I've only been there maybe 3 times. I don't know why I've gone back. Went there the other night and was so disappointed in the menu. Not much choices. I ordered a cup of soup which was yummy, the only reason I gave it 2 stars. I got a burger with cheese and bacon. So huge I could hardly get my mouth around it. And it didn't have much flavor. Fries weren't that great either. My soda was flat. My husband got pork sliders for an appetizers and he said the meat tasted like it was microwaved. He got a burger too, which he thought was just 'ok'. And he had a beer. Our bill came out to $45, $50 with the tip. I would have enjoyed a Big Mac more and it would have been cheaper. Awesome! The interior is sweet, just like many of the McMenamins Pubs up north. It has a European vibe that makes the experience quite fun and joyful. The food is spectacular and the beer delicious. We stopped in before happy hour and got some of their delicious soup and sweet potato fries. We weren't disappointed. Our server was very friendly and service was fast and efficient. I've always been a fan of the food and beer lists and McMenamin's and this one didn't disappoint. It's by no means as modern as other Mcm's in Oregon, but I like that; the chain is great about trying to keep the original charm and eclectic nature of the sites it buys, and this one is no exception. I had the Tuesday burger and brew special: burger was great (definitely hand molded, cooked exactly as asked), fries were good, staff was very attentive and helpful. This is a great pub located in the middle of Corvallis. One of two McMenimins in the area. Distinctive decor makes you want to take a picture of the entire place. Welcoming staff with great service. Service was attentive and appreciated. Food was prepared accurately, served in a timely manner and was very pleasing. I ordered the Happy Hour House Burger. The burger was good. In the spirit of the original jolly old elf and his nocturnal ramblings, McMenamins brewers have created a namesake beer, the Kris Kringle. I ordered a pint of this toasty caramel and fig flavored holiday seasonal delight while the pub still had supplies. The ale's complex hop varietal did not fail to deliver the gift of intense hop flavor and aroma, perfect for the Holidays! It complemented the house burger well. I've tried other Winter Ale's and Kris Kringle pales by comparison. I thought the prices were decent for the time of day. The story behind McMenamins is very interesting and I am glad they are restoring old buildings and creating such wonderful decor in a pub and eating establishment. The prices aren't way out of line and there aren't a ton of pubs/restaurants in the area with outdoor seating that are warming and plentiful. Sadly, if you love the atmosphere and ambiance this place is available for outdoor dining, take-out and delivery only at the moment. But under the well constructed tent McMenimins still ushers out a surprisingly impressive setting that fills the limited space pleasantly. read more

We are new to Corvallis and were excited to try take-out from McMenamins on 3rd. I ordered the Portland dip with regular fries. The fries were understandably a bit soggy after the trip home, however they were about the tastiest I have ever eaten! The Portland Dip was very tasty, too. Unfortunately the sandwich was largely bread, relatively little turkey and mushrooms. I ended up removing half the bread to have a better meat to bread ratio. For a $16 sandwich I was expecting more turkey. My husband ordered the cheeseburger. He said it tasted good but it was pretty bright pink in the middle. No one asked us how we wanted it cooked, so I assumed it would be medium well. He said it was OK, but I would have had to take it off the bun and cook more at home it more before eating it. Will give them a try again but not for take out. Would love to try the fries when they are freshly cooked. read more

Before McMenamins became a hipster destination, they had small places like this. They have great pub food, and it's cool to see a place with the Tudor look outside of Ashland. They have standard pub grub.... but it's done great. This is one of Corvallis' older restaurants. It's remained a standby. But after taking our seats at this restaurant we always comment "Why didn't we just come here first?" The place is warm, comfy and has a relaxing European pub feel. The staff has always been attentive (but not over bearing) and the food above average and reasonably priced. I often greatly enjoy the new monthly specials and make it point to come back, before the end of the month, for more. No, this place isn't as hip and trendy as other Corvallis establishments, but pretension has never really been my thing. I'm a fan of the McMenamin pubs and, as a passport holder, I've eaten at quite a few. Been to this one several times because it's convenient, but never got truly good vibes. Tonight my 1/2 tuna sandwich came with a cup of African peanut soup that I could not eat. It tasted like gravy that hasn't had enough flour added to properly incorporate the fat. Ok, we all miss a beat once in a while. But when I mentioned it to the waitress she acted as if I'd just told her something embarrassing. She simply said "Oh" and walked away. The lead host later came over and offered to replace it with a different side. Nice gesture and I accepted a salad. But when he cleared our table, he said that if I had asked for a sample before ordering he wouldn't have to throw the soup out. Really, was that snarky comment necessary? McMenamins aren't known for their consistency, so I don't expect it. My experience here though was a disappointment. First, I waited for 10 minutes at the "Wait to be Seated" sign without a glance from the server. He then smugly walked up and turned the sign around to the "Please seat yourself" side without apology. The order was taken quickly, but the food took a near HOUR to come. I love the atmosphere of this place! It's dark, warm, and rarely too busy. The left side of the restaurant has a full bar and fireplace, the right side has booths for diners and there's outdoor seating when the weather permits. The building used to house a fish and chips place so the architecture is that of an old British pub. The beer is the standard McMenamins fare, and so are the prices. Happy Hour is from 10-midnight Sunday through Thursday. The drink prices aren't that great of a deal, but the food is. Four bucks for a burger and fries is pretty hard to beat! Their salads are good, the cajunized tater tots are awesome, you probably couldn't go wrong with anything off their menu. Add a terminator stout on nitro and you'll be good to go! read more

