I'm sure everybody's seeing all the McNamara Florist shops located in Indianapolis, however have you seen the hub they have where they actually get the big orders together over on Ludlow. It is kind of hidden, but the shop also has a wonderful gift area and an area you can pick out flowers that is beyond compare. We love to attend McNamara's annual garage sale in March. It's a blowout of all of the decorations, plants, pansies and more. The warehouse is filled with Christmas wreaths, garland, large vases, and other floral-related decor. I especially love buying their discounted tropical plants and pansy flats (only $5). The prices are incredible- like... dangerously cheap for the sale. Last year, I purchased two car loads of plants. It also doesn't hurt that this place is only five minutes from home. I recently went online to order a sympathy plant for a close family friend. I was concerned about the timing of the delivery due to the services being the next day, but they did not disappoint. The plant arrived at the funeral home well in advance of the scheduled viewing and the plant was beautiful and lush. If you live on the east side or downtown, it's nice to know you can check out a McNamara Florist in your area. However, note that this is the prime warehouse location. The building is huge, but most of it is off limits. However, there is a smaller store/showroom available on site. I think it is surprisingly limited compared to the other McNamaras around the metro area. First, getting here is a bit of a challenge if you aren't familiar with it. If you take Mass Avenue northeast of downtown to 18th Street, turn north and go over the tracks to Ludlow (the first and only cross street). Turn right and follow the signs to the entrance of the shop where there is plenty of parking in their lot. Inside, there may or may not be anyone to greet you immediately. A bell sounds to let the folks working in the warehouse/offices that someone has entered. We were greeted and were encouraged to look around and ask questions if we had any. The woman said to shop around and ring the bell on the counter if we needed anything, so she headed back to her regular job. Since we were the only ones shopping on Small Business Saturday, I can see why she went back to her regular job. I don't think they get that many customers. I guess I don't understand why this shop is smaller. The building is enormous and it seems like they could easily expand into an adjacent room with more items. I grew up in Indianapolis and well remember McNamara Florist from practically every major social event from proms to weddings and the funerals of loved ones while growing up on the north side. Even though I moved from Indy almost 40 years ago, I remembered the name of this company when I needed to send flowers to the funeral of my sister's father-in-law. Their website photos are wonderful and I felt comfortable selecting an arrangement which left the design up to the discretion of the floral designer; I've done this with other florists and had wonderful results. Unfortunately, through some odd fluke of their website, my order was not sent despite the fact that I completed all the screens including giving my credit card information. I left the screen and was never given any indication that the purchase was not finalized. Had I not asked my sister about the flowers, I would not have realized they were not sent. I got on the chat with the store and was told they had no record of my purchase. Strange. They really need to send a message if you somehow leave the site without the purchase being finalized. Other stores do this. Perhaps I keyed in my credit card info wrong and the transaction did not go through and I did not see the message. At this point, an item would have been in my cart. A message telling me that my transaction was not completed would have been nice. The associate in the chat asked if I had been charged and I informed that person that the money really wasn't what I was upset about. I wanted my sister's family to receive a display of my family's sympathy on the day. Nothing now can fix this for us. And no. I did not get a confirmation. I ordered the flowers on Saturday afternoon for a Monday funeral. I looked for an email and did not see one. The next choice was to ask my sister if our flowers were there at a decent interval following the burial. At this point, it was just all too late. Please update your website capabilities. read more

I had never been to the warehouse location before as I was there for the annual garage sale but I was pleasantly surprised at the selection of things that still remained for purchase. Things were kinda pricey but I did find a few things in the midst. To be honest this is the best time to purchase anything from McNamara as I have expensive taste but I love a great deal. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. I took my time and looked around at which time I made my decisions. I paid for my purchases and laughed with the cashier b4 leaving. She told me the sale is annually around the same time at the end of March so I will be looking forward to the next sale to see what treasures I can find. read more

I give them a 0 rating if it was an option. I ordered flowers to be wired for a funeral visitation of a relatives family member in NC. I received a confirmation number for the order. They were ordered about 1 1/2 days prior to the visitation. After checking with someone in attendance, I found out my flowers were never delivered. I walked into my local McNamara location and found out they were never sent. However, my credit card was still charged. This was 6 days after my order., 5 days after the viewing. Long story but after me doing the legwork, being on hold twice, leaving messages and not getting a return call, I was able to have an nice associate place a re order with a different florist. I received a confirmation email. 2 hours later this associate called and said they can't find a florist to deliver to this area. Wow, I went on line and found a list of 30 that will. I called one and ordered directly. My primary complaint is lack of communication and follow up from McNamara when they could not fill my order. Had I not researched it and followed up, they'd still have my money. There only response-"We are sorry." I'm very disappointed in what I thought was a reputable local company. read more

