When my wife asked for assistance, the elderly employee just walked past her. I was able to get help from the younger girl leaning against the counter but to be honest, it seemed like neither of them wanted to be there or help us so we just fended for ourselves. There was a big stage to one side, but nothing happening there so the kids just sat there and waiting for us adults to finishing perusing. There are lots of alcohol and coffee options but nothing stood out as a must have so we ended up not getting anything. We were pretty hungry, but there were no food options except vending machine type food, so we were out of luck. Be sure to grab a seat inside and enjoy the nursing home quality heat levels. There are more seats available outside but the smell of the full trash cans scattered is around was rather unpleasant.

I stopped in while heading down to OBX, in search of a decent latte or frappe, and was blown away by how much more this place offers. Not only did I get a delicious Java chip frappe, but there was also live music playing, great vibes, and a surprisingly wide selection of goodies for sale. It's a cozy, small-town spot that packs everything a tourist could want. The woman running the show was doing it all, from expertly pouring drafts to crafting my frappe with care & she did it with a smile. It's rare to find a place that balances beer, coffee, charm, and community all in one. Whether you're craving a cold brew, need a break from the road, or just want to soak in some local flavor, Blue 42's Brewing Barn is the perfect pitstop.

This morning we decided to go for a drive, and before long we found ourselves at Pale Horse Coffee,…read morelocated at 1296 S. Battlefield Boulevard, just outside the Great Bridge section of Chesapeake. Having visited their Summit Pointe location before, we were pleasantly surprised by just how spacious this café is. The Great Bridge location offers plenty of comfortable seating, making it an ideal place to meet friends, catch up on work, or simply relax with a great cup of coffee. Their retail area is also much larger, featuring an impressive selection of branded T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, coffee beans, and other merchandise for those who want to take a little piece of Pale Horse home with them. We arrived just before the Saturday morning rush, which proved to be perfect timing. No sooner had we settled into our seats with our lattes than a group of nearly thirty people walked through the door. It didn't take long for the shop to become a lively gathering place. Despite the growing crowd, the atmosphere remained welcoming and unhurried. Whether you're looking for a quiet corner to enjoy your favorite espresso drink or simply stopping by to grab a coffee on the go, Pale Horse has created an environment that encourages you to stay awhile. In addition to an excellent selection of coffee, espresso, and handcrafted lattes, they also offer a variety of fresh baked goods if you're looking for something to enjoy alongside your drink. One piece of advice: arrive early. Word has definitely gotten out about this place, and it's easy to see why. Even if you happen to visit during a busy period and have to wait a few extra minutes, the quality of the coffee and the friendly atmosphere make it well worth your patience. Pale Horse Coffee continues to prove that great coffee is only part of the experience. Comfortable surroundings, friendly service, and a welcoming community are what keep people coming back--and after this visit, it's easy to understand why. !

One of the first things I realized after stepping in their door is they are a very pro military operation. They have lots a sign that indicate military support like a wall hanging of Challenge coins. Also the names of the coffee. They sell a large variety of their own coffee in bags. They also sell merchandise. The roasting operation is open for the public to see. I decided on a cup of medium roasted blend. Staff was great and also useful assisting with my choice. They provide samples. They have space to enjoy your cup too. But I got mine to go. I was very happy with the taste and a good price point too. This was not my first time trying them as they offered at some area restaurants like American Brew in VB. I would love to return

We fittingly tried Southland on our way back south to NC from VA. Except for the fried chicken, it…read morereally didn't highlight North Carolina's culinary talents very well. I tried the chopped, they called it minced, BBQ. It was very finely chopped, without any texture, and heavily seasoned with a vinegar-based sauce. It was definitely not the best Eastern NC 'Q I've eaten. At least the slaw seemed freshly made. I paid an up charge for sweet potato fries and was rewarded with a heaping helping of undercooked frozen sweet potato fries that were closer to tasteless than tasty. The hush puppies were just balls of bready blandness - yuck. My dining companion tried the fried chicken and pulled pork combo. She thought the fried chicken was good and based on the number of other Customers ordering it, this is Southland's main draw. The pulled pork was stringy strands of pork seasoned like the chopped 'Q; she tried a couple of bites and gave up. Our server was not attentive and seemed like she didn't really care too much. The tasty fried chicken knocked Southland out of the running for a 1-star review, but all-in-all our meal just wasn't very good and really doesn't paint NC BBQ in a positive light.

The service is great, Becca was very kind, genuinely friendly and had the sweetest smile. The other servers were also very attentive and friendly so they're doing that part right! The prices are average and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean so they're doing that right too! The food though, oh gosh, the food is severely sub par. I got the mixed platter with fried chicken and pulled pork, hubby got the brisket platter. The fried chicken tasted old, not sure how to describe it, it felt and tasted old with a rubbery skin I could barely chew. The pulled pork was not edible, it was so dry I couldn't chew it enough to swallow it! Hubby said the Mac and cheese was amazing and I thoroughly enjoyed the mashed potatoes! Let's talk about the brisket though! Paper thin slices of meat, reheated on a grill top and smothered in a weird gravy. Pretty much leather straps! The hush puppies were nice and the onion rings were too but gosh, the mains just failed so miserably. I almost forgot, I also had the salad bar, it was very small but nicely stocked and clean. Sorry for the two stars but folks need to know what to expect, perhaps the burgers and sandwiches are good?!
