    Late night eats
    Peter H.

Heading down Granville around 10:30pm, the aroma from this place caught my attention. Two guys were running the whole operation. While there weren't any patrons dining in, several phone calls would come in for takeout/delivery orders for which they were busily preparing. I decided on the beef poutine, a samosa, and a bottle of Parsin Aryan. Loud, energetic music filled the restaurant, and one of the guys kept a conversation going with me about my day. The order was completed in a little over 10 minutes which seems normal to me. Honestly, I just enjoyed vibing to their soundtrack. The beef poutine satisfied my craving easily with its rich gravy, tender fries, melty and squeaky curds. The protein was very much the beef you'd find in their gyros, its texture and spices working surprisingly well. The samosa was solid, crunchy shell, flaky texture, and packed with flavor. Trying the Parsin Aryan for the first time, the saltiness caught me by surprise, though it definitely helped with digestion. Because of the sheer volume of food, I ended up saving the rest for the morning. One of the most anticipated leftovers for breakfast I've had in a while.

Looking for a late night bite and was excited for how highly this place was rated. Unfortunately majorly disappointed (food wise- I'll get to that). Decided to go for the poutine and it took an inordinate amount of time for being the only customer in there. If I didn't get up to check on them I'm not sure how long it would have taken with staff on their phones. Given a free soda (likely for the long wait- yay). But really I'm ultimately writing this review to share my perspective on how off this rating feels. The chicken poutine was fried chicken (but soggy). Fries and cheese curds were fine- but nothing really was that good- didn't even finish half, as it wasn't worth it imo.

You know I can for the majority of the time tell within the first few minutes of walking into an establishment what level of quality it will be. ......and yes, there have been (not many) restaurants that I have walked in and walked right back out again. I was hungry, wanted lunch and craved something new. As I walked through these doors I was greeted with a welcoming friendly smile, staff hard at work and a smell that could only be freshly marinated meats on a perfectly flamed grill ready to serve. I got the Mix Wrap. One skewer of beef and one skewer of chicken, as both proteins were juicy, well seasoned served up perfectly wrapped in a pita bread with yummy proportioned veggies and sauce. Loved it. Oh and another thing..... Have you ever had a wrap you were biting into and the juice starts to run down your fingers, hand and arm right onto your sleeve making its way to your watch? Well...I have. With these guys, you don't have to worry about that, because even their packaging is on point. I mean what could be better than bbq'd chicken and juicy tender beef served together in a blanketed fresh bread?

Late night food. Very satisfactory for the type of place. The sauces are really good too. Dinner * Chicken kebab and rice (Very good)

Holy moly I'm floored by this poutine! I never would have thought this one would be the best I ever had but wow! If you're looking for a spot for some amazing poutine while in Canada this is your sign!! We wanted to go somewhere walking distance and stubbled across this shop. The portion size was enough for 4, we ate it throughout our stay. They put scallions and a spicy sauce on top if you want. We added a little and it was the perfect kick. It also came with a white sauce, similar to taziki. I will be dreaming about this poutine forever! You have to try it. :)

My Uber Eats order came in an insulated bag, which was a nice touch. It was pretty good! I'm looking forward to trying a different kebab on rice next time.

We got the beef poutine and it was delicious. The portion was perfect for two people for a quick late night snack. The staff was so friendly. When we were leaving, we noticed the sign outside that said free drink with purchase of poutine, so we were a little sad we missed out on that. Limited seating, but we got a seat on the side and enjoyed our food. Overall, a great experience!

This is one of the very few places that truly pains me to give it a 4-star rating solely in the interest of keeping my grading scale consistent. So let me preface this by saying that this shop didn't "lose" a star by any means. I wholeheartedly recommend grabbing a try whenever you walk by, and I truly appreciate the owner's business. I also did not necessarily find anything to "complain" about. I just didn't find the flavors themselves to be excellent enough to warrant a 5-star rating. This was also my first time trying poutine, so I did not exactly have a good frame of reference to base my rating upon. However, what I CAN say is that the guy working the joint is superb. Instinct tells me he's a sole-owner sort of deal, though we never managed to get his name or details - other reviews mentioned his name was Shiva. He plays funky music and was more than welcome to crack a few bottles of Jarritos for us. He also included a free baklava with our sole order of poutine when he caught me looking at his baklava (and samosa) shelves. Now for the meat of my review, we had the obviously correct choice of gyro beef on poutine with extra gravy on the side, to celebrate my Canada visa finally seeing action. I also debated grabbing some fat crispy samosas on display, before remembering I was on diet. I don't know how this fared against the best poutines in the world, but we dunked gravy on it like a couple maniacs, so you better know it was good. Fries crisp beef sweet cheese melty. What more could you ask for? As for the baklava, it was interestingly served cold, with a more candified shell than you'd see otherwise and some chocolate syrup on top. This baklava is made for DESSERT, and the guy was clearly too tired of people buying the stuff for appetizers. Too bad that didn't stop us, but we can say it turned out quite well. I have to congratulate the owner on successfully mixing Middle Eastern concepts with Canada's best-known food. Fusion is hard to do right - and fusion between anything and North American fare, even more so. TL;DR Come by and have a good time. Not the kind of place to write a journal over.

