I travel all across the country and I go to different Planet Fitnesses in every city that I go to. This is one of the worst Planet Fitnesses that I've been to. All of the equipment is extremely old and fall apart. Every member pays membership dues to keep the equipment maintained and up to date. I have been working out 40+ years and in that time I have worked out at YMCA's, various commercial gyms in different states. I am no stranger to good times and bad in gyms. I don't make a habit of giving reviews unless something is particularly good or bad. Planet Fitness (menaul and Candelaria, albuquerqye) was the most disagreeable experience I have had, mostly down not to equipment or accessibility (pretty good) but to spotty behavior of folks operating the place. I was treated with respect by some but with eye rolls by others, over legit concerns. We have choices where to go - I would recommend against this place.​​ Respect matters. I won't support a business manned by people who 1) arent up to speed on basic responsibilities or 2) disrespect and diminish the concerns of their customers. read more

This place is an awesome gym to go to. It has all the equipment to work every muscle group. And there's plenty of space. From free weights, two machines, to smith presses, I feel like I am able to get a good workout every single time I come here. The staff is very friendly and willing to help with requests. If I could give zero stars I would. My husband and I have been traveling across the country for the past 4 weeks and have stopped at many planet fitness locations along the way and this is by far the worst we have experienced! There are so many things to list but we talked after we left and both had terrible experiences with the restrooms. The women's was filthy and one shower stall was not working. My husband said the men's was horrific! One of the shower stalls had poop on the floor, one was non-operational and the third had big holes in the curtain. Also the shower heads were broken and water was all over the floor in the shower rooms, locker room, etc. There was also underwear and other trash on the floor. When my husband mentioned it to staff at the front desk, the staff member snickered & laughed and made a comment that my husband didn't need to go there again. To top it off when we went to our car after it was apparent that someone had tried to steal our bikes (in broad daylight). We know this is not the responsibility of Planet Fitness, but it's obviously a very unsafe area. read more

For my travel friends: I can't speak for the women's locker room, but the mens locker room is horrendous! The curtains are too short to close, leaving peep holes on both sides, and I have seen the same old underwear sitting in the corner the last 3 times I've been here. Definitely a big spot for cruisers, because every shower and changing stall is taken, (and from the sounds, well enjoyed by your closeted men of ABQ). I'm a tiny trans person who was genuinely afraid of being assaulted. Planet Fitness already has members wipe down or sanitize all equipment after each use. Because of covid the trainer is spending most of his time sanitizing other frequently touched surfaces like door handles. Hand sanitizer is available at the front desk so that members can clean their hands on entering or leaving. Members are encouraged to use every other cardio machine by signs that say "social fitnessing" the members wear masks while working out. Obviously working out in a mask really sucks, and it is hard to drink water, so there are not many people in the gym. The people that do come are mostly doing a lower intensity workout so that they mostly don't breathe too hard or sweat too much. It feels quieter an perhaps a little bit bit more meditative. People walking slowly and steadily up an endless flight of stairs while staring intently at their phones. A few more walking the treadmill like they have been walking for miles. Eyes closed, face relaxed; just endlessly walking. No sprinting here. A few really big guys show up to use the weights. Unlike other gyms, they don't grunt and growl and show off. They just set the weight really high and get on with it. Everyone stays away from everyone else and turns their attention within. It is a little bit like a library in that way. Each person is totally focused on their own task and existing in this public space as if they are the only one there. I should probably give this place 5 stars but I don't really like gyms very much so it is hard for me to be that excited about it. Overall there are no complaints. read more

I joined Planet Fitness at this location. Though I almost walked out because of the person that was helping me. She kept mumbling when explaining things and I had to ask her to repeat herself. In addition I had questions about payment as I did not want to attach it to my bank account. She became combative and I had to ask for someone and the manager came over and finished the enrollment. I've been in a few times and the staff is not that friendly. I am trying to figure out another location to workout at but it may mean driving further. read more

I just moved here from Charlotte and this Plant Fitness is smaller than my old one. This one still has plenty of equipment and I come in the early afternoon so it isn't busy. I don't have to wait on any machines or in the weight area. The staff is friendly when checking in but that's all my interaction with them. My old PF did have a TRX area with kettlebells and weighted ropes, which was nice. Other than that this place is what you expect from a Planet Fitness. Machines and weights. On a side note they do have a hair stylist here which is cool! I haven't seen that before at the gym. read more

I love this gym simply because of the location. It is near our house and near shops. It is like in the middle of everything so basically one of the top reasons why I think this gym is better compared to other PF. This gym also already improved a lot in terms of equipments compared to the last few months that I came over for workout. It is indeed a great motivation if you can see that the gym equipments are complete and items looks new. By the way, the gym is packed at 4 pm onwards, so I usually go in the morning. (Just a tip) The employees are very friendly and will accomodate you right away if you have any concerns. They have a great roomy tanning booth and staff will basically ask you if you want 5 or 10mins session. So its really up to you. They give you options if you think you need more time and they make sure that its safe for you. Furthermore, They have massage beds and chair that are well maintained. So, I perfectly recommend this PF gym to everyone. read more

