We have been going to Mcqeens every year for father's day as my dad likes the food and environment. This was the 4th year. We arrived at 1130 and promptly ordered. Sister-BLT brother and dad fish tacos and I ordered a grilled ham and cheese with fries and ranch. We went to the patio as the bar was quite loud. 45 minutes pasted with no update and no refills. Finally at 1230 our food arrived. My siblings and father got the correct order and I received a cheeseburger. I told the server that this was a mistake and she said maybe the cook gave her the wrong plate...we asked for silverware and napkins and waited 15 minutes before she came back with these things. At this point I told her I didn't want my order as everyone else was almost done. She said "hes bringing it right out!" I said fine to only discover that this idiots idea of a grilled HAM AND CHEESE was to take a top hamburger bun, put a slice of cheese on THE TOP! AND FOLD IT LIKE A TACO. NO HAM. DIDNT EVEN USE REAL BREAD. This place needs to reevaluate its kitchen. IF YOU CANT MAKE A GRILLED HAM AND CHEESE, I DONT THINK YOU SHOULD HAVE LICENSE TO BE A HUMAN. Great drinks, great company, and has food. What more can you ask for? Location: One of the only places open late in the area that serves food. They have free street parking in the area. Food/ drinks: I ordered the chicken tenders and they were your standard chicken tenders. I also ordered a long island that was made to perfection. Drinks are also reasonably priced. I will say it is one of the only places in the area that serves food very late at night. I went around 11 PM. Service: The bartender was super friendly and nice. She made my drink quick and was very diligent about checking in on me. She took the time to talk and get to know me as well (always a plus). Went Sunday to brunch and was pleasantly surprised. The bloody Mary's were spot on and the gravy was plate licking good.

Discovered this place a couple months ago. Loved the happy hour menu and the fair price for the wings. It's the main reason I came back a few times and will continue to come. EDIT: Just went back and bartender said new manager or something ended their happy hour! She said I was "lucky" to ever get it :( was starting to make it my new spot but now I won't be back sadly. Prices are now too high for what they offer. Their menu isn't the best but was still prepared to order a special that day if there was something good. Their white board that usually had specials was gone. I asked to see their specials, she told me it takes them an hour (from 3 - 4) to write the new daily specials on a white board. Looks like a "neighborhood" bar, full of a lot of locals who have gone there for years. This place has a really great choice of beers (on draft as well as a few more in bottle or can) and there's a lot of different food items on the menu, especially for such a small kitchen. The prices that are considered moderate for the choices given. If you get there early enough for breakfast they have a basic bacon & eggs breakfast special for under five or six dollars that's not a bad deal. I think that this place would seriously benefit from a new laminate floor put in, and some of the nasty old carpet (with no padding beneath) torn out. and if you're one of those people that has seen duct tape used for just about any kind of repair, you might be surprised that someone has actually attempted to put tape on the floor to repair a ripped or scratched fake wood/laminate floor area over by what looks to be a stage area or dance floor or karaoke corner. (I was there during a football game so there was nothing but a TV and a few screaming fans.) If you are a smoker, then this may be one of the few paradises that you can go to eat or hang out for long periods of time in order to watch a sports game or listen to live music (or do Karaoke?). They have an outside area with several picnic tables, surrounded by a gigantic metal ground-to-roof cover, so that you can smoke outside the building without standing in the wind, rain or snow (or blazing hot sun, depending on the time of year). I couldn't tell you much more about it, because I am not a smoker and did not go out there oh, I just saw it through a window. I have only been there once and had just gotten done eating elsewhere and only stopped for a beer and to check it out. So I can't really give too great of review regarding the food. I did, however, look at the menu and they had a nice varied assortment between deep fried bar food, sandwiches both hot and cold, burgers, salads, wraps, and other foods I cannot remember at the moment, including breakfast. There seems to have been just enough parking for the small space that is inside. I did not use the restroom so I cannot speak to its cleanliness or amenities. While I was there I think there was one person cooking and one bartender for the, probably 20-25 people that were present both inside & out, and although the drinks and service tended to be a little slow, it wasn't to unacceptable. I just wouldn't expect to get a fast drink unless you hover around the bar area and ask for it yourself. One of the nice things that they did have at the time I was there, (which was during nicer weather) was a gigantic Igloo cooler full of icy cold water and a stack of plastic cups so that you could serve yourself a glass of water with. If I ever make it back out that way to try the breakfast or one of their soups or sandwiches I will update my review. read more

I've been to McQueen's many times, so my review is a compilation of experiences. First of all, the food is usually pretty good-- not gourmet, not outstanding or unique, just basically good pub food. The exception was the food on Italian night. I would not have that again. The atmosphere is dive bar-- floors are dirty, tables and chairs are old and worn, decor is non existent. It's not pretty. But, one does not go there for the decor. So, no biggie. The service is hit and miss. Sometimes it's fine, but on many occasions, the waitress does not check in as often as we'd like. Sometimes not at all. There's often a wait to get menus, a wait to get food, and maybe no one asking if we'd like another drink. We often have to get the staff's attention if we want something. One time, my friend and I could have easily left without paying as no one brought the check, and the staff had just disappeared. We had to call to the back to get their attention. It was weird. I feel that with just a little more effort and attention, McQueen's could move up the star scale. But as it is, I've begun looking for an alternative in the neighborhood, such as Vinal Tap down the street. My first visit there was very good, so McQueen's may be history for me and my group. read more

It's small, dark, and has an air of "authenticity" hearkening back to the days before the indoor smoking ban. The handful of tables were occupied by a variety of groups, so we found ourselves amongst an array of colorful caricatures. With maybe only 20 patrons in total, it felt like any more would start to get crowded but as it was everyone had a place to sit among the modestly kitschy English-themed/bookshop decor. I had a glass of beer while my wife opted for a white wine. The bartender then went back to visually inspecting each and every clean glass for spots before returning it to the back bar. Her demeanor was equal parts casual and familiar, which made us feel like regulars on our first first. Food is fantastic. Everything seemed very fresh. The burger and fries are HUGE. They also have a nice beer selection. It's definitely not the kind of place that would appeal to a wide range of bar-goers, but it's another one of those little Post Alley finds that keeps Portland in general interesting. read more

It's a locals type bar. If you don't frequent River Rd. or know someone who lives near, you will probably never go here. They do have a good beer selection. They do have good food. But fact of the matter is, it isn't a destination point. I however, have never had a bad time here, and a few trips with a local, and you will start to feel like a local as well, the staff and patrons are JUST THAT FRIENDLY. The bartenders are a take "no crap but can dish out whatever banter you are willing to take" kind of group of gals and if you request something from the kitchen that is not typical from the menu, like a "McQueen's Burger with fries on it, not on the side" The guy will remember you because he wants to be sure you lived through eating the whole thing. We seriously go every monday for 1.75 taco trio. It is great and they have amazing happy hour prices, 2.25 for all well and domestic draft beers. I smash my tacos all together and make a yummy taco salad. My boyfriend and I eat and get tipsy for under 12 bucks every week. Gotta love the pub and the older crowd.
