Mecca Motors is great, especially if you have a Saab, and now all European cars. I think I first went here when I had a 1979 Saab 99. I have a 1998 9000CSE now, 28 yrs old. It had a mystery electrical problem draining the battery. It was tough to find the problem. Chuck found it! It's such a relief to go to use the car knowing it will start! I had a couple of other things fixed, too. Chuck and Anthony, and the others, know what they're doing, and charge a fair price. They never make fun of having an old car. This garage is horrendous! Yes they turned my car around quickly when it broke down, but then lessened a bolt so I would have to come back. On return told me the job would cost me over £200!!!!! Went to a reputable garage who then confirmed the bolt had been loosened, tightened it I'm seconds and sent me on my way free of charge!!!!!!!! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Thean that works here has no morals, he saw a baby seat in my car abd still tampered with it. I cried when he told me how much it was going to cost and he was still happy to try and rip me off!!! My daughter took her car in to get the alternator replaced that on the book says 3 hours labor. Chuck told her that he will charge her $125 for 4 hours and if she brings her own part in then he will charge her for 5 hours. I called him and asked him why do you charge an extra hour if she brings her own part in and his answer was that's how I make money and hung up on me. My Volvo S60 received great care at Mecca Motors. It was very simple to schedule appointment via telephone call. The car needed 100,000 service and belts replaced and two tires. I've been coming to Mecca Motors (Wooding's Garage) since 2014. It's a father-son team and they're incredible. They've saved my car three times. I've stopped going anywhere else for mechanical work on my car. The reason why I like these guys is that they have very low, competitive prices, they're quick, and they're extremely patient. Most mechanics aren't patient at all or can't wait to tell you everything that's wrong with your car. It's obvious they're trying to upsell you. One place even quoted me $4,700 to replace the clutch! That would have effectively totaled my car if I tried to fix it under insurance. Mecca Motors is doing a full clutch and flywheel replacement for under $2000. I took in the car on Monday, got a detailed report of what to fix on Tuesday morning, and the car will be finished on Wednesday. How's that for a quick turnaround time? Thanks, Anthony and Chuck! As a Saab owner, this is the ONLY place I will bring my car for any repairs. Their newer location (Waverly Rd) is a bit more challenging to find as I drove right by the entrance to the lot on my first visit to the location. Good news is that Waze was spot on with the location. The employees of Mecca are top notch. I have always received honest guidance and advice on repairs for my 2010 Saab. Prices for both parts and labor are quite competitive. They've always given me detailed explanations about the nature of repairs and why they are suggesting it. I've brought my car there for both large and small repairs, all completed in an efficient manner. If you're like me and may need wheels while you're waiting for your car to be fixed, with advanced planning, you can arrange for one of their free loaners. They are extremely old Saabs, but they run well and even have a transponder for the tolls! That's been a wonderful benefit of bringing my car to them. All my repairs have been completed in a day. On one occasion, they did have to order parts and they were very proactive in keeping me notified on the timing of the parts' arrival. I came here initially on a recommendation from a co-worker and fellow Saab owner and I am so grateful to have received that recommendation. read more

I drive a Saab...yea, I know, I'm a weirdo. I love my car but sometimes it doesn't love me back and decides to fall apart on me. Granted it's never catastrophic but it's still a pain in the ass when it happens. Chuck, the owner, and the guys at Mecca, Alex, another Chuck, and I forget the older gentleman's name, are amazing. They all have decades of experience with these quirky Swedish cars and you can tell that they really do love the brand. It's a real hole in the wall and there are probably a few holes in their walls but if the work is good and the price is right, what else matters? I've been taking my Saab here since I bought her a few years back. They've done everything from oil changes, to suspension work, to replacing my turbo. And everything has been done expertly, on time, and for hundreds cheaper than Charles River Saab charges. That's all I need. Ohh, and if you need a loaner, just let Chuck know ahead of time and he'll set you up with a classic..like the 91 9000 I got. That was a pretty cool experience. I recommend these guys for anything that your Saab might have wrong with it. I guess they do other Euro brands like BMW's (eew) now as well. I'd give them more stars but Yelp won't let me. Ok..I'll admit I am not happy when I have to use Mecca Motors..but only because it means my '97 saab needs repair and I'm, as a result, taking the god-awful 66 bus in the rain (why does it always rain when my car is in the shop?!). Anyway, the