Ask any muscle head and they'll tell you the Y is for pussies and old people! Granted, there are plenty of "Old People" who utilize the Y, however, it's still a pretty cool place, in my humble opinion that is. I know, I know, I'm "Old," so you naysayers can rest your case. Nevertheless, it's clean, it's family friendly, it's affordable, and I really dig it! They have the basics, to include free weights, and their cardio equipment is top notch with pretty large video screens on every unit. An outside pool come summer time and a plethora of fitness classes you can get in on. Hey, they even have free daycare for members, so what excuse are you gonna use next, huh? If I can continue to keep getting my fat butt in their fairly regularly I might even offer up some before and after photos courtesy of the Y, but don't count on it. The staff is wonderful, but the facility could use some love. The women's locker room needs a deep-clean, and the seasonal pool area is in desperate need of shade structures. The fitness area is sufficient for volume of people there most of the time, and people are polite about not hogging machines. Child watch hours are a bit of a pain to remember and change occasionally. Parking lot rarely gets full during the week. Maybe my standards aren't over the top but this place seems fantastic to me. The staff made me feel at home from day one. People there are respectful. Facilities are clean. It's not been crowded when I've gone (after work hours). And they have nice treadmills, reclining bikes, and uprights. I'm all about the cardio but less picky when it comes to fancy frills like hot tubs and the like, so maybe that's why I'm happy as a cricket at the McLeod Y. (I know they have way more services than I'm taking advantage of, too, so hoping to try one of the classes soon... ) read more

I love the convenient location of this gym, however, I don't know how much longer I can continue to justify paying $30 a month for close to nothing. They have a small workout room with old equipment, a few classes in the studio, and they don't even own the pool anymore which means members can't access it. Also, the hours have been weird since Covid and they often close quite early. I really want to love it here but I don't see anything that is worth the $30 (a significant increase from when my family first joined) when I could pay less for a gym that offers much more. read more

I love this YMCA!! We have a family membership and we love the price! I even cancelled my Jazzercise because they raised my monthly withdrawal without telling me:/ Luckily for us now we can work out at this gym as a family, take as many classes as we want and go swimming together:) All the staff and instructors are awesome! They always have a smile on their face and never fail to welcome you;) Carson! Cycling instructor Frank is awesome! Tue. & Thur. and love the new Keiser's! Body Pump instructor David was nice, and water aerobics class with Amber in the summer was fun:) Oh, can't forget Zumba-I love this class on Tuesdays with Cynthia. I also love that they have a water fountain in the gym, and the one in the exercise studio has a filtration handle! The gym also has ceiling fans for added comfort and all the exercise rooms as well:) *The other gym doesn't :/ I also love the mini lockers they have with a key! Last but not least-the people here are not snobby or just hanging around the machines lol--We come to work out and get healthy!! read more

I trained there for 8 sessions with Mark LeClair. He told me I was good to train by myself after 8 sessions only to hurt myself because he did a horrible job training me. I have had back spasms and issues for two months now. I had never had back problems ever before. When I confronted Mark, he didnt care and called me a child. My back is now in pain and I highly recommend not training with him. If he would have been honest upfront I would have never hurt myself. I put my trust in a trainer who only cared about making money and not helping his client. read more

Great classes. Awesome instructors. Easy, laid back. Yoga classes are great. You have to try the cucling class. Classes are an hour long. Some insurance companies will cover the cost of membership. read more

I came here on labor day because the other Y in town was closed. Nice space. I would have loved to see the view but the blinds were closed.

