I came here and shared a large order of the Classic Poutine with my daughter. We both love poutine but I think between the two of us, she's more crazy about it than I am. I asked what she thought of this poutine. She loved the gooeyness of the cheese curds but thought the gravy was just OK. I'm quite inclined to agree with her on this. A very fair assessment. You order at the counter here, then they give you one of those vibrating buzzer thingies to alert you as to when your order is ready. We didn't have to wait very long before our order was ready. There's a water dispenser and cups beside it where you can help yourself to free water. I appreciated how quick, easy and convenient this place was. Would I come here for poutine again? Wasn't blown away by the poutine but they do have some interesting flavors on their menu and while we weren't blown away by the poutine, I think it was decent enough that I might consider coming back at least one more time to try something other than the Classic Poutine. read more

I asked the Internet for the best poutine in Vancouver and it brought me here. After finding some ultra-convenient street parking for the Sprinter van, I was inside and smelling that delicious smell of fried foods. A quick study of the menu - 18 different poutines available plus hot dogs and sandwiches and burgers - I made my choice. Ten minutes later, I'm digging in to number 14, the "Smoked Beef" which is a Montreal-style smoked beef on top of classic poutine. And for those who don't know, poutine is Canada's gift to the world. French fries topped with cheese curds and gravy. I was "good" and chose the medium because anything more than that would have been pure gluttony. The toppings? Perfect. The fries? Oddly done with a crisp outside and it seemed like underdone inside. Still, delicious and four stars good. It's possible because I got take-out, but even take-out fries shouldn't be this bad after only 10 minutes.. I got a medium Montreal smoked beef poutine to go. The pros: They separate the gravy from the fries and cheese in another container. They gave a lot of meat for the poutine, and the meat itself was really good--tender for a soft mouth. The gravy had good flavour. The portion is nice and large. However, this is where things go south. They didn't give enough gravy for me to coat every fry. In my opinion, the poutine was also lacking in cheese for the amount of fries. The fries themselves, the star of the dish, were hard and stale. It's as if the fries are days old, yet they seemingly made it fresh since it took a while to get. They were cardboard fries. They have lots of basic poutine options, but also have tons of specialty toppings to pick from including butter chicken, sausage and smoked meats, etc. Food came out in about ~10-15 min. Strolled in here on Thursday night for a quick bite as the thought of poutine instantly made my stomach grumble! It was the first time I was there with a vegetarian, and while I was dreaming of their original classic poutine, we decided sharing one would be enough and we'd expand our horizons to try a vegetarian poutine. After scanning the board, I decided that we needed to try something totally different. I spotted "WAR FRIES" - an Indonesian twist on fries - peanut satay, mayonnaise (but of course? "Belgian") and chopped onions. The whole combination of mayo, peanut satay and onions was fabulous. Thinking about it right now has me salivating a little bit, just because the taste was so unique. Who would think to eat fries with satay on top!? It's like a cultural collision that I thought worked well. I guess my only disappointment was that it was not spicy and when I think of Indonesia, I think of SPICE, so grab a side of sliced up jalapenos for an extra flavour kick. The place is never that crowded so you'll always find seating. If you want to have a solid poutine in general, this was one of the original poutineries in Vancouver, so I feel like you cannot go wrong. This is a nice casual sit down restaurant. They have several tv screens and show sports games (ex. World Cup soccer). It feels comfortable, and the service is friendly. You take a number machine that lights up when your order is ready. The prices are reasonable for the portions you get. I ordered the deep fried pickles to start. They were tasty but the batter could have been crispier. Then, I got the chili poutine, which was filling and ended up being two portions for me. At $9, that's very reasonable. However, the fries need to be crispier for my liking. Next time, I'd like to try the chorizo,bacon or chicken kebab options. They don't only have meat; vegetarian options are also available. There are so many poutine options that it's a bit overwhelming. A friend ordered the fish and chips and was satisfied with the portion and taste. The beer on tap is $4 a sleeve at happy hour and $5.50 afterwards. Wine is $5.50 at happy hour and $7 at regular times. Recently took a little vacation up to VanCity and Belgian Fries was our first stop after the drive since we were suuuper hungry. This location is sort of divey, but really comfortable and casual. They've got tv's and beer here, so it's definitely somewhere you can come and have a relaxing lunch with friends or even alone. Now.... I've never had poutine before. I know, I know...... What's wrong with me?! I actually ended up going with the Meat Chili Poutine and was happy with my order, but looking back I wish I would've tried a Classic Poutine or the Beef Brisket. The Meat Chili Poutine is advertised as spicy but it really wasn't at all! This was 100% just Chili Cheese Fries, but I love Chili Cheese Fries, so I wasn't mad. If you ever want to destroy yourself on poutine for the cheap, this is the place to go. Parking is available along the side streets, as well as Commercial (metered). The inside is hipster casual, with 1980s era furniture, with a long thin patio outside. Staff were friendly. The food here is quite decent. The portions