The Horror! The Horror! All the reviews before me were 1-star. I am just here to confirm that it is true how bad this company is. Though Comcast sucks too, I am paying for an even higher fee for very slow internet connection. So slow I can't stream netflix. Unfortunately I dont have much choice since this more-money-for-the-worst service company monopolizes these buildings' shitty communication services. I ordered the internet service and they demanded that I set-up an auto payment. 4 months later I received a bill for late fees and that I didnt pay for my bills. Someone was not doing his/her job!! They had the audacity to want to charge me $50 to reconnect my service. And I thought Comcast was the worst. Earth, please open up and swallow this atrocious company whole. read more

The absolute WORST! I called for a 4 day credit due the outage caused by the Nashville bombing. Instead I was hung up on not once, but FOUR times. Mind you they were talking over me the whole time stating the bombing was an act of god and so a credit didn't have to be issued. The icing on the cake for me was when one of the customer service reps told me to contact the family of the bomber for a credit, which is a really shitty and inappropriate thing to say regardless of what the bomber's motives were. I've worked in customer service before dealing with extremely irate customers and have never hang up on a customer, typically it's against company policy. Not to mention the comment about harassing that man's family because MDU failed to provide the service I pay them for. With other national ISPs a credit is given for an outage regardless of the cause, it's part of the assumed responsibility of a business owner that when bad things happen you don't pass along the costs to the customers. Apparently MDU doesn't operate this way and expects their customers to compensate for their misfortunes. Beware if your apartment complex is contracted to them. I can't think of a shadier company. I live in an apartment building that forces us to go through MDU. I love everything else about the apartment building. The location is great, I like the management, I like my apartment. The only bad thing about it is MDU. And MDU is SO BAD, that I am literally considering moving out of an otherwise perfect apartment. Our internet runs like dial up. We can not stream things. Our DirecTV, which also goes through MDU, has lost channels building wide for the past few weeks. When I call the company, they tell me that they are trying to figure something out but can not give me any time for when this issue might be resolved. It also took me 3 phone calls with them to actually get this information, for a combined total of something like 4-5 hours on the phone. On top of all this, I pay 50 dollars more for this terrible service than I have with any other cable/internet company at any other place I have lived, ever. read more

MDU is the worst. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would I recommend becoming a customer. It's been nothing but a pain since the day we called to get our internet set up. If I could rate - 100, I would. Customer Service: We've been customers for about five months, and the only good thing I can say about their customer service is that the man who came to install our router in September was polite (but not on time). MDU is overcharging us for our sloooow DSL internet, and after calling every day for the past week hoping to speak to a manager to get the situation resolved, I've yet to get in touch with anyone who can really help, and have yet to receive a promised call back. On the whole, the 'reps' are rude and curt, and have promised me several outlandish things (free service) which I learn later are not their to promise. Reliability of service: As mentioned before, MDU provides slow internet service that occasionally drops down to almost nothing. We have our own router, and pay for 3 MBPS but service slows considerably when building usage is high (down to about 0.5 MBPS). We plan on canceling soon and receiving service from FIOS - my first exploratory phone call about their comparably priced internet was vastly more helpful. I can't wait to be rid of MDU. read more

I am forced to pay for this awful internet through our apartment building. If I had a choice while living here, I would look ANYWHERE else for internet. I'm paying $60 a month for less than 20mbps. Since living here for the past 5 months, the internet has gone down at least 3 times. This time, I haven't had internet for 6 hours. Tried calling their customer service number and a prompt comes on saying "the backup generator is working now and just unplug your router, plug it back in after 30seconds should work." If you listen further on it just takes you through a tutorial of how to troubleshoot and you can't get a hold of a live person. What a joke. read more

MDU Network is terrible and that is not an exaggeration! The customer support is hardly ever available and it seems that one lady always answers the phone. Technical support does nothing to help you and the internet is always going down! My advice to anyone moving into an apartment that has MDU and you really use internet! RUN! Not to pile on too much here, but pretty much everything else said previously is 100% true. I've been waiting over an hour over the phone (in the middle of the workday) just to CANCEL my service since I'm moving to a different apartment; note also that the lousy quality, poor reliability, and ridiculous overcharge for MDU's "DirecTV" service played a substantial part in that decision itself. It's been over a year since I had to deal with these guys but waiting on the phone now has reminded me just how bad this company's customer service is, in addition to how poor their product is for the price demanded. (*AMENDMENT/UPDATE - someone finally picked up from their "overflow" center to tell me they were experiencing higher than normal call volumes, took down my name/number and told me I would get a call back later... doubt if that actually happens anytime soon) Hate to say it, but if you're looking at a building that offers this service exclusively compared to others (Comcast, Verizon, etc.) I would seriously recommend looking elsewhere unless you've got some alternate means for TV/Internet (Hotspot, Apple TV, etc.). If I could give zero stars, I would. Although in complete fairness, I haven't been without TV/Internet the past year that I've been stuck with them, so I suppose a minimal one star rating is most accurate. read more