If I could give it a zero star, I would. By FAR the worst trained lifeguard staff. Two of my kids nearly drowned in their pool, all within a month of each other. The first was on the first day of swimming lesson. Being a child at 5 years old, his arms got tired from holding onto the wall while the instructor were giving lesson to another child, thus, giving that child his full attention. My child let go of the the wall and went under while the lifeguard (no further than 15 feet away) was totally oblivious (he was too busy looking cool in his sunglasses on a cloudy day). A parent of another child happens to be nearby and saw that he was in trouble and reached down and pulled my kid up. Needless to say, he no longer wants to be in the water. We didn't make a big deal out of it because we understand that sometimes things happens and mistakes are made. That was nearly a month ago. However, today, his twin brother nearly drowned as well while the lifeguard and another YMCA staff member were busy talking to each; not more than 7 feet in front of them. Let me repeat, IN FRONT of them. The instructor was giving my boy a lesson and another student decided to jump from the wall towards the instructor while he's giving lessons to my boy. As a natural reaction, he immediately responded to her and let go of my boy and forgot about him. I'd expect the on-duty lifeguard are trained to catch things like that; but, obviously not. Even after I yelled out and my wife ran over, the lifeguard and the staff member just stood there continued talking to each other, totally oblivious to what's going on. The instructor then snapped and pull my boy up. Yet, the on-duty lifeguard and the staff member were still talking (no clue whatsoever). I am not a lifeguard, nor has ever been trained as a lifeguard, but, clearly can see a lack of discipline and, perhaps, even a lack of training on the part of the lifeguard and staff members. I've made a formal compliant at the front desk, but, doubt that anything will be done about it; nor anyone will be held accountable. So out of frustration, I'm writing this review and membership has been canceled earlier (for a different reason). Fair warning to parents with young children wanting to take them to this facility for swimming lessons: through personal experience with my two boys nearly drowned at this pool, under the "watchful" eyes of an on-duty lifeguard and staff members; you either need to be there and watch over them constantly; or have them take swimming lessons elsewhere. Because seeing your kids going under, knowing that he's gasping for air, while the lifeguard and staff member stood around talking and not paying any attention is VERY frustrating and disappointing. If you're going to take them for swimming lessons, be there with them and don't go into the gym and squeeze in your a workout for yourself. It's nice to kill two birds with one stone, but, at this particular facility, the one end up dead might not the the birds. We were (once again) lucky that my wife and niece saw it in time. I'm not writing this review to get anyone in trouble, but, rather to bring attention to what's happened so maybe something will be done to avoid it from happening again; and to prevent an actual drowning. read more

A small Y compared to the previous Y I went to in a different state. But there are 2 buildings and 1 is for classes like Yoga and children's dance. It is not crowded during the week after my work hours. I just wish their swimming hours for the public in the summer is more usable because it is quite limited. Choices of classes like yoga or some workout camp are not for the reluctant people like me and easy to make an excuse because it is either in the wee hours of the morning, or during the time of regular job hours or a very limited choices after 5 pm. I still like it though and I try to go once a week. The price is so affordable for the whole family annually. It beats any other monthly payment gyms one usually enroll and not go to. So, I'm not so feeling guilty when I don't go but secure that when I want or need to, there is the Y. read more

Was told that the pool would be covered for swimming this was 2 years ago. Also, they have trainers/staff with attitudes.

This is an OK neighborhood gym.... Not too many weight machines. Not for serious lifters. I also hated the pool schedule during the summer...closing at 6pm on a Saturday was a bummer. Staff for the most part were friendly. read more

A decent range of equipment, however, when a machine breaks down it takes forever to get repaired, and the teens from the HS take over much of the equipment in the evenings. Women's locker room could use refurbishing, or at least a good cleaning. People like the outdoor swim pool in summer, though I hate to think of all those babies peeing in it. But it's one of the few outdoor pools in Albuquerque, and the price of membership is OK. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the classes at this YMCA. The instructors are very knowledgeable and very friendly. There is a huge variety of classes to choose from. There is plenty of space and more than enough mats, hand weights and any other necessary equipment. I am very impressed! read more

This YMCA is awful compared to the many I've been to. It's old, dingy and dirty. Hardly any amenities. No hot tub, no towels, no indoor pool, no decent changing area in the shower room. I sent my son into the men's shower room to shower and change and didn't know that they were UNCOVERef communal showers. WTF?! I don't want to send my child in there! They need to put up some privacy stalls! The only other YMCA around is the Horn "Family" YMCA. and I say "family" ymca lightly. How can there be a family ymca with no family activities?! No pool. No hot tub either. No towels. What is wrong with the gums in New Mexico?! They're all outdated and dingy! My YMCA in my hometown was MUCH BETTER. They had an indoor pool, outdoor pool, splash pad area, water slide, playground, hot tub, wet sauna, dry sauna and amazing to notch work out equipment. These YMCAs need to get with the times and need to change desperately. read more
