We SEARCHED for the best poutine and this place came to the top of my search list my S/O didn't trust my information so googled himself and got the same place so it must be legit right. I have had similar poutines so it wasn't anything standout but it was good and they had options I haven't seen at other establishments like the veggie option which I really enjoyed. The standard poutine was everything you'd expect of the Canadian specialty and if you can't visit Canada without trying this stable I recommend this place. It is a to go only restaurant with a stand up bar counter on the left side, but with so many parks close by I recommend just grabbing one and heading over to one or you could just sit in your car like many others. Make sure you grab some extra napkins you'll need them it's loaded. Give em a try if you're in the area it won't disappoint. read more

One of the best poutine I've ever had. Crispy fries with tasty gravy and chunky cheese. The combination is perfection. We got the classic and the fried chicken poutine. The buffalo fried chicken was so good! MUST HAVE! This is a carry out type of joint so don't expect to dine in. The classic poutine is $7, fried chicken is $9. It's a one woman show so be patient! This was my first meal as soon as I reached Vancouver and I don't regret it all. For everybody who knows me...the only reason why I choose Vancouver as my vacation spot for this year is to get good/authentic poutine and Ketchup Lays potato chips. My friends & I stopped here first during our food hop adventure. There was barely any wait, and the poutine arrived so quickly! We got our order without onions and asked for extra mushrooms instead. Things we noticed: the mushrooms appear to be canned, there could've been more cheese curds, but the gravy wasn't melting the cheese curds, so maybe that's why there weren't many cheese curds. This is as far from "traditional poutine" as it gets. A true hole in the wall at its core, maybe a 100 sq ft place at most - nothing wrong with that. The issue lies with their lack of service even when completely dead, we waited 40 minutes to order and get our food and there was only 1 person ordering in front of us. For fries, cheese curds and gravy, that's a long wait! When we received our food, the fries were already soggy and luke warm, the gravy overly salty and tasted rather... dirty? The cheese curds had no squeak or chew, they just melted directly on to the fries, begging the question of how they could do that if the fries and gravy weren't even hot? There are tons of other poutine spots we were hoping to hit but unfortunately most were closed even though their hours suggested that they were open. If you have had a long night out with friends, this might hit the spot, but if you're looking for traditional poutine, look elsewhere. read more

I was a little underwhelmed by this place. I read lots of good reviews so I decided to come here and give this place a try. It looked empty and there was no line when I got there. It took me 5mins of waving to attract the employee's attention and place my order. Across the street people were smoking crack. I ordered the mean and green poutine that comes with veg gravy, cheese curds, onion, peppers and mushrooms. The fries and the gravy were good but the vegetables clearly came from a can. The name says it all - it's definitely not nice poutine lol. Mean Poutine is literally a window/shack operation and the girl who was working was definitely not happy or friendly. Granted, we did show up right when she opened, but we were told the Montreal smoked meat would be a 15 minute wait. I got the Mean and Green poutine (vegetarian friendly) and I really enjoyed the veggies and veggie gravy. My friend's fried chicken poutine was pretty delicious but the smoked meat one was too salty (says my friend) They also each tried the mac and cheese dog, which smelled gross and did not live up to its name - it was more like a pasta on top of a hot dog. There's no place to eat your food besides the little ledge in front of the menu, the ketchup dispenser takes some upper arm strength to get it going, and our food came out rather slowly. The girl taking our order and serving it up was meaner than our poutine. I had a 10 hour layover in Vancouver. What else would I do but venture out to the city and jam anything edible in my face?? Poutine was a must of course. After a little research, Mean Poutine is what we landed on and easy to get to. The outside is dirty and there were bums hanging around. One guy would not leave us alone and kept rolling his eyes when we said we didn't have change. There's an express window that you walk up to and order, with a little outdoor standing counter you can eat at quickly. There's a giant menu in front. After looking over the menu for a bit our little "friend" decided to grace someone else with his presence. After much deliberation, the fried chicken poutine was it. The description said it was in a buffalo sauce, that was intriguing, I've never seen that anywhere. We go up and place our order. The girl at the window was not friendly, but whatever, I got my food. The fries were crispy as it should be for coming straight out of a fryer. The gravy was also good. I was disappointed in the chicken. It was pretty dry, and only a hint of buffalo sauce. Poutine is something you'll find common in Canada so, we had to try it ourselves. We've had it here in California but it's all about the gravy and I think they just don't have it quite down here. In comes mean poutine. We were actually looking for the truck but ended up at their store front. The menu is pretty straight forward however they were out of some items so check before ordering. We ordered the mean and green and the smokie. Food came out in maybe less than 10 minutes. The mean and green poutine is catered for vegetarians I believe and I liked but probably could have lived without the peppers in it. The gravy and cheese curds in it was everything. If you enjoy being yelled at by the owner for trying to bring up a mix up that they did, then by all means do come here. Ordered delivery. One dog one poutine. They even called to confirm that that they didn't have smoked meats for the hot dog (we're disgusting, I know.) so they were subbing bacon. When it arrives, we get two poutines instead of one hot dog and one poutine. Called the restaurant twice. First time they hung up, second time was greeted by a lovely gentleman who started barking at me while I'm trying to explain the situation. He barked that he packed the orders one was a fried chicken poutine and one was a meatball. I explained that we did not receive fried chicken, we ordered one dog one poutine. He confirms what our orders name was placed under and miraculously remembers that it was a meatball poutine and bacon poutine. When stated that we ordered a HOT DOG, he went on to say that they DIDNT HAVE HOT DOGS and spouted some bullshit before abruptly hanging up on me mid sentence. Fuck this