Definitely try to go at opening or when it is not busy, as the dine-in experience is memorable - they place your order in a long wooden board to make it a beautiful spread. We got the Manoush'eh Special which has ground beef, pomegranate, etc and Sham Style which is shaped like a boat. We also tried the yogurt drink which pairs well with the dishes. The only con is that this place does not have free water, but it is no problem to have our own water bottles supplementing the meal. We also got the lentil soup which is pretty good. Definitely sufficient to share one to try, but the Manoush'eh outshines the rest of the items. I loved the quality and texture of the Manoush'eh and just the breads in general. It is a lot of food for 2 people so if you want a snack, you can definitely just share 1. Some people go here for the wraps too. Overall, an affordable restaurant with good food. We got the most expensive items and it was less than 50 CAD all-in, but a lot of the items are around the 10 CAD mark.

My wife and I came here for our anniversary dinner and we were delighted. We ordered the Chefs Special Sampler for 2 - basically giving us a sampler of everything on the menu for $90 per person. We were really really full and couldn't finish it all. Highlights: - Chickpea Fetteh: warm delightful mixture of ground meat, chickpea sauce, with soaked pita at the bottom and crispy stuff in it. It just explodes with flavour and texture. - dip sampler: the hummus and eggplant mutabbah were really good but that pocket pita bread was out of this world good. Even the tabbouleh was good and my wife normally hates that. - the lamb tartare was AMAZING. It was kneaded so soft that it was practically a paste. When you combine it with the nuts and red spicy sauce and eat it with bread the combo is winning. - grilled Kibbeh and regular kibbeh - both really delightful - the grilled meat plate was great. In particular the chicken with the garlic tahini was really flavourful. The kabob mushrooms and peppers on top of smoked baba ganoush was soo good. Loved the smoke flavour. They finished by serving us baklava sampler which was all really good. From start to finish this is an experience for the ages.

The interior of the restaurant was also very nicely decorated. I do think Saba Foods is fancier than other places I've been to while exploring new cuisines and I personally prefer a more casual dining experience. As for the food, the portion sizes were very generous (though I did see other diners ordering individually). I shared the haneeth and saltah with a friend as well as got the kunafa and bint al sahen for dessert. The lamb was very tender and fell off the bone and the saltah came in a bubbling pot. I think the presentation of each dish was beautiful and was representative of its quality. My favourite dish was definitely the haneeth; it had a good combination of meat, rice, and vegetables. My reason for the missing star would be price point (total came around to $55 per person) as well as flavour as I'm used to having very flavorful dishes from other cuisines. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't tried Yemeni food before though!

It's in an industrial park, and the place has a tiny pastry area in the bottom and an upper dining room. You order in the cafe area, and the food is sent up via number system and dumb waiter (SO cool). Service was one person and two cooks, so it's not immediate, but it's all made fresh and you can taste it. My Russian friend advised me on what to get, so we went with Khinkali and Khachapuri (sans meat). We also got what is on the menu as "jingle bread" and a beef kabob wrap. I had to get some kvass and pickles, too. I would get the dumplings, wrap, and kvass again in a second. Not that everything wasn't delicious, but my stomach is only so big and I need to try everything else on the menu. Khinkali is effectively a gigantic soup dumpling (HIGHLY recommend, but don't eat the stem!), and the meat in the beef kabob was similarly spiced. I fell in love with the lavash bread - it wasn't like anything I'd ever had. It was light, flaky, and I didn't feel overloaded with bread eating it like I do with most wraps. Kvass is slightly alcoholic, and it's technically a cereal based fermented drink, so it tastes a carby. It's a bit far for me to go with any regularity, but if I'm up around the airport, I will definitely keep it on my list of places to recommend and re-visit.