I've been using various gyms to work out for 25 years, and so when I moved to the area last year, I joined Planet Fitness on Gibson. The equipment is fine and the facility is clean enough... but today I cancelled my membership because of the members who refuse to properly wear a face mask over their mouth and noses... and the staff that's resigned to not enforcing the policy. It seems that the staff is more concerned about not offending the non-mask wearing patrons than they are about protecting the users who actually follow the policy. When I brought this matter to their attention, I received the verbal equivalent of a shoulder shrug and a "what can we do?" In fact, one of the staff named Benavon even went so far as to say "you know, it's only going to get worse in January, when more people sign up after the holidays." If I owned this business and knew about the lack of concern my staff showed for the majority of my patrons, as opposed to their unwillingness to be direct with a slim minorty of my patrons, I'd make changes to my lineup in a flash. Side note: Even members of the staff refused to wear their masks properly. read more

Planet Fitness is franchise based. This location is just poorly managed in all aspects. Water fountains are lukewarm. When the temperature rises outside particularly in the summer, they don't crank up the AC at all-it's just way too hot. The clock is often off timewise and it takes months after daylights savings time has started to get adjusted. On any given day, many machines are out of service and it can take weeks to get them fixed. Out of their 4 upright sitting cycles, 3 have cycling rotations that are off and erratic and difficult to pedal. Staff doesn't police machine squatters at all-those people who use some of the machines to just sit and play with their phones instead of ACTUALLY using the machines. Sometimes they have a trainer checking your key fob at the front desk and he NEVER even engages with you-he doesn't even talk or even say "hi"-utterly rude. read more

The store picked a great time to comment on my prior review, as I'd been mulling over quitting for a couple weeks. When I joined, it was in Las Cruces in a big, sunny, open space. I transferred here when I moved and just never felt at home here. It's dark, it's cramped and it's much busier than I was used to. I felt uncomfortable in there, and I hardly went any more. Kahului's location is filled with wonderful staff. They always smile and greet you, charming, helpful and supportive. After a long time away from any gym, this is a great place to return to the exercise routine. The only complaint I have is in the shower area, it is usually flooded so tread lightly exiting on your way to the changing rooms. Showers are wonderfully hot so it's worth it. So, after a major Family Medical Emergency I was no longer able to keep paying the membership at this Planet Fitness. I called to cancel and was told that all I have to do is come in to sign something and I wouldn't have to pay any fees unless I were to resume my membership with them. I just came in and was told that a bill has been accruing for months and that they won't stop adding to that bill until I pay the balance I owe them. They won't even allow me to cancel my membership so I can stop adding more to the bill I already owe. I'm drowning in medical bills and I think it's really horrible that this place is basically screwing me out of my money when I didn't sign any contract saying I'd be a member for years or anything like that. $11 month (with fees and tax)!!! It's clean and sanitized. I have witnessed the employees cleaning and washing the equipment using bleach water. A range of people, from high school to senior citizen. There are quite a few people that exercise here that are attempting to get physically fit. I saw a man in a wheelchair working out the other day- kudos for that. It's $11 a month!!! Went in with my wife and spoke to Destiny and she was amazing! She is the definition of quality customer service. She explained our bill and helped us sort things out so we could start attending the gym again on a regular basis. Warm water in the drinking fountains. Lighting is like a Siberian gulag. (That's a Soviet prison for you unworldly types.) Yes it's dark and spooky in here. Lighting is super uneven too so some people are working out in spotlights with that terrible harsh shadow and other machines are literally in the dark. Awkward layout: everything feels crammed into a long skinny dark hallway, and Cardio machines face the strength machines so you always feel watched when using them, unlike some other gyms like Gibson that have a much better layout. I have been going to a planet fitness for a few years and it is fine. Nothing special but fine. I have been putting my account on hold due to the pandemic, and finally decided to temporarily cancel until it is safe. I was told I have to cancel in person or by certified mail-- both things that require unnecessary in-person contact. I was essentially told that despite the pandemic, I must jump through hoops or they will continue to bill me. Though I remained polite the entire phone call, I was finally told I was awful and they are glad to lose me as a customer. I then found there is no recourse I can take, and they are independently franchised. It is so irresponsible to require an in-person cancelation during a pandemic, and I am shocked this is allowed. I am further shocked at the lack of empathy or the indifference about customer retention. Yes, I was canceling-- it was intended to be a temporary cancelation due to a pandemic. I planned to resume when possible. Not now-- Don't go here. Trust me. It isn't worth it to deal with these people. read more

She is an asset to this gym and she has made significant changes and improvements to the gym and staff. She goes out of her way to assist my needs as well as my daughter's needs. This gym is the best. Everyone that works here is super cool and really nice! They're always in a good mood even at 6am. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the recently got brand new equipment (cool!), but it took away my favorite machine. Other than that it's awesome. They keep it clean, the massage chairs work great, they have a hair cutting place and a nice black card member area. If a machine is broken it's fixed in just a few days. I definitely recommend the 20 dollars a month you'll pay. read more