Atmosphere and beer are this restaurant's strengths. The previous reviewers are absolutely correct in that the service is very, very spotty. Not rude, but preoccupied. The atmosphere is truly European pub, with low, low ceilings and a fireplace you could roast a whole hog in. Very snug seating and dim lighting, it reminds me of the Three Broomsticks or something. The food is worth writing about. Fancy pub food, with Grass-fed beef for meateaters, artisan-style buns, Tillamook cheese, etc. Everything is a bit better than usual. The hummus plate is one of my favorite things at this spot. They serve RC cola which is a treat. You can also get it as a Roy Rogers which is even better, with free refills. read more

Like having your middle age dad pick you up from high school in a minivan blaring Jim Croce... What a weird vibe this place has. On the outside, weird old school German architecture. On the inside, similar. Decorations? A mix between old brew pub and hippie schlock. I have to say, I don't get it. I don't get the theme at all. It seems like it was slapped together by the owner's teenage daughter who was "Like, totally gonna be an interior designer one day." It sits between old world charm and groovy Gen-Xer, achieving neither. I liked the fact that when I ordered "A Coke or a Pepsi" she asked if "RC is okay?" It;s cool that they broke the mold here. The waitress was nice and swift, if unremarkable. I didn't think the service was bad, but it wasn't stellar. I ordered a burger and tots. My food was brought quickly. I noticed right away a large pool of juice under the burger. Indeed, when the picked up the burger the bottom of the bun was completely soggy. I like a moist burger, but this was a little crazy. There's no other way to explain this other than to say my burger leaked. I made the decision to not put it down, ever, until I was done. I kept to that promise and only cleaned off my dripping hands when the whole thing was gone. It was, without question, the one defining characteristic of the sandwich. Flavor-wise, it was above average but not fantastic. The tots were delivered extra-crispy, which I dig. I can't say I'd recommend the place. I've heard good things about the beer, so maybe that's worth the effort. But Oregon has more than enough great micro-brews, I don't need to venture here to get one. Corvallis has a lot of better places to eat in the area. If McMenamins was in Lebanon, it'd be the best restaurant in town. In Corvallis? It's somewhere among the bottom. read more

Love the Ruby and the Cajun tots, but this time I was feeling vegetarian (tho I'm most definitely not) and ordered the Bean & Seed local gyro. OMG drooling. It was huge and incredibly delicious. I think the tahini sauce put it over the edge but it reminded me of the German doner kebabs that I have been tying to find since I got back from Germany almost 2 years ago. Epic organic burgers here. I'm not big in the organic band wagon but these organic burgers are a must have. They are so amazingly fresh. They have deals everyday of the wk so I got the burger with egg and bacon on it and fries and a draft beer for $12.50! Fresh cut fries too with organic portland ketchup. Every McMenamins is a delight for me. From their hotels to pubs. I can't get enough. I feel lucky Corvallis has two now. But I usually visit the 3rd street one. It used to be long waits and now with many other pubs opening up in Corvallis, McMenamins has room. Yay. They were the first and I'll always remember that they set the standard that some people stole to open their own pubs. The food is always good. The burgers are tasty and I love the sauce. The fries are hand-cut, but sadly, they recently changed them slightly and now they are a bit bigger. GO back to the ORIGINAL pleasssssssssssssssse. The beers: the best. Ruby, Hammerhead, Terminator. The list goes on. You can even get togo bottles or fill up a jar with the yummy stuff. I love the old signs and music playing. The booths are comfortable. The wine made up at Edgefield is divine. The environment is warm and inviting. I would recommend this to many friends and family. Keep up the good work. This is a five star pub! read more

I really used to like this place.... But have to say the recent experience here was the worst I've had. There was 4 people working the bar area and it took 10 minutes for anyone to even recognize we had sat down.... finally a gal came over and asked if we'd seen a menu yet. Thought that might be obvious as there was nothing in front of us. Regardless,, shrugged that off and drinks were delivered and a food order was taken. A half hour goes by,, our drinks had been gone for at least 10 minutes,,, still only about twelve patrons in the bar and finally I decided to go up to the bar and order another round. Another 15 minutes of waiting for the drink ordered and watching the drink sitting at the bar for at least 10 minutes the drinks were finally delivered. During this time I watched an employee twirling a towel on his finger,, (apparently he was bored) and the reason it took so long to have our drink delivered was because our waitress was on the phone. So..... I paid and I have to say the bill was delivered promptly,,, I left an appropriate tip equal to the service provided. It made me feel bad to do so as I almost always over tip because a long time ago I put myself thru college working in a bar and have great empathy for service industry people and I always OVER tip because of my past experience in this same industry. Not this time however.. The staff on duty last Friday night (June 3rd) at 5:00pm needs to catch a clue.... Perhaps that is why it was so easy to get a table on a game night. read more

This place had a high pasta dish and spinach salad that was to die for...but the menu changed and now all I get is their big fat chocolate cake. It's the best dessert in town! I absolutely love this place. I recently moved to Oregon from Arizona but every time we came to visit family here, McMenamins was a MUST!!!!! We even considered having our wedding at one of their beautiful locations. Their beers are top notch, especially the Ruby Ale. It has a smooth creamy flavor (I am no beer expert, but this stuff is yummy). If you have the pleasure of going here on a night they are service clam chowder, ORDER IT!!!! I am not a clam chowder fan, and I crave this stuff. Best of all, we came to this location after my wedding reception last year; we had a huge group of people and we were singing rugby songs and the employees were nothing but accommodating. Our orders for beer and appetizers were out to us in no time and they were sure to keep our glasses filled.
