Burger was very good and the fries had the tavern taste. Not as greasy as one would think, but definitely very tasty. There was a large quantity that filled the plate rather than a calculated measured amount. Atmosphere during the day was also good. Me and the trophy wife could sit and talk normal and not have to yell. The staff was great and very polite. Peter took our order and delivered our drinks and was super great. Was a busy day at Squirrels, but we were able to sit outside with only a few minutes wait. Our server was pleasant and helpful. Sitting outside seemed like a great idea. Lots of tables available, all clean and ready for guests. It was a sunny afternoon, but by the time we got our food it was raining tumultuously. Still, our table stayed dry and it was actually rather pleasant to watch the rain. The squirrels burger was delicious and cooked to order and the cheesesteak sammich was reported to be "scrumptious". Came into Squirrels Tavern tonight with a buddy just trying to play some pool and hang out. We didn't even make it past the front door before things went sideways. As soon as I walked in and started heading upstairs to see if any pool tables were open, one of the male employees immediately stopped me and demanded my ID just to be inside the building. I want to be clear that I am of legal drinking age, and providing an ID would not have been an issue at all -- my wallet was simply in my car at the moment. I explained that we were only there to play pool, but he wouldn't listen. Since I had left my wallet outside, I turned to my buddy to ask if he wanted to quickly check upstairs to see if it was even worth staying. Before I could even finish my sentence, the employee cut me off rudely and told me I had to leave immediately if I didn't have my ID. No conversation, no courtesy, just straight hostility. I decided to wait outside while my buddy checked things out. What really sealed the deal was what happened after. My buddy told me that once I left, the same employee told him he acted that way because he "knew" my friend and didn't recognize me -- which makes zero sense because my friend doesn't even go there. That explanation just made the whole situation feel even more unprofessional and honestly discriminatory. The entire interaction felt unnecessary, rude, and unwelcoming. It gave the impression that unless you're someone they personally know, you're treated like an inconvenience instead of a customer. Plenty of places enforce ID policies without being disrespectful -- this wasn't one of them. Definitely won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed, welcoming place to grab a drink or shoot some pool. read more

Love this place already! I stopped in at the recommendation of a friend, on a Sunday. They had a little brunch menu and mimosas and I was super excited to see one of my favorite choices - Poutine! The curly fries I'd heard about were just as good as I had hoped, and I cannot wait to try other things in the menu in the future. From the minute we walked in the staff were super friendly and helpful. I recently learned that pre-Covid this was a cash-only place. That is no longer the case and they do accept cards. read more

Unexpectedly surprised. The place doesn't look like much from the outside but we stopped because of the yelp reviews. Convenient stop between our home and the Eugene Airport. On the inside the place is full of personality, history and lots and lots of squirrel art. I found it interesting and fun. You definitely get a feel of local dive bar but in a good way. We were greeted immediately. I ordered a Bloody Mary to sip while I perused the menu. It was delicious but I was disappointed it didn't look anything like the photo I saw on Yelp. I got very little garnish which is half the fun of a Bloody Mary. We were excited we could order breakfast or dinner. My husband was craving a Squirrel burger and I wanted breakfast. The burger was a classic American cheese burger add ham and egg. It was delicious and well rounded. The breakfast I ordered was the show stopper. I got 2 eggs perfectly cooked a hand formed sausage patty and home fried potatoes and a fresh biscuit! Absolutely delicious! The sausage patties seemed house made as well as the biscuit and potatoes. The cook served our breakfast which is a nice touch. My only suggestion is the biscuit should come with butter and jam. The waitress was busy so it took a while to get her attention my husband had to get up to ask the kitchen which felt intrusive. Not a game changer tho we will go back for breakfast very soon. read more

Squirrels is the local watering hole that keeps on giving. It's a neighborhood bar that is warm and welcoming. It is a safe place for the LGBTQ+ community and, for sure, an institution here in Corvallis. I really enjoyed the hometown feel of this bar. The staff was friendly and efficient. The locals hang out here, and it seems to be a place where your grandparents may be having a beer. Speaking of beer, they have a nice selection on draft. They have a full bar and great bar food. They seem to be known for their burgers, and the veggie burger is also a rad choice that doesn't disappoint. It actually has sprouts instead of lettuce, and that made me smile. You can get some killer fries or tots and a side of ranch, too. Both are cooked to a crispy delight texture. What I noticed most was how well priced things were. It's the most bang for your buck by far in town. This is bar food that keeps it real. It's not fancy, but damn good. Come by and support your community. The outdoor seating is lovely, and you can head upstairs to play pool or other games. You'll enjoy a break as well from the college kids and get to know some regulars. read more

There's parking available on the street. Probably a :30 walk to the stadium if going before a football game. The two employees working, one with red hair and the other with long brown hair, were incredibly rude and dismissive. They acted like making our drinks was a chore and made us feel like we weren't even worth their time. Their attitude was unprofessional and made the experience uncomfortable. To top it off, the drinks weren't even good--if you're going to act like making them is beneath you, at least make sure they're worth it. Absolute waste of money. read more

