This is the most insanely indulgent experience you can subject your body to. I predict you will lose a year off of your life per doughnut yet proclaim to everyone that it was VERY WORTH IT. Of course, you should never actually put a doughnut in your mouth if you are concerned with things like living and not dying but if you're already committed, make sure it's from McMillan's. So all the basic doughnuts are really delicious but if you're here you might as well go for his gourmet doughnuts, and there is nothing more ridiculous than the Vanilla Cream Doughnut. If there wasn't a busy intersection between my front door and McMillan's bakery...I would be at least 50 lbs. overweight from eating the amazing, light, fluffy, moist, sweet, decadent donuts every morning for breakfast. Creme donuts, boston creme, cherry danish, cherry turnovers, pepperoni bread, AMAZING cakes and cupcakes, the list goes on. Everything here is so fresh and flavorful. I agree that McMillan's stuff is delicious. The petite fours melt in your mouth. The reason I'm giving them a 3 is for the presentation of their sweets. As a cake decorator and pastry chef, I was not impressed with their sloppy icing of cupcakes and their sugar "decorated" cookies. I'm sure the cookies are delicious, but they look like something you'd get from a supermarket bakery. They seem to be pretty traditional, their petite fours were very generic. They had no interesting filling (no filling at all actually) and the flower decoration is the most basic decoration a petite four gets. Also, the teenagers that work there seem to know very little about the sweets they are selling. One girl even said "ew! Why do they do that??" about the red velet cupcakes being iced with cream cheese frosting. First of all...did you really just say "ew" in front of a customer? Secondly, red velvet is almost always iced with cream cheese frosting. Like I said, it was good, but it's nothing I'm going to go out of my way to get to. read more

Ok so they are not the fanciest or prettiest bakery. But their baked goods and donuts always deliver and taste amazing! Their cake is delicious as is their buttercream! Their donuts are great but my favorite are the cider and cream filled ones. They have an orange "cup" cake that is the perfect treat for 2 (or 1). I also love to occasionally indulge in their petit fours... totally worth it. Overall I'm a huge fan and staff has always been friendly. At $1.40 a donut, they're not the cheapest game in town, but I love these so much more than anything I could get at one of the nearby chain shops. I've never been in there during peak/busy hours, but the staff has always been averagely polite to over the top wonderful. McMillan Bakery keeps me up most nights with the promise of a cinnamon cream filled doughnut. The problem is I live in Virginia and that would be a 3 hour drive. While they're still one of the best bakeries in the area, they are skimping on the cupcakes and sticky bun size and icing. My mom is in the grave right now Flippin mad ( god rest her soul ). Went to the bakery on 9/9/21 at around 1:45. The counter help women were absolutely miserable. When the line got long and the women knocked on the window for more help one of the women came out and just stood there not helping anyone..so ridiculous. Also when I asked the women for one of the small orange cakes she snapped at me and said " You mean the CUPCAKE!?" Doesn't look like a cupcake to me! Geez so miserable. I won't be back. For a bakery that makes goodies since 1939, it's just okay and the service is even more appalling, no hello, no smile and no goodbye - except from us who would prefer to drive 30miles away in Swedesboro for their strawberry shortcake which taste better with friendlier staff. When you take the time to make your cream puff with chocolate topping on a nice wax paper cup but your terrible staff just mash it with their grubby hands partially destroying the puff pastry and glop it into a paper bag smearing down the sides, that's exactly the kind of appreciation I felt while in the shop! Seriously, don't make the turn into the Krispy Kreme parking lot, go a little further down to McMillians and get a real donut that doesn't have to be hot for you to choke it down. Overtime someone asks where the best donuts are, about 50 people comment and say McMillans. I have been to this bakery once before and I wasn't impressed with the donuts. I did get them close to closing so I can understand they were not the freshest. But if you know something isn't fresh maybe don't sell it? Just a thought. I have since returned multiple times in the early morning to try the donuts. I can now say with confidence that they do have some great donuts. My favorite by far is the apple cider glazed. Plain glazed were decent and boston cream were delightful as well. I still wouldn't say they are #1 but they are definitely great, just as long as you get them when they are fresh. The ladies that work here work very hard to prove quick and efficient service. I have not tried any of the other baked goodies but have a feeling I will very soon. read more

They advertise that they ship right on the top of their website, but when you call and ask them to ship, the lady acted like I was crazy. Either you ship or you don't. Other bakeries around the country ship using dry ice and they have figured out the packaging. These bakeries also charge a large shipping fee and over night shipping fee. If the customer chooses to pay that, it is their choice. So go figure it out or take "we ship" off your website. read more

I have to give props to the staff at McMillan's Bakery. I stopped in this morning around 8am to pick up some donuts for my work. There was about 4 people ahead of me when I walked in. The lady at the counter was working by herself & said 3 of her employees had called on her this morning. She had the office girl come out to help her as well & what I assume may have been one of the bakers from the back. By this point, there was now about 8 people behind me in line. Although the cake and pastries are delicious, my experience today was quite awful due to one incredibly rude woman with atrocious customer service. When I asked for a vanilla cake, she said, "We have two. One for $19.50 and one for $20.50." When I simply inquired as to what the difference is between the 2 cakes, she replied in her snarky tone "one dollar." I, and the couple standing next to me, just looked at her with stunned expressions. She then added, "There is no difference between the cakes." I then asked, "Why is one more expensive than the other?" She replied, "because one is larger." I then said, " Then that's the difference!" I mean, really????? Great donuts! Wow that chocolate donut was amazing. Massive, somewhat expensive, but totally worth it. Aside from the sweets, the breads are pretty good too. We picked up a few of the fresh made rolls and they were great for breakfast. According to the woman at the counter, you can order ahead any specific items (the pies look great )that you'd like. The only draw back is that the parking lot is absolutely terrible. I'm guessing this place existed before the Wawa next door. I would just park on the street and walk over. read more

As everyone else is saying, the cream donuts from here are to DIE for. I've only had them once, but I most certainly would love to have one again (and again and again). I chose one of the cakes they had on display as my birthday cake last year and it was so good! I'm highly considering coming back and getting another one this year! My mother and I also bought one of their large sugar cookies that was shaped like a butterfly, it was as delicious as it was adorable! The only reason I came back here was because my mother loves their mediocre donuts. The few times I've been here are an absolute nightmare. I feel like it's a requirement to have terrible customer service skills to work here. The old lady with the short hair behind the counter is the absolute WORST. I went two days ago and was completely ignored. I waited 15 minutes while the old lady behind the counter just stood there and never offered her help. When someone finally decided to help the only non white person in their bakery, the woman behind the counter asked the ignorant question if I was sure I could afford two donuts and a cookie because the $9 order would be "expensive" as she said. A statement that none of the other white patrons received in the whole time I was waiting. I don't care if my mother enjoys their bland food, I'm never coming back here. They don't offer a menu anywhere, and when I called they were very unfriendly in regards to telling me about what they offer. Really wasn't looking for any complicated information.
