I've known Dr. McPhail for a number of years before he became my vet after my son gave me a English Springer Spaniel who recently came down with diabetes. Didn't know dogs could get diabetes. I wanted a good veterinarian for my senior dog who understood the local issues and the concerns that we have. Heart, arthritis, skin issues. We have done excellent! He and the staff know her when she comes in and greet us. He takes the time to really listen and diagnose. The treatment plan has worked, we went from constant whining, difficulty sleeping for everyone, to a restful night, proper medication and better food. Amazing Dr. and staff! I walked in today to get our dog seen as soon as possible because his paw was hurting. We recently moved to the area and didn't have a regular vet. I explained to them that our boy is very anxious and aggressive when at the vet, he's not a fan of strangers or shots. They got us in within the hour and were so sweet and accommodating with him. The Dr. didn't rush anything and gave our dog plenty of time to adjust to each phase of the process. It was also so refreshing to go to a vet that didn't insist on running tons of unnecessary tests the moment you walk in the door and price was more than fair for our procedure. So I had three cats I've been taking to McPhail's Animal Hospital in Mauldin for about 15 years now. Today I call them around 1:00pm on a Friday afternoon to get my youngest cat in who's around 11 years old to be seen for an emergency appointment. He can't keep any food down. He's vomiting, has diarrhea and can't walk without falling over. I'm told there's no appointments available for an emergency visit or otherwise but they can work him in by 2:00 or 2:30 if I get there before 2:00. I get there with my cat at 1:50pm and find that I still can't go inside two years later because they're still all ridiculously scared of Covid I guess. Even though everything else in the world is now open, these people are still "hiding" without allowing the pet owners inside to comfort their pets. Regardless, after I get there I'm informed that I'm not on their schedule and can't be worked in because they are so busy. So much for any compassion for a dying cat who could possibly be helped or at least try to help ease his pain and suffering. Epic McFail on their part and i'll never take any of my pets back there ever again. Now I have to sit here and watch my cat suffer and die a slow, miserable death because McPhails or any other vet cared enough to help him. If I could give negative Stars, Mcphail's would get negative five Stars for today! In the end they were not there for us when we needed them the most!! read more

The best. Dr McPhail was the vet for my pets back in the '70s. I recently moved back to the area and took my rescue kitty to McPhail. While the practice has changed some, the rock is still there. Dr McPhail "gets it". I like the "old school" way he treats both the animal and its guardian. Realistic. Dr McPhail...I realize you don't remember Zach or Percy from way back when...but I remember how you treated them and how you cared. That is why I came back to your practice YEARS later. My name is Kyle Gaillard. I recently relocated back to Greenville SC after serving 30 years active duty in the US Navy and 7 more in civil service for US Marine Corps. Three weeks after relocating my 17 year old Shih Tzu experienced multiple grand mal seizures, (10) to be specific. Last Saturday morning I called Dr. Mcphail's office who offered me an immediate appointment to evaluate "China" my dog. I knew the dreaded day was coming that she would need to be releived of her situation. The entire staff from the moment I made the call to showing up at the office was so very accomadating, understanding and sincerely sympathetic to my having to put her down that I immediately knew I had chosen the right place. They explained the cost which were minimal and the procedure from beginning to end. The doctor assured this was a 10 out of 10 the right decision. I held her has she passed, the ensuing sense of loss can only be known by those that have experienced the same. A week later I received a beautiful card from the doctor and staff, I looked at my wife and said, we have truly arrived in the south. I have lived and served many places during my life and no where is quite like the South and it's people. I wish to thank the doctor and the staff that took their valuable time to express their condolences in our time of loss. If you want professional, experienced, kind, accommodating, and very reasonable, Dr. McPhail and team is the right vet for your fur babies. I came here last minute after Augusta Rd Animal Hospital completely botched my 9 month old Goldendoodle's neutering. I'm so grateful the team got us in the same day I called. They were able to administer corrective care right away. Improvement was seen a few short hours after our visit, and issues were just about completely resolved after a few days. My pup is now underway to what the normal healing process should be. It was obvious I made the right choice to come here from the moment Chuck greeted us in the parking lot. Dr. McPhail personally came out to introduce himself to us outside with a big, friendly smile. My only regret is not switching to this team sooner. The vet is arrogant and condescending. The rest of the staff was really nice. I haven't gone back though.

The Vets and staff are skilled and very caring. We would not take our dogs to anyone else!

Most of the staff is great. However, I took our cat here a few years ago, when I was six months pregnant. Dr. McPhail looked at me and said, "What did I tell you about fooling around?" I did not know him well enough for him to be making that sort of joke. This place is so convenient--literally walking distance from our house. But we take our cats elsewhere now. read more

we have been taking our furry children to McPhail for almost 20 years. I can honestly say that they are the best. Very caring and concerned doctors. They will look after your family as if they are their own. They are the first doctors all of our animals have seen, and they are our go to doctors. we took our sons dog to them for an upset stomach, and while there they looked at the lump on his shoulder for no extra. our most recent addition, was spayed just this week. there were some complications, and they want above and beyond to make sure she recovered fully. she is home now, and doing well. We HIGHLY recommend them to anyone looking for excellent vet care and boarding!!! read more