MDU Communications is probably the worst business I've ever had to deal with. I'm forced to use them because they monopolize my building's TV/Internet services. They came for the initial installation and left without completing the job - neither the tv nor internet worked. They came out a second time, fixed the TV issue, but the internet still didn't work. I called several times for technical support and was always told there was no available technician to assist me and they would call me back. I never received a call back. I then noticed MDU charged me $65 for coming out to fix the tv/internet, stating that user error was the reason there was problem. MDU never set up the internet correctly in the first place and didn't fix it when they came out - my internet still doesn't work. Super slow - barely pulls up webpages and stops altogether frequently. I called about the billing issue, they gave me the same line that someone would call me back - no response. So I had to dispute the charge with the credit card company. To top it all off, I set up an appt to have a technician come out for the fourth time and they never showed up. I don't even feel good about giving them 1 star. That's far more than they deserve. I've been trying to get my DirectTV account transferred to MDU (because I live in an apartment that forces me to go through MDU) and last night when I called to get an update, I had the craziest customer service experience of my life. After being on hold for an hour (normal for phone calls to them), I talked to the guy who randomly interrupted, "Sorry. I can't give you any updates on your account." I asked why and he said, "Because you just said you're calling for your roommate and it's not your account." Weird thing is, I never said that...because I don't have a roommate. I tried to explain the situation again and he interrupted me again and said, "Now you're saying this is Jake's account?!" Again, weird thing is, I never said Jake. I don't even know a Jake! By the end of the conversation, he was telling me that since I'd given him five different names and a million different stories, there was no way he was going to give me information on MY account. When I asked for a manager, he told me (without pausing to check) that they were all busy. No joke...I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I've had bad customer service, but this was...I don't even know what this was. No idea how Miguel at MDU got a job. But he definitely belongs in a mental institute somewhere. read more

The friendly man helping me did not ask a single question as to why I was cancelling... I guess they didn't have to as they are well aware of the poor quality of the service they sell. Lived in a Grosvenor condo for one year. Internet and service were hideous. The internet went out once for several days, and when I called, the message looped continuously so I couldn't leave a message or talk with a real person. I finally sent an email because that was the only way to reach them and they resolved the issue 2 days later. Every time I called, it was a long, long wait (30+ minutes). They have a monopoly and do not care if you have a problem. read more

I put one star only because Yelp won't let me put a zero. This company is one of the worst I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. They initially monopolized our buildings wifi and cable so we were forced to use them when we signed our original lease. I would list out everything horrible about this company but that's the problem - it's everything. Do NOT use MDU. If you do, you will be overcharged and forced to endure some of the most frustrating and aggravating treatment imaginable. I'm going to keep this short but just FYI. During the Fall, MDU failed to provide any service to our apartment and a number of others for nearly 2 and 1/2 months. One day our internet and cable began to waver (a little worse than normal - yeah if only wavering was an uncommon issue with MDU's service) and then just stopped working. Service was eventually re-established, but MDU never once apologized or accepted responsibility for their failure. We wen't over 2 months without any internet or cable service - that we PAID for. Not to mention having no internet ended up being a huge problem for both our classes and professional work. During those 2 1/2 months we were constantly trying to get in touch with a representative from the company (horrible customer service - makes you wish you could ) and tried to get a technician to come inspect our modules and the buildings system itself. One (very rude and unprofessional) technician finally came, close to the end of the 2 and 1/2 months, and after tearing apart the wall in our apartment and running around the building...he disappeared. Yeah. He left our apartment to go check cables in the basement and then just disappeared. Even the complex staff didn't know where he went and he never checked out of the building...a little creepy. We never saw or heard from that guy again. About a week after that we got service again. Despite all of that being said, even when there isn't a major malfunction - MDU's service is barely service. If I had to guess, our service slows down to a slug crawl (barely there) during the afternoons and evenings for about 3/4ths of the year. We tried to switch from MDU multiple times but they have made it so difficult it almost makes it easier to just move to a whole new apartment altogether...and believe me - the shit we've endured from MDU made us seriously consider it. I've dealt with Verizon and Comcast before and I've had issues with them aswell, but they can't hold a candle to MDU. I honestly don't know how this company is still in business. I've read the other reviews on here, and most of what people have said is (sadly) very familiar. Do yourself a huge favor and steer clear of this company. read more

Pay for "up to " 6MB download and get 3MB any time of day, from Sunday to Saturday. After the last snowstorm it got even worse. 0 reliability, 0 support, 0 anything. My Internet back in Brazil was WAY better than this terrible MDU. By 100 miles. It was stable and reliable. Don't MDU ever. read more

Just a warning to anyone considering MDU Communications for their internet/cable needs. My daughter just moved to Washington DC; she is a student and is living - for the first time - off campus. She contacted MDUComm, who contracts with her apartment complex, to set up internet and cable service. At that time, she was told what the monthly fees would be and a date was set for the installation. 45 minutes before the installer was due to arrive, she received a phone call stating that, because of her high credit risk (she has no credit history; she's a kid), they required an additional $200 before they would install the modem and connect the cable. Furthermore, they told her they would just deduct it from the Visa account she had used when she first set up the service. Not knowing what else to do, she agreed, then called me. I have tried unsuccessfully for almost a month to dispute the $200 charge. Had they ever indicated that a high credit risk would require $200, I would have just signed up as the account owner (I pay the bills anyway). That they waited until less than hour before the installation gave her no real choice in the matter. I called the next day offering to transfer the account to my name and I asked for the $200 back. Needless to say, they will make no changes and no refunds. One customer service rep told me the money was for a credit report, one told me it was a contract fee, another told me it was an equipment deposit and would be refunded at $5/month. First bill is in, and no $5 reduction. Just beware before you consider contacting them and record the conversation if you do (after asking, of course). read more
