But this time the outcome was far less than satisfactory. Why? Why would a great company go down hill (so to speak) like that? Just kept scratching my head. Well, it dawned on me that perhaps the owner is hiring apprentice electricians to help them out, which if that is the case, is great. BUT, these employees must be supervised by an experienced, competent, knowledgeable and "seasoned" electrician. What actually happened was I hired them to install quite a few ceiling fans. After the job was done the ceiling fans were making such a hideous sound, we couldn't use any of the fans! So, I phoned a very close friend whom I trusted like I used to trust Rankin, and he had to troubleshoot each fan and basically re-install each one. I sincerely hope this once wonderful company is back on top of their game like they were the first time I hired them. They were really outstanding.

I always look to support a mom and pop business first and look for good reviews when looking for a reputable company. I came across McNamee Electric and the reviews all seemed to be really good. I gave the listed number a call and got an answer right away and was greated with the business name. This usually gives me a vibe right away if it is a professional company or not. So I felt comfortable continuing with scheduling an appointment. Ken, the owner of the company, asked me what was going on and what I needed help with. He also let me know his hourly rate and how pricing worked. After explaining, he let me know he actually had time on his schedule right then, same day if I was available. Lucky for us, we were available. He arrived within 30 minutes and promptly introduced himself when he arrived. We had a handful of separate issues we needed addressed. He listen to all of our concerns and jumped into diagnosing the issues. Being that we weren't expecting a same day visit, we had to move some cabinets and refrigerators out of the way for him to assess and without hesitation he helped my husband with this. As he went through the process he explained what he was doing and what the issues were. Making sure we understood before continuing and even pulling up information online for us to reference. He explained how it was important to looked all the issues, because even if it might not be obvious they might be related. In fact this happened to be the case with a couple of the issues we were having. As some of the issues escalated, as he dug into the problem he made sure to ask if I would like him to continue and that it would likely be a more extensive fix. As he was fixing the issues as he was going. He gave me an idea of prices as we moved through the process and before he began fixing the next issue. We felt comfortable leaving him to his work and didn't feel the need to hover. However he was very personable and I enjoyed chatting with him as he worked. Being totally satisfied with the work performed, I asked him to come back to address a few more items and an appointment was scheduled for the next day. He was willing to accommodate whatever day worked for us, even the weekend. After services were completed, he wrote out a detailed invoice of the items completed and the amount charged for the service. I wrote him a check and in the check I included a tip. He did not realize I paid more than the invoice at the time. However within a couple hours of the service I received a call from Ken, letting me know I wrote the check out for more than the invoice and he wanted to make sure it wasn't a mistake. I gladly let him know it was intentional. I appreciated the call to confirm. Based on this interaction, I would recommend McNamee Electric to friends and family. We are renovating a 1960's home, and decided to have Ken McNamee rewire the entire home instead of what many others suggested (simply upgrading the main electrical box). I could see for myself in the old box that several wires were showing signs of being overloaded--softening of the insulation was obvious. We wanted to be able to assure others that the home was in excellent condition if we decided to sell the place. Ken has significant experience in rewiring older homes, and he was very direct in describing what he would be doing so we would not be surprised by anything. His cost was in the neighborhood of what other contractors bid for the job. His experience stood out from the others. He proposed a nice way of bringing the breakers into the garage while leaving the original box outside (making the permitting process easier), and "took charge" of describing how to lay out new lighting throughout the home. We are generally very satisfied with his vision for this. Do be sure you make specific requests (if any) beyond what he proposes--there is one I did not think about until afterwards, but I expect he'll have no trouble coming out to address that. He has as an eye to the future too, being sure that we have good connectivity should we get an all-electric vehicle. When work began, he was totally open to my coming by to watch them as well as ask him questions. Personally I found him a very interesting person to interact with, being a veteran and having stories about all sorts of things. He is also clear that he works hard to keep his customers afterwards, which I certainly expect to do. He strikes me as an honest, direct person with whom to work. Looking for an electrician? Ken McNamee is your guy. We were having some issues. Ken came right out to the house and assessed the situation in great detail for me. Which was greatly appreciated because it gave me a full understanding of the problems I was having and what needed to been done. One issue I was having, if not fixed properly, could have cost me a lot of money if the electricity went out was a freezer full of meat from my half cow I had purchased. Ken immediately fixed this problem and I now feel that is something I will not have to worry about if the breaker gets tripped. The second issue was one of the original breaker boxes in my home was a potential fire hazard. Ken also showed me the areas of concern with the knowledge and experience he has built over the years. My main concerns were to keep my family safe and the valuables in my home especially those valuables that cannot be replaced should a fire destroy all that we have. It is imperative and so important to be able to trust in a professional to give you the knowledge you need when the time comes. McNamee Electric is an excellent company for all electrical work. Ken McNamee and his team rewired my 101 year old mother's house in East Bakersfield that was built in 1950. From the beginning of the process, Ken was open and thorough in explaining what would be needed to rewire the house to bring it up to a safe living dwelling and to bring it up to code. It was a house whose entire electrical system was breaking down. He explained in detail what needed to be done; how it would be done; and why it needed to be done. Ken was clear from the beginning that the cost he quoted me was a set amount, and that did not change. The quality of work was excellent. However, what was most impressive was his kind and considerate treatment of my mother. It was necessary to keep her in her house during this huge process, and every possible accommodation was made to keep her safe with everything necessary to meet all of her needs and comforts. She always had electrical power in the room she was in and access to the bathroom. She never had to worry about losing her food in the refrigerator. Ken, in my opinion is the best electrician out in Bakersfield. Just check his past reviews here and in BBB. All of his clients were very satisfied and I am one of them. I was shopping around for the best deal for my project (panel replacement, sub panel, EV charger, etc.). A few of the people I've talked to were either upselling their services or overcharging using BS, treating me like I am tech idiot (I have done my research). Not Ken. He told me what the best approach is and what I needed and gave me a great price. The man knows his stuff. He also said before the start that he will hook me up with the panel and he kept his word. I saw the wiring he did and I was impressed by it despite knowing a little about electrical (I work in a hospital). A hardworking and a very knowledgeable electrician, I am happy to have hired him! McNamee Electric was great! They're easy to work with and very knowledgeable. Ken, Derek, and Kenny were all very nice and hard working. If you have any questions they're happy to explain their work in detail. They adapted to my crazy timeline that kept changing on them without fuss and at no extra cost. The house is 100 years old and required a total rewire. Not an easy task! Once they could get started, they completed the full rewire in less than a week and for a fantastic price. They even relocated/reoriented our lights more properly and even replaced some of the old fixtures with better ones without request. Very cool! Ken McNamee came out when we were having an electrical problem with my mothers home over the weekend. He quickly diagnosed the problem and took the time to explain to her what needed to be done. During this whole Covid 19 situation he was able to reassure her that she would be able to stay in her home and be able to be safe while he fixed the problem. I called everyone and they said few days to weeks. Ken was amazing! Was able to come down same day later that afternoon. He came out and fixed my water heater issue. It was not getting any power only to find out the breaker was bad. Ken took care of that. Few days later in my new home the washing machine kept tripping the breaker. I called ken and he was able to come down later that day. He told me the arch breakers tend to trip even on new appliances. And he changed all the arc breakers to regular breakers.
