It has definitely become an iconic part of Vancouver's food scene. We went for the classics, the Kurobuta Terimayo hot dog, Love Meat hot dog, and poutine. Personally, the Kurobuta Terimayo was my favorite. The pork sausage was juicy and flavorful, with just the right amount of teriyaki sweetness and mayo. It wasn't greasy at all, but you could really taste the richness and flavor of the pork. We were also lucky enough to try Japadog at two locations in Los Angeles, so if you happen to spot one, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try!

We were visiting the area, of course, to see the Steam Clock; so, while at it, we stopped by this small food stand selling Japanese-inspired hot dog. We ordered #1 Kurobuta Terimayo and #2 Okonomi. For a chilly sunny day, lol, these hot dogs were amazing for our body to warm up. The hotdogs were made as soon as we ordered; so, they were not cold, but warm and fresh-made! I loved the both Kurobuta Terimayo and Okonomi for its unique taste of Japanese food on a hotdog. I would love to try other ones if I'm ever in the area. The guys manning the truck were super courteous, and I ordered the "regular" version with demiglace sauce. It turned out to be one of those rare times when I was not disappointed! The omu was as fluffy and tender as can be, and the hidden bed of ketchup- and onion- flavored fried rice was also delicious. One of their sausages, Kurobuta Okonimi, is topped with fried cabbage, Japanese Traditional sauce, Japanese mayo, and Bonito flakes. They also have chicken hot dogs, wagyu beef ones, tonkatsu, kurobuta croquettes, poutine and many flavours of takoyaki. Another sausage popular among Japanese customers is the Kurobuta Oroshi which has grated radish, green onions and a special soy sauce on it. I was really impressed with the price (7 dollars including a pop) and the choice of toppings and bun - potato or whole wheat. I went with the potato bun, and added pickles, fried onions and Franks to the tartar sauce, coleslaw and lemon wedge that the halibut comes standard with. In addition to the halibut, they serve up salmon, lamb, turkey and buffalo, as well as a variety of premium toppings. The service, quality and flavour were really impressive - I will be back for a veggie dogs smothered in jalapeno and cheese the next time a 'dog craving hits!

We got the Polish Sausage with a side of Pierogis and an Italian Panini. The sausage was delish! It was well seasoned and had a nice bite to it. If you've never had them, pierogis are like dumplings filled with potatoes. Really nice and comforting. As for the panini, it was so fresh! An Italian done really well.

No long line ups here, no uniformed Japanese speaking staff, no photos of hotdogs with different toppings, and yes, no photo of Ice Cube too. There was only a friendly smile from the owner and one unique item offering which was the tandoori dog, choice of either kosher beef or kosher chicken. For $5.50, it was just plain and ordinary with only a hint of tandoori flavour basted on the hotdog. Despite the onions being nicely cooked in butter, bread rightly toasted, it was just boilerplate okay. It lacked creativity, texture and presentation, the wow factor. I was expecting toppings as chutney, yogurt, maybe paneer, or some curry infused side condiments, but there was only mustard, ketchup, and bbq sauce, typical for the dirty water dog varieties, not a stand named as Tandoori Tikka Dog. Sigh. Didn't mean to be the bearer of bad news here, but I'm giving it 2.5 stars and hoping they could improve as there's still lots of room left for more ethnic fusion street foods here in Vancouver.
