My dog gets so excited when she realizes where we are going. She loves the owner and the freedom to go in and out when she wants to. Also, enjoys the socializing with other dogs. He always checks whether she will do ok with other dogs. He would give her a private place if she ever needs to be alone. I don't need to worry about her getting her medicine, either. She sees it all as a vacation. When I pick her up, he always gives a complete report about anything he has noticed about her health or behavior. She gets such personal care. read more

I can't recommend Gary enough. He is such a special person with an amazing heart and he treated my dog often better than I did myself (and I spoiled him!) We recently moved to Florida and miss Gary deeply. He was such an important part of our lives while we were living in Greenville! I found him from a simple Google search and felt that he was our angel while we were in town. He always made time to take care of Blue, even when I reached out last minute. Gary would often send him home with presents, outfits, and other little treats. I never saw my dog as excited as when we were arriving in Gary's driveway! Over the two years we were in Greenville, our dog became more elderly and required significantly more care, including frequent medications. Gary never faltered or complained and took care of Blue like he was his own. He doted over our dog and they truly had the most special relationship. I would trust Gary with any and all of my babies, I wish he would have moved with us! We will always think of Gary and his love for Blue when we remember our time in Greenville. read more

My wife and I have brought our animals to Gary for 20 years. The level of care he has given to them means so much to us. It is not an exaggeration to say that going to visit Gary and his furry friends is our dog Rudy's absolute favorite thing in the world. In her non-camp life, she is a pretty anxious animal who does not generally get along great with other dogs, but she leads a different life at Gary's. His home where he keeps the animals is fairly modest looking from a human perspective--not corporate in any respect--but from all that I have seen over the years, it looks like an amusement park to a dog. He will go to any lengths make an animal feel at home, and he has often even let Rudy sleep in his, much to her delight. I can't think of any business that I would give a higher rating than Augusta Road Pet Hotel. Our dogs, Finn and Penny have happily been staying with Gary for years! I'm very glad that the dogs are staying at a house and not cooped up in a kennel with dozens of other dogs. Do not go here!!! We took our two dogs here when we first moved to the area. I was very surprised when I pulled up to his house. The outside kennels are trashed. The fences are falling over in places. There is literally trash around the front of his house and in the kennels. He wasn't there when I got there even though we had scheduled a specific time. I called him and he got upset. He said that I should have called him half an hour before I got there. Again, we scheduled a time. He arrived in a rush and I was heading to the airport, so I didn't get a chance to check out inside of his house. I looked at the reviews on here and they were all 5 stars. I thought, ok so his outside kennels are run down but he is really good with dogs. I came to pick my dogs up about 4 days later. They were stressed and ready to get out of there. And they stank! We again scheduled a specific time to pick them up (and called half an hour before). We also scheduled for them to have baths right before we picked them up. That didn't happen - I'm pretty sure he sprayed them with a dog freshener type of thing because their top coats on their backs were wet and smelled like that. So I thought, ok he didn't have a chance to give them baths. I asked him if he gave them baths and he said yes. .I said that they smelled bad. I thought that maybe there was a miscommunication...he flipped out on me. Seriously, this man started yelling at me! It was crazy! He said, how dare I say that he didn't do his job! I was speechless. Then he went into a huge tirade on how he couldn't pick up my large dog to bathe him because he had a hernia. TMI, right? I said, so you didn't actually bathe them then? That was it. He blew up and told me that he didn't want to ever watch my dogs again. Like I'd take them back there. FYI - He wouldn't even let me come in his house when I picked the dogs up. I came to the door and the smell of urine was overpowering. When he opened the door I realized that the smell was coming from inside the house. He checked who I was, closed the door on me and then brought the dogs outside. I started to write a check and he said that he only takes cash (red flag!), but by that time he had already yelled at me, so he was getting paid with a check or not at all. Gary and his establishment completely surpassed ALL OF MY expectations!! The first night that our dog, cinnamon, stayed at his house, Gary sent a photo to my husband of cinnamon laying beside his bed (he wanted our dog to sleep in the bed with him, but Gary has a cat and cinnamon wasn't about that life haha). When my husband and I picked up cinnamon 3 days later, she and Gary were chilling outside in his beautiful, thriving garden...such a pleasant thing to see when picking up your dog from vacation!!! To top everything off, Gary sent cinnamon home with us with TWO new toys and a water bowl for her. So so stinkin sweet and unexpected!!! Gary is a treasure. I took my dog, Cilly, to Gary every day for daycare while I worked in Greenville for the summer. She is fearful of nearly everyone but she warmed to Gary throughout her time with him. I feel like this is important to mention because it speaks to his patience and kindness towards her even when I was not around. Gary was flexible with drop off and pick up times despite being SO busy! It is no surprise that owners bring their dogs back to Gary time and again. I should also mention that Gary has been caring for dogs for many years and his experience certainly shows. I am also confident that Gary remembers the idiosyncrasies of each dog which is rare in a day and age of commercialized dog care. The owner Gary appears to really love animals, but is not flexible or compassionate to humans. We left our small dog there for two nights (Sat-Sun) and pick him up on Monday. However, we had an emergency back home and needed to pick him up at 3:30 on Sun. We offered to pay for a part or even half of the day, but he insisted on getting paid the full amount. We will not be returning to this kennel ... especially as there are so many others in the area. read more
