An excellent experience overall. I've tried a number of clinics in Santa Barbara over the years and have finally found somewhere I am happy with. My therapist, David Rodriguez, was professional and attentive. I regularly have deep tissue massage so have high standards, however this experience exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately today I experienced perhaps the worst massage ever. I made a 90 min $119 Deep Tissue appt with Roger online based on excellent Yelp reviews. I looked so forward to feeling better since I'm in town on a work trip and staying in a hotel with an awful bed which caused back pain for 4 days. This was the first chance I was able go to work late so I booked a morning massage. On my arrival I was asked to write down problem areas and I indicated neck, shoulders, and low back. During the massage I kept wondering if I had inadvertently indicated that those exact areas be avoided. Sure I should have spoken up sooner but it was so strange that I kept thinking there's got to be something redeeming still to come. But when the therapist's hands with oil hit my scalp (there goes the salon blow dry) and face, well I really had enough. It's an understatement to say I couldn't wait to get out of there. When I told him he completely ignored my stated problem areas, he said he started with work on my lats which would be related to low back pain (oh?) and he was now "looking" for tension he apparently believed he treated. He barely touched my low back at all. I did not find this massage therapist to be even minimally intuitive nor effective whatsoever. He offered to work on me longer (umm no, thanks) and also to not charge me, perhaps intending to rebook. But because I will never go back to this business again, I'd just as soon pay Roger for his time and get on my way. It's now 8 hours later and I'm still working on regaining my serenity after such a deeply disappointing experience. Will I get over this? Of course. I could have neglected to post a review but maybe just maybe this will count even just a little to prevent another customer from having their basic expectations let down as I just did. I have learned to search beyond Yelp reviews for referrals. read more

I had a 60-minute massage with David R. He listened to my requests and my massage was exactly what I wanted. The length of the massage even went slightly over an hour which NEVER happens at most places, where they count changing and the consultation as part of the massage time. Here's what you can't do in business. Establish a thriving practice in town, based on your name, your talent and expertise..then leave town without adjusting your website to reflect this. This 2 star review is not for the therapist..who I won't name because it's not his fault. He was a nice person and did a fine job. I'm a business owner and have also been a sports and medical massage therapist for over 14 years. I had always heard of David McVeigh in town and thought that if I ever needed real body work I would give him a try. I turned to the McVeigh Massage website and reviewed David's credentials and experience.. I can do that because David STILL features prominently.. front and center on the website. He also is shown in the picture of the three therapists that seem to be working there ( I learned later that only 1 person in that picture actually works there currently and NOT pictured are many many more whom you CAN't read about). I called the office, left a very detailed message about my injury, wanting to book with David and the skills I was looking for. I got a call back from a nice person. I asked to book with David. I told her I had tried to use online booking but David's screen (which is visible) is showing him fully booked for months. She sheepishly explained that David doesn't live in the area any more! He has been gone since JUNE. What? I said oh.. what? I mean. he still features prominently on the website. It literally says he is there. After I absorbed that... i explained that I would be willing to try someone.. that has experience in Myofacial release, deep tissue and sports.. I did not want a relaxation massage. She mentioned 2 names..and assured me they had those skills.. I booked with the one who had the next opening. I arrived at my appointment. Place is nice.. Treatment rooms are tiny. Made me feel bad for the therapist.. He had no room to move at all. I explained my issue in detail.. Thought we were on the same page. The treatment was fine. I believe he did the very best he could. I tried to steer him back in the direction of my issue many times during the hour..Some work was done but I just felt he needed more training in the work I booked. At 89 dollars for an hour..it was a disappointment.. But the biggest bummer was the situation that David left his staff in. David.. either take your website down..Or fix it..Take yourself off as a therapist.., list yourself as a founder, bio the actual therapists that WORK there so people can research them before hand..Stop making your staff apologize for your leaving and your misleading..dare i say false.. website..stop making them try to fill your shoes with other therapists that may not be ready.. IF you are a very happy client of McVeigh Massage.. that's great. Glad you found your match in a therapist. But if you are looking for David.. You wont find him there.. read more

Let me start by saying that I thought hard about leaving this review and I've had regular massages for years. My sweet husband prepaid for my first prenatal massage. He took time to research where to send me for a prenatal massage and liked the reviews he saw here. Unfortunately, I left feeling violated. During the massage, my breasts were barely covered or exposed during several points. I pulled the sheet up to feel more covered. During the 90 minutes, I was repeatedly asking myself if it was really happening and questioning the professionalism. I was even worried that he was going to touch me inappropriately at one point with his hand placement near my chest. I'm not conservative and I've had massages by men before. I know how it feels when the sheets are moved and tucked in to keep you covered. Also, I'm glad I wore my boy shorts undies because this area was not well covered either. I didn't say anything during the massage or leave early because it always seemed to be right at the line where I was questioning myself. However, I've decided that none of my other messages have ever left me feeling this way. I realize this is a scary accusation but I truly feel that I'm not saying these things without having good reason. I don't want another woman to leave feeling the same why I still do, weeks later. David R is massage god. I have been going to him for years and I live 2 hours away, he's that good. I have gone to many massage therapists, all with exceptional ratings, but I've come to the point where I won't see anybody but him anymore. Every time I go, I have some issue that my doctor wants to give me a cortisone injection for and the PT guys can't quite figure out, but I let David do his magic first and he breaks the pain point and it resolves itself. I don't know how he does it. He always surprises me, as the trigger of my pain is always somewhere I don't think it is, but he finds it, fixes it and leaves me happy for weeks afterward. This all in addition to his incredible kindness and calming and focused presence, I always leave with both my body and soul refreshed. read more