My continuing review of Planet Fitness locations - this is in comparison to other PFs, NOT other gyms! See my initial review of PF, it has what you get and don't get. Location is very good in that it serves a pretty wide radius in the center of town. Parking is a little tight during busy times but you can find some, you may have to walk a little (c'mon, get some exercise). Front desk is friendly. They recently remodeled parts of the facility to add more privacy to those using the massage chairs/tables, tanning booths and barber. Lighting is no longer lacking as new and more lighting has been installed. Plenty of cardio machines (like all PFs). Sufficient dumbells and other weights for slow periods but, when it's busy, you'll struggle to not be sharing. TVs all along wall, choose your show and there should be a cardio machine available nearby. Overall, a decent PF and my new home base. read more

Worse experience ever. I stuck with the membership for the year even though I went twice! I called to cancel and had to come in and hen charged me a renewal fee! I call bullshit. Then when I asked to have it refunded and noted how you can see that I have been in over a year and still got the run around! They won't let me speak to a manger. Poor form! read more

I usually work out at the Planet Fitness off of Golf Course on the westside...clean and machines are updated and fixed right away if broken. I had started going to the Planet Fitness on Menaul twice a week due to work. Oh my goodness, the difference between the 2 gyms is astonishing. The Menaul Planet Fitness is dirty with hair balls in the corner of the women's lockers room; the water fountain is not cold; machines stay broken for months as do the paper towel machines. It is hot outside and it looks like homeless people use the gym facilities to shower and then get out of the heat...no problem with anyone using the facilities but to sit on the machines for hours so you can watch T.V. is ridiculous. DO not tell me to notify a manager...not my job. Managers or company higher ups need to do their job and check their gyms out. Yuck ; hard pass on this gym. read more

I cancelled my membership with Planet Fitness two years ago. I went in person and signed all the necessary documents. Then suddenly I started getting my credit card charged again. I called and complained and cancelled again over the phone. The charges kept appearing. Then I went to my bank and discussed filing a fraudulent charge report. Instead, I just got a new credit card. Now they are calling me saying i need to pay the annual fee and that my account is delinquent. When I said my account was cancelled twice they asked for the receipt from two years ago....which I don't freaking have anymore. At least now they have finally sent me documentation that I have canceled. read more

A very expensive bag was taken from my car during my work out and when I called the first time to report it they informed me there were no cameras and they weren't responsible for what happens in THEIR parking lot. Later on in the evening my boyfriend went in and they informed him differently, stating they do have cameras. They gave me a number and when I was in contact with them they proceeded to tell me nothing body approached my vehicle but me during the time of my gym visit. IMPOSSIBLE! I left the bag in my car when I went into the gym and when I left the gym it was gone! How is there no footage of someone taking my belongings from my vehicle?! Having been a member since the Menaul location opened over 2 years ago, here are my thoughts... "You get what you pay for" is especially true at this specific location...$20 per month for the Black Card is a great price compared to typical memberships that allow using any location, hair cuts, the tan beds, etc. BUT... - The barber at this location runs things on her schedule, and not for customer's sake - she will often leave before the end of the posted time, and she often stops taking new people for haircuts 15 - 30 minutes before the posted end of hair cuts. If the posted time for hair cuts ends at 7PM (which is what the sign says), shouldn't she take someone that shows up at 6:45PM? If not, then the sign should clearly say "must be signed up by 6:30PM" to match reality. - The equipment at the Menaul location is very sub-par, when compared to all other Planet Fitness locations (outside of New Mexico). I have been to approximately 15 other non-New Mexico Planet Fitness locations. Boston is the Best! San Francisco is also great! - The music is often very loud...if you like the music, then great!...but if you do not like the music the club plays you have to practically go deaf to drown out the club music...it seems like music should be very low, at most, otherwise people that do not like the music get screwed! Forcing the customer to invest in noise cancelling headphones, blare their MP3 player, or constantly request help from employees is not very customer friendly. - There are a lot of people that go to the gym to talk, and really don't care about their workout...it would be nice if those people were more considerate to those of us that are there to workout and not socialize as your workout...the signs are purely for show and are never enforced from what I have seen...cell phone use happens through out the club often and I have never seen a employee ask the loud talkers or cell phone users to tone it down or move to the lobby area. Cancelling the membership is not an option right now because of work travel requirements and the fact that I do not think Albuquerque has another gym that is anywhere close in price to Planet Fitness that has non-New Mexico locations. read more

Decided to try out this location as I was on a different side of town then normal. Walked in and immediately noticed how clean and well maintained the gym was. The employee created me right away and asked if I had been there before. She gave me a quick layout of the gym and wished me a good workout. It was fairly quite and was easy to move from equipment to equipment without any wait. The Mens locker room was also well maintained. Would recommend this location to anyone. read more