are fabulously huge. There are only 2 sizes (medium, and large for $1-2) more. Medium can easily feed 2-3 people, and large can feed 3-4. For $10 or so, this is insane. They also don't skimp on the cheese curds. Beautiful. Smoked beef - nice tender pieces. Layering wasn't too good though, as all the meat was on the top. Galvaude - reminded me of chicken pot pie, with the peas and all. Nice shredded meat and sauce. Kept everything moist. Beef steak - ground beef, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. Just like one big shepherd's pie. My friends and I all felt this was the best one of the 3. (Galvaude would be in 2nd place) The best part about the poutine? The dishes were extremely filling, and filled with a gazillion calories. How this place has changed, it used to just be a little shack that sold fries and dipping sauces (that is what I remembered it), I don't remember that they had expanded their menu to the point of burgers and other things, and to even have liquor on the menu, this is not just a fries joint anymore. We came in here on a rainy day where my brother needed a snack and I was more surprised at the line up for the food here. They run a fast food way of ordering, regardless of if your sitting in, or your taking it to go your lining up to order and pay up, and then when it is ready you pick it up at the other end of the restaurant. I guess the best way to think of what I'm talking about is what you do at Starbucks for your drink orders, order one place get stuff from another. My brother ordered the chicken poutine and it took awhile for us to get the order, partly due to the line up. They make it fresh to order, cause no one wants fries sitting under a heat lamp for the price you pay for this stuff. When we received the order, it was hot, ready to eat, and while I was driving back, and my brother was picking at the box, he even said the heat was burning into his crotch (yes, the visual, that's where he put the takeout box, right on his lap), so we knew it was made fresh to order. The order was a medium, tons of big chunks of chicken in the box, originally a whole breast of chicken being grilled up, then chopped, and topped on the fries. The thing was loaded with huge cheese curds, and drenched in gravy. The size of this thing was big, even if it was crammed into a little box, it will fill your stomach. The chicken chunks were done quite well, and the whole mixture worked, by the middle of eating this the sodium really started to kick in where a drink was needed. If your eating in, this place is pretty cool, in some ways it feels like a sports bar, with bar seating, tv's on sports, lot's of chairs, a good different type of hangout. My fiancé was raving about how amazing Belgian Fries was because we were watching a food show recently that showcased poutine. He was quite shocked that I've never tried poutine from Belgian Fries before so I decided to order myself one through UberEats. I got the medium Sunny Side Up which is their classic poutine with bacon bits and a sunny side up egg. Firstly, the portion is HUGE for a medium! I didn't realize there would be so much so next time so the pricing is worth it. The fries are definitely by far the best fries I've ever had in my life. Like that quality is just the right crisp texture on the outside and soft on the inside. The squeaky cheese curds I couldn't get enough of! There was a generous amount of bacon bits and a nice large egg as well. My only thing was I wish I had a bit more gravy on it since it was absolutely amazing. While the service was incredibly fast, I found the cheese curds far too big and the poutine sauce was hot but not piping so with these two factors, the curds didn't properly melt into the fries. The fries were superb of course, still crunchy but left feeling kind of disappointed. Being in Canada and all, I was hankering for some poutine. Walking up the road, this was the first spot I saw on the corner and I took it as a divine sign. I slapped down my plastic (an order came to under $10) and ordered a medium poutine. Having not had the pleasure of traveling eastward in Canada, this was as authentic as it was going to get for me. They also had different variations: Thai, Dutch, etc. Wow. Total comfort food. Hot crispy fries covered in gravy and cheese curds. OMG. Like others have stated, some of the cheese was not melted, but dang, it hit the spot. The venue itself had lots of wood and TVs playing but was a bit on the drafty side. Not the healthiest food to eat but when in Rome right! So 3 of us shared a large order of the Poutine (with chicken,peas,gravy,cheese curds on top of french fries). The taste was amazing. Why didnt I think of this concoction? We also ordered a large fry with garlic aoli and pesto aoli dipping sauces. Also amazing. All types of poutine for all your heart desires. They even have yam fries which were my choice. I substituted my regular fries for yam fries on my chorizo plate. It was a $4 up charge. I also held off on the gravey. The service was really quick and you got your food within minutes. Definitely going back to try some of their other stuff. It was only a few years ago, Belgian Fries on The Drive was a cute little hole in the wall on Commercial. Now they obviously expanded the place with a bigger, more modernized building with a bigger seating area. I understand the reason for the expansion (because it's so popular) but now it just doesn't have the same charm it used to. Their menu used to be simple too: fries, dip, poutine, deep-fried Mars bar but now they expanded their menu as well to include deep fried seafood plus hot dogs. I am a big fan of the fries and the dipping sauces. I think I've tried each and every one of them on separate visits. Fries are always fantastic and choosing a dippy sauce is fun. I just came back from B.F. where I had one of the yuckiest burgers. I don't remember it being like that before. The meat had bits of gristle, it was dry and tasteless. -ew!
