I absolutely love this place. I recently moved to Oregon from Arizona but every time we came to visit family here, McMenamins was a MUST!!!!! We even considered having our wedding at one of their beautiful locations. Their beers are top notch, especially the Ruby Ale. It has a smooth creamy flavor (I am no beer expert, but this stuff is yummy). If you have the pleasure of going here on a night they are service clam chowder, ORDER IT!!!! I am not a clam chowder fan, and I crave this stuff. Best of all, we came to this location after my wedding reception last year; we had a huge group of people and we were singing rugby songs and the employees were nothing but accommodating. Our orders for beer and appetizers were out to us in no time and they were sure to keep our glasses filled. Three stars for the food. There's better micro-brews too. I can't really understand how/why a thriving outfit like McM's doesn't do food/brew better, but it's on the high side of mediocre. They all are, except for the "Black Rabbit" in Edgefield, which is a consistently good meal. You can expect good service and a friendly place in any McM's, and this one is no exception. It was built in the '70's as a fish & chips joint, and keeps the original Euro style atmosphere. There's a working fireplace in the bar side, and it's in use when the weather stinks, so it gets a workout. Relaxing and comfortable. I am a big fan of McMennamin's in general. What I like most about them is that they are imaginative, relaxed, and their whole biz plan of recycling older buildings and transforming them into interesting and inviting places is just great. We've been to several in the PDX area, McMinnville, one in WA, Bend, and of course both of them here (the one on Monroe is in a new building, but it's got the vibe). Go and stay at one that has an Inn, Edgefield for starters, if you haven't done so. Simply great places, good music venue too. If they could just bring their food and brewing skills up to the level of their facilities and entertainment, they would be unbeatable. They seem to be thriving, anyway, so I guess it works. read more

I give McMenamins a 3.5 (I rounded up for the cozy atmosphere). A 3 for the food and a 4 for the beer. I ordered the Blacksmith Steak Sandwich. the flavors were excellent, but the "steak" was more like ground beef or maybe cube steak and the fries, although tasting good, were on the greasy side. Again, flavors were very nice, but quality of product/cooking were just decent. The beer was better than I expected. Not being a hop head, I stuck to the stouts and porters. The 2 stouts I tried had really good flavor, though a little light bodied. The porter was excellent! Overall, a good experience. Nice atmosphere and good, friendly service. We much prefer this location to campus for an intimate or outdoor dining experience. The service is hit or miss, depends on the night. Mostly open seating on the bar or dining room side. The Ruby beer is a great one! Cajun tater tots are also yummy. Best bet for prices is to hit happy hour. read more

Pretty good - great service and I love the salads, tater tots, and the RC Cola is a nice retro touch . The burgers are good except for the dry almost-crumbly buns. The poor quality buns have made the "burger experience" bad enough that we will likely give it one more try and give up if it is always that way. read more

McMenamins as a whole always has great beer. Food is good here; no complaints. Staff seems to converse more with the regulars than a new face each time I ate at the bar. Still a good spot to enjoy by yourself, a date, or a group of friends. Recommend Ruby for lighter beer, but Terminator Stout is a must for the beer enthusiast. read more

We ordered some happy hour food here, the fries were hot and were served a full basket, the best was the hummus plate which I enjoyed most. The service was excellent, the server kept checking on us and she was friendly and efficient, we were also happily greeted by the bar staff as we entered the Pub and leaving, very friendly staff. I also like the décor especially the signs its fun reading them while waiting for my food, (I like vintage signs) and I like the large fireplace -looks cozy on a cold day. The El Diablo chicken sandwich is killer on every level--that Dark Star mayo, christ--but the chicken breast is about the size of my wife's clenched fist. 5-6 bites in and I was out of chicken still with half a bun & toppings. If you're familiar with McMenamins, the food at this location lives up to your expectations. The service, however.... The first time I came to this location, my 3 friends and I were not so impressed. Some weird drunk came and randomly sat at our table, which isn't the staff's fault... However, the visible intoxication rule does apply and you shouldn't be serving people until they're THAT drunk. Also, the restaurant was relatively empty, but it took an hour for us to get our food. I was pretty shocked when the waitress didn't even apologize for the wait. Everything about this place was pretty slow. The ambiance left much to be desired. It's like it was trying to be a German pub instead of a McMenamins (and an old and dingy one at that). Ordered a Little Dipper Fish & Chips to go that was about $6, and got ripped off with one small piece of fish and a few fries. I called management back about it, and they couldn't offer any sort of fair reimbursement. Based on the conversation that I had, the management is pathetic and uses excuses rather than assisting the paying customer. McMenamin's always has consistent, high quality. Burgers are thick, tasty and well cooked. Believe it or not, at Block 15 I have suffered through two bad, thin, not fully cooked burgers in the past year. Never disappointing at McMenamin's. And they had frys with lots of different sauces like an Aoli mushroom sauce that was amazing. Likewise beers never disappoint at Mc's. Unlike some of the hipper places in Corvallis. If you want good burgers and a beer, McMenanin's is no kai oi (nothing else like it). read more