place don't ever come here. So the first meal of our Vancouver trip ended up being Mean Poutine. Why? Well, our flight got delayed (one hour of de-frosting, are you kidding me!) so we couldn't even make it to Guu. Then we tried to go to The Moose Vancouver but their kitchen stopped serving food at 1:30am (laaaaaaaame) so that left us with Mean Poutine. We were starved so we decided to get a couple things even though I'm not the biggest fan of poutine. Mean Poutine has some crazy late hours (11am-4am) so you know, at least, that they'll be open after you stumble home from the bar. Definitely would be better after a night out clubbing and/or drinking. It did the trick for us after our uber long flight. We shared: - Fried chicken poutine ($9) - brown gravy, fresh cheese curds, and buffalo chicken chunks. Not sure you could call these "fresh" cheese curds but hey, this ain't Montreal. - Southern BBQ poutine ($10) - slow roasted pulled pork, double smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce and ranch dressing. I found the BBQ sauce a bit too sweet. - Crispy fries ($4.50) - probably overdid it with all the fries we ordered but these were really good. Nice and hot, crunchy, add ketchup and you're good to go. It was my last night in Canada and I hadn't tried poutine yet. This was right outside the apartment I was staying at. Its a great choice for people on the go considering they only have a front window. I tried the philly cheese steak and the classic. My only regret it not getting this every single day I was in Canada. The fries are crispy and the gravy is so so good. They aren't skimpy with the toppings either. Everything is relatively pricey at ~10 an order and neither of the two poutines we got (mean surpreme and fried chicken) were particularly great. The fries were not very crispy and while smothered in delicious gravy, there weren't very many cheese curds. While visiting Canada, I couldn't leave without getting my hands on some poutine so we decided to check this place out. This establishment has a walk up and order at the window kind of set up. There is no sitting area. Outdoor standing room only. I decided to go with the classic poutine (fries, brown gravy, cheese curds). The portion size was just right and it came with a generous amount of curds. The fries were fried to a nice golden brown and soaked up the gravy nicely. Mean Poutine was right around the corner from where we were staying so we decided to give it a shot. I've had plenty of poutine when I was in Toronto but to be honest, this was sooo much better!! Here's my story: I had the fried chicken poutine from this place for the first time back in 2016 when I drove to Vancouver from LA for a road trip. I stayed at the Comfort Inn right next to it. I was randomly searching for what to eat after visiting some sightseeing places. And I found this place literally across the street from the hotel I stayed at. Bought an order of fried chicken poutine ate it while walking back to my hotel room, finished the whole box in 7 minutes. That's how good it is. About the food: Huge huge portion. Normal appetite person probably could barely finish one order of poutine and would be full, in my own opinion. And cheap too. Regular fried chicken poutine costs $9 Canadian dollars for a box. Most important of all, it tastes good. Interesting side story on my 2019 visit: Took a ride to get there, told the driver my story. This place is great! It's more of a window with a counter with you to stand over and eat. I ordered a classic poutine to split. My order came out freshly made extremely quick. The fries were still crispy and the gravy was salty and flavorful. The cheese curds were added nicely throughout the box and were starting to melt slowly. This was only my second time I have tried poutine. The first time was the classic poutine in Toronto eons ago! It was my last day of this trip, so this comfort food was a must.  There are 7 set selections to choose from (including a vegetarian) plus a custom option where you can choose your mix of toppings. The mean supreme was an easy pick due to the combination of certified angus roast beef and doubled smoked bacon for $10.00. The ladies working were both friendly. I waited about 20 minutes for my order and I was the only one. When I got my order, I was surprised at the huge portion size.  The brown gravy to me was really good. Unlike the American counterpart, it tends to be salty. I thought the meat and veggies paired well together with the gravy. It reminded me of eating pot roast but with french fries. The fries were not that crispy as advertised. I ate them as soon as it was given to me. The mean supreme was very tasty. I would order it again, after trying the next 6 available poutines on the menu board. The only drawback to this place is that they don't offer any seating. I was visiting Vancouver for a few days and since I can't get poutine in the US, I went on a hunt for poutine *somewhere*. We called and googled and yelped and every place we found had a black mark against it (closed for staff BBQ, closed on a Monday, beef-based gravy, etc). We were despairing and aiming to find either a Harvey's or a Burger King and while trying to find the closest one in downtown Vancouver, we passed "Mean Poutine". I jumped out and rushed over and asked if their gravy is beef based or vegetarian-friendly, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear that it was veggie safe! I immediately ordered a classic poutine to go and the lady behind the counter was quick as a whip in getting me a box full of delicious fries, gravy and cheese curds. I immediately ran back to the car to partake of my delicious meal. My friend said she'd never heard sounds quite like the ones I was emitting. Suffice to say, I am ecstatic that we stumbled across Mean Poutine instead of having to fall back to Harvey's or BK. I know there are a LOT of poutine places downtown... but this place BEATS THEM ALL It's a little hole in the wall, right on the corner of Granville and Nelson, and right beside their direct competitor "Frites" My cousins and I split up, half of us went to Mean poutine, and half of us went to Frites. The fries at mean poutine WON in terms of 1) portion size 2) crispiness of the fries 3) thickness of the fries 4) flavour of the gravy 5) amount of cheese curds on top 6) bang for your buck. We also ordered a coke as well with it, and 1 box of the regular poutine was more than enough for 2 people to share! I was really craving a veggie dog and it was a Friday evening after work. I decided to stop here even though their veggie dog as $7!!! A full 2$ more than most places but I was under the weather and didn't backtrack to where I had seen them earlier (cheaper). And I decided to get fries too to make it a meal. First of all, the fries are Costco fries and these are polarizing. You either adore Costco fries or you don't. I don't but once I saw them I decided it was too late and felt bad canceling my order.