I had an interesting experience at squirrels. First things first, I walk in and was completely ignored by staff. Wasn't clear if I should seat myself or not. Then, after a snappy comment from one of the bartenders, luckily another NICER bartender came by and poured me a pitcher of beer (yum). I proceeded to order the chicken sandwich...... DO NOT ORDER THE CHICKEN SANDWICH!!!!!!! I'll tell you why. I ate the sandwich and savored every bite as I washed it down with some ice cold local ale. It was alright. Nothing crazy. Somewhere between "brewpub" food and middle school cafeteria food. Everything was going fine- I caught a buzz, played some pinball, went to the bathroom to take a p** (graffiti much..?). I closed my tab, walked out, unlocked my PT Cruiser, blew into my government mandated breathalyzer, and fired up the engine to race home to my humble apartment. Right when I turned the corner on Kings Blvd, it hit me. It felt like a stabbing pain in my lower intestine. I impulsively threw up on my dashboard (not the first time). Then I tried to fart.... but my oh my... all hell broke loose. I caught the smell... I didn't know my body could produce such an odor. There was p**p flooding my drivers seat and spilling over the sides (diarrhea). I stepped on the gas pedal and barely made it home. I got inside and dove into the bathroom. I didn't even bother to turn the lights on. I proceeded to endure the most violent bowel movement I have ever experienced in my time here on earth. Even through the intense napalm-like scent and texture this stool produced, I instantly picked up on not-so-subtle familiar scent of........ The Squirrels Chicken Sandwich. This experience then put me into sort of a psychedelic trance. Once I could not physically p**p anymore, I got up and tried to get some fresh air, my b*tthole on fire and palms sweaty. I stepped outside and walked over to the Harbor Freight parking lot. That is where my memory ended and the security cameras and police reports can tell the rest of the story. Long story short, I was found walking around with my pants off (so shameful) and highly disoriented. Apparently I was very emotional and harassing innocent civilians as I roamed the streets bleeding from my bowels. I was then picked up by police (thank God) and Officer Trevorson graciously nursed me back to health. Luckily it was more of a slap on the wrist than anything- I was released the next day and had to pay a fine (they understood my situation, apparently this is not the first Squirrels victim). So please whatever you do, do NOT order the chicken sandwich at Squirrels. My poor decision resulted in serious trauma that I now receive clinical help for and I can no longer shop at Harbor Freight. read more

This was a great bar with some pretty cool history... well at least what I thought was cool. I was told the bar has been there for more than 40 years.. the owners name is Greg and I hear he's pretty awesome... I came in just wanting a drink after a long day.. around 6pm. It was already super busy for a Saturday night, so I thought, hey why not give this a try.. I sat at the bar, a lady bartender approached me after a minute and she was super nice. Place was pretty well organized. They have a separate walk up booth where you can order food.. and take your check and pay to your waitress or bartender depending on where you sit. Pretty good idea, saves time. But more on that in a second. Anywho, a lady was next to me, we started a nice convo. Food smelled good, I had a beer similar to a Stella, i forgot the name (I know, what kinda review is this? Lol).. buy it was good. So after the first beer and talking, I got hungry. The lady next to me said they have good burgers. I looked at the menu, varying from burgers to sandwiches, fries, tots, salsa, nachos, and DEVILED EGGS (1 for .75 or 2 for $1).. OMG when I tell you that these deviled eggs were AMAZING.... I am not lying. So good, sweet, and flavorful...smooth. I had fries w/ranch and ketchup... and chips and salsa. Ranch was really good too.. can't always find good ranch. Went to the ladies room which is located upstairs. Upstairs has pool tables and i don't know what else.. didn't look too much, I was 2 beers in. Lol! I gave this place 5 stars because overall it was great. Good food, good drinks, cool people, good setup, good pricing, and AMAZING DEVILED EGGS. I will say the only draw back was the cook.. he had a horrible attitude.. and to be honest I really just wanted to give him a hug. I was so excited because they had hot sauce from Belize, which is where I'm from.. I tried to tell him, while making my order.. plus also just speaking about the order, he was very bland and rude to say the least. I asked him why he was acting like that, why are you being like this?, I said.. and he said I'm just busy wanna take a break. Which I totally get, it gets Busy.. but I'm so big on customer service. The other night, my fiancé and I planned to visit our former high school teacher, Mr. Trevorson, but our car got a flat tire and our phones were both dead. It was super rainy out, so seeking help, we entered Squirrels and were initially met by an off-putting guy directing us to the bartender for the phone. Unable to locate the bartender, we settled in to examine the menu. Suddenly, the lights dimmed, and a charismatic man with curly gray hair (it almost looked like he used hot rollers) and glasses strutted down the stairs, introducing himself as the bartender. Despite our request to use the phone, he persuaded us to try his perfected tater tots, claiming they were golden perfection. Some odd occurrences, like a person in a motorcycle helmet emerging from the freezer in the back, added to the eccentric atmosphere. As the bartender delivered the golden tots, my fiancé vanished to the bathroom for a while, and I found myself captivated by the deliciousness of the tots. I borderline forgot I had a fiancé for a second and had fantasies of running away to start a new life with these tots. Mr. Treverson finally arrived, and said that his nephew actually came here quite a bit and had dated a girl who worked here, but that he unfortunately hadn't seen him in a while. I ended up getting a weird feeling that the bartender was almost jealous of how much I enjoyed the tots, and some tension among the staff led us to leave. We made a detour to a Harbor Freight store for a tire fix and the evening continued to feel a bit surreal in the foggy parking lot. I writhed around a bit due to my full stomach and the memory of those golden tots.