It's comforting knowing they have usual pub fare especially when it's late and cold since their kitchen is open until the wee hours and they have a fireplace I can sit next to if that particular table is available. While I wasn't really impressed with what I ordered, the food here is always great! I usually order the Blacksmith's Steak Sandwich; and I'm always pleased! I decided to order the Portland Dip, looking for something a little on the lighter side. While it was good, I found the flavor a little bland compared to the blacksmith's, and the turkey was quite dry, and that took a lot away from the dish. It may have been missing their "secret sauce". My boyfriend ordered a beer and the Newton's Third Law, and some wings. He seemed to really enjoy the sandwich, but the wings were phenomenal. An interesting place for a cocktail. Drinks are well-made, the staff really care about this place, and if it's cold there is a fire. In the summertime, the outside seating isn't bad. However, it's continually understaffed- so the service you do get can sometimes be wanting. Food- it's OK. "pub" food, which does change seasonally. Burgers, salads, soups. 1530 hrs, asked if we could sit outside as we had our dogs without question was told yes. Even though i was wearing shorts and it was mid 40s out. Margaritas, yes please. Grilled ham sandwich, gyro. Fries. Crispy fries, delicious gyro, even if it was pre seasoned, pre sliced meat. Ham sandwich was amazingly delicious with carmelized onion and apple butter. Every McMenamins to which we go for food, we have yet to be disappointed with our choices. I rarely every leave reviews but with how horrible my experience was, I needed to share. Avoid this place! Worst service ever. Went in there today for lunch and we finally left after waiting over 30 mins after ordering and nobody acknowledging us. Watched everyone who came in after us get their food before us. We can clearly hear the kitchen staff talking about how they gave our order away. Told the waitress we were leaving and she follows us out in the parking lot to tell us we can take it to go. Asked to speak to the manager and she claims she was. If she was, I highly suggest getting a new manager, she was extremely rude. Service was horrible and staff doesn't understand what the meaning of customer service is. read more

We have gone to McMenamins regularly since coming to Corvallis over 20 years ago. It is our regular 'go to' place on Sundays as well as other times during the month. The last several weeks I have noticed a change. I love salads and often order a side salad or full for dinner. Due to new food management the size of salads has been cut in dramatically. Tonight's 'side salad' was literally 3 forkfuls. And this is after adding a dollar to sub out fries! When I asked the very nice wait person she confirmed my observations of several weeks. Yep - smaller, skimpy salads to (I assume) save money. McM's still makes great sandwich's but at $15 a sandwich, can't I get a reasonable dinner salad?? What is the cost of lettuce these days?! Anyway the greens are important to me and if they are to you as well you may want to choose a different pub in town. read more

McMenamins is one of my favorite places to "just hang out". The atmosphere is warm and inviting, especially if you grab one of the tables by the roaring fire. My husband and I typically go to McMenamins after 3 pm for the Happy Hour specials. Nothing beats a $4.00 cheese burger, $1.00 basket of fries, and a $3.00 Terminator!! For those looking for a more healthy option, I suggest the $3.00 Garden burger or the $2.00 hummus...yum! read more

I agree that this is just another McMenamins. However, this one has better service than the one on Monroe (faster). Plus, it has outdoor seating and if you have never experienced a pint of Ruby Ale in the sunshine I feel bad for you. They recently raised their food prices, putting most burgers at about $9, some sandwiches up to the $11-13 range which I get, but I'm still not too happy about. Good burgers at a fair price. Beer is good but a little pricey. Two locations in Corvallis with very different ambiance in each. I like the decor in the Monroe (college) location but the service seems inconsistent. Outdoor seating is available at the 3rd street (downtown) location, but street noise makes it a pain. On rainy days the fireplace in the 3rd street location makes for a warm and intimate environment. Most people rave about the homemade fries, but I think they are always too greasy and limp. Sometimes their soups are awesome, sometimes just ok. If you want a better-than-average burger with a beer this is the place to go in Corvallis. read more

Went here on a Tuesday evening, came in around 5:30 PM to meet a group of people. A friend of mine was already there and two more people showed up later (we were expecting a big group, and were planning to stay for a long part of the evening to watch a major TV event). It took the server about 15 minutes for us to get her attention, since we wanted to grab some Happy Hour food, and then she took three of our orders but stopped at the fourth person and said, "I can't take any more food orders." My friend eventually just got up and went to the bar to order it since the service was so slow. This isn't really a problem with the server as it seemed that they had maybe three people working the entire place that evening, but it was a little disappointing. I later ordered a burger, which was very wet and greasy, and unappetizing. I ended up not being able to finish most of it and left it alone. It was one of their specials: stuffed burger with sage and provolone, but I couldn't detect either sage or provolone. Overall it was not good. Cajun Tots were really good though and the beer was fine. The actual TV in the place is small and the volume was barely loud enough to hear over the music. I'm guessing that they're going for more a pub feel than a sports bar feel - just something to keep in mind if you're trying to catch a game or something. I think I could tolerate coming here again for snacks and beer, but I would recommend staying away from the burgers. read more