If I could give a negative review here I would do so. Let me share with you my experience with Toomie Farris and the staff of McNamara Florist at the Flower & Patio show. On the first Saturday of the show when visiting their display I asked if they'd be selling any, or all, of their display plants. The answer was yes and for "unbeatable prices" I was told. However, they were only being "allowed" to pre-sell their "large trees" but couldn't mark them sold until the last Sunday of the show (so it wasn't really clear to interested individuals which plants were already sold or pre-sale eligible). I asked about a couple of the plants which caught my eye and was told that they were not pre-sale plants and no pricing was available. (Really, you know you're going to sell these plants in a few days and don't know the sale price...or is it just you won't tell people the prices hoping they'll buy since they made a special return trip?) So the final Sunday of the show rolls around and I arrived mid-afternoon and immediately went to the McNamara display area to find out what the plan was for selling the plants I was interested in buying. Just as I got there a staffer was tagging the sale plants with orange tags and he said the plan was that at precisely 5:00 p.m. they would begin selling plants and not one minute before. I said okay and asked what the procedure would be (i.e. lining up in with first in line first served). The staffer said well no, just come back and get the plants you're interested in and pay for them - adding that 40 people had expressed interest in buying one of the plants I wanted and they only had 11 of that type of plant to sell. My response was that it sounded like they were setting up a process that would result in a "free for all" and the staffer agreed. Another individual and I then struck up a conversation about the sale and I filled her in on what I'd just been told. To my surprise she pointed out that some of the plants that had just been orange tagged for the 5:00 p.m. sale already had the buyer's name written in. So I went to the McNamara desk to clarify whether or not they had started the plant sale early as it sure looked like it to us. I explained why I was asking for clarification and offered to show the staffer what I was describing. What I got in return was a look of disbelief like I was lying, a mumbled no way...picking up a notebook and dropping it back down on the desk with a thud. It wouldn't have killed this person to investigate what I was describing as she was just standing there doing nothing at the time of my inquiry. It was obvious this person was having a VERY BAD day so I remained calm and walked away with no answer to my question...just attitude which I as a customer really didn't appreciate. That's when I should have called it a day and left because it was very obvious that there was absolutely no organization in place for an orderly sale, unhelpful staff and unbelievable sale procedures in place. Unluckily for me it was at this point that I ran into the staffer who I had talked to earlier, showed him the orange tags which had buyer's names written on them as if they had been sold early. He (the only one with any claim to customer service abilities) seemed confused but said well just show me what you want and I'll tag it for you. Before we got any further we were approached by a man displaying a very belligerent attitude who informed me that "he was the President of NcNamara" and "my staff members have said how horrible you're acting" (the notebook thumper and the one who never said a word apparently). He went on to ask me "how dare I ask for special treatment as some of these people had been waiting all day to buy these plants and I wasn't just going to walk up and expect to get preferential treatment" (which I wasn't asking for and I had been there on day one asking about plant sales). He then told the staffer not to tag any plants for sale before 5:00 p.m. even though someone had already done that for other people (using the same type of pen the sale prices were written in). So evidently some people DID get preferential treatment!!! Customer service starts at the top and there are two sides to every story. It was highly inappropriate for the President to approach a customer in such a manner. Too bad I left my cell phone in the car so I couldn't record his rant. Even if I had been guilty of the attitude he accused me of having getting "in my face" accomplished nothing except lost sales and a bad review. And, I got the last laugh because I found the same plants I wanted to buy from McNamara for sale by other exhibitors who were pleasant to deal with, had no crazy "free for all" grab your plants & pay sales plan and charged half the price of McNamara. As a result of McNamara's poor customer service especially on the part of their president I will NEVER purchase ANYTHING from them EVER. Mr. Farris' response is untrue...I left voluntarily. read more

I chose McNamara, a local florist, even though they are pricier than others in town. Was purchasing arrangement for a coworker who was hospitalized from our team. Ordered Thurs 9 AM but earliest delivery option offered (to local address) was Fri. On Friday afternoon, I received call that the bouquet I selected (from their menu for Get Well arrangements) could not be sent to that hospital, since it included lilies. I agreed McNamara to substitute whatever flower they suggested but they could not deliver until Saturday. Really disappointing, since when I ordered Thurs AM I really wanted a Thurs delivery but reluctantly waited until Fri, which got delayed to Sat. Not sure why they advertise a Get Well arrangement that can't be delivered to hospital. At the price premium they charge, I expected better service. read more
