn't available, both Darren and Hollis always offered to help and always relayed information back to Tanya. There wasn't a single time I was expecting a call back and didn't get one. They always followed through. Rodrigo was very professional, kind and understanding and he took the time to answer all of our questions. Pedro (I believe that was his name) was also very kind and compassionate when I met him at the hospital and at the San Diego location. Nicolás was beyond kind. He had the honor of taking my father's casket to church and to the cemetery and helped us a lot with everything. Everything went well and all the staff was amazing. The only small complaint I have is that there's no light outside the Escondido location so once the services were over we were left in the darkness. I write this having been a guest of a recent funeral service at Silver Lining Cremations…read more Located near the Auto Park in Escondido, the outside of the building is quite simple and nondescript. It's not a location that you might expect to find a cremation place, as it's quite industrial/business park-ish, but inside is very clean, new, modern and tastefully decorated. When we entered the building, there was a small lobby with a couple of chairs, a coffee table and a slim table where flowers and a guest- book were placed, along with a TV screen with a photo of the deceased. Guests and family lingered here until we were allowed to proceed to the service room at exactly the time of the service. The lobby isn't very large. I would have preferred to have been able to go and take a seat in the service room earlier. (There were approx 28 attending in our case). Through double doors off the lobby, the service room is pleasantly decorated with dark collapsible chairs, a large carpeted rug, muted dark blue/grey paint, a curtain and 2 TV screens for displaying photo slideshows. The people who spoke in the service were provided a microphone. Quiet music played. There was a slight technical difficulty with the slideshow, but it was solved in a few minutes by a staff member. At the end of the ceremony, two staff members escorted the coffin through the curtain at the front. We then filed into another small room where we had refreshments, provided by the family. Street parking was available on Aldergrove Ave or S Andreasen Dr. There is a small gated lot behind the building, but I believe this is for staff and close family. I did not see any information on their web site about parking, but this would have been useful. A virtual video link was provided for family and friends who couldn't attend, but the camera wasn't very close and the audio wasn't the greatest, which was disappointing. I have witnessed 3 other funerals (in other locations) virtually and they have been better. The owner was not particularly present and maybe she does this to give the family space, but I personally would have liked her to have been more present and sort of act as a coordinator/conductor for the time we were there. Just my personal take. I hope this information is useful for anyone planning a cremation or attending one at Silver Linings. It is a convenient and intimate location for those in San Diego's North County.

With her being out of state and her father's death being health related he was released to my custody. The only mortuary I could think off was the one in Poway that I have passed for 40 years. As a nurse helping prepare the body for transport was nothing new. This time it was an honor to stay and see our dear friend off. We told his daughter the stories we shared while waiting for another transporter to arrive. Everything was done with dignity and respect. The driver said he noted that his young daughter would want to see him so he could be prepared. His daughter arrived that night and call the mortuary. She said they told her they were very busy and had a lot of deceased coming in. She was told she could come to say her goodbyes on Monday morning. Having just lost my father recently, I to flew in and need to say good bye to my favorite person on this earth, my dad. He suffered from Parkinson's for the last five years. When I went to him he never looked better. He looked so honorable and sharp ready for god. I was so comforted by how good he looked and it was not a viewing it was just me. This young daughter would not have the same experience I had in Virginia. Malissa told her he was in his natural state. How would anyone not in the industry know what that meant. She said he had blood in his nose and blood coming from his ears. His face was smashed. I unzipped the bag to hold his hand, it was covered in blood. She was hysterical. This is the last image she has of her father. Beyond heartbreaking. I called Malissa to say WTF. Malissa she told his daughter what state he was in "natural state" said she said he was cleaned up. His daughter will never unsee what she saw. Because I supported her going to see him I feel guilty that her goodbye was nothing like mine. NOTHING. I looking up trauma therapist in her home state now. Flipping through the folder Poway Mortuary gave her with hand written notes about an open casket, flowers and merchandise. I feel sick. In Virginia this is done on a separate day. Do not send a young person there by them selves. This place or any place for that matter. No one should go alone ever. It's overwhelming enough. You grow up fast when you lose a parent but she is and always will be daddy's little girl.