guys at Mecca do an awesome job. Both times I have needed something fixed it has been an emergency- car broke down and left me stranded, and they have taken the car right away. They are honest about what the car needs and both times I've dropped off the car they've offered a low-cost alternative to bandaid the problem if I can't afford the to completely fix the problem. (If you know anything about how expensive saabs are to repair you would really appreciate this!) The mechanics are also very vocal about how long the "bandaid" will last and when I will probably need to fix the problem entirely. I would 100% recommend Mecca Motors!! I took my daughter's Saab day after Christmas for suspension work and miscellaneous non critical items that I needed to addressed. I am a car enthusiast and wrench myself when time permits. I had taken our backup car, a 2003 9-3 Vector with 6 speed manual, to the local Volvo/Saab dealership for a series of issues and was dismayed by the cost, so I let the car sit for a while. Then I read on the Saab forums about Mecca Motors. As a mechanical engineer by training (but one who travels too much to work on my own car), I love these guys! Reasonable cost estimates, alternate diagnoses, excellent workmanship. They looked over the entire car, assessed systems and reviewed the status with me, giving me the confidence to invest in a vehicle with over 130,000 miles on it. The car drives great again! Although Mecca motors' hourly rate is high, but I have learned it the hard way that most cheap places try to make you pay a little more by making you fix unnecessary things. This is not the case with chuck at Mecca motors. Chuck is 100% clear about the costs and will call you before doing anything to confirm it with you. If something doesn't need to be changed, he won't do it. About Saabs, I should say again, Chuck knows what he's doing. Don't take your Saab to any mechanic, they'll screw it up. Giving a three-star rating because Anthony and Chuck are really nice guys and offer pretty good customer service (after determining that they couldn't get my car running, they let me keep it there for a week while I determined what to do, didn't charge me for looking at it, and moved the car out to the street for me so it could be towed over the weekend). However, I'm disappointed in the service to my car. They told me my car needed a new engine and recommended that I not even bother making repairs (which they said could be thousands of dollars), since it's a 2003 Passat with about 175,000 miles. In the end, I had it towed to another garage (in another state!) who got the car running for less than $250. I'm glad I got a second opinion, because otherwise I would have been scrambling to lease or buy a new car on short notice and would have had absolutely no trade-in value for my Passat. Bottom line: they're really nice guys, and they do seem knowledgeable. But I get the sense that they're pretty busy and don't want to spend more time with a car than they absolutely need to. They're not the guys who are going to stick with it and find a solution, in my experience anyway. Details: After the cold snap in January, my engine wouldn't turnover. Thinking it was a problem with the battery or the starter, I had my car towed to Mecca after reading great reviews from other VW drivers. Aside from the occasional trouble starting up in the cold, the car runs great, and I haven't had any major problems with the engine in the five years I've owned it. So I was shocked when I got a call from the garage telling me that the car was dead and needed a new engine. They said that there was no pressure in the cylinders and that the cost of taking the engine apart and identifying the problem could be up to $5000. The car had been running great before the cold, so I was surprised to hear this, but at the same time, it's a 15-year-old car so I thought this might make sense. I asked them if there was any sort of band-aid solution (even just to be able to get it to a lot to trade in), and they said no. I asked my dad, who is more knowledgeable about cars, for advice. He thought it just didn't make sense that the car would be running great one day and then suddenly need a new engine, regardless of the cold weather. He talked with his local mechanic (in Pennsylvania) who thought that trying to start the car unsuccessfully so many times in the cold might have fouled out the spark plugs (an easy, and cheap, fix). My dad talked with Mecca and asked them to try this -- they claimed that they had and that it hadn't worked. And perhaps they did! But in the end, my dad decided to tow my car back to PA to get worked on by his local guy so that we would know for sure. My dad's mechanic replaced all the spark plugs, one fan in the engine, and had the car running in one day. Cost less than $250. Once again, I'm so glad that I didn't take Mecca's assessment at face value and had someone who could help me figure out what to do. Yes, it's an old car, and yes, something else could go wrong with it at any moment. Maybe the work I had done to it in PA isn't a forever fix. But I'd rather make the occasional $250 or $500 repair to a pretty reliable old car than be paying $500 a month or more in insurance and car payments. That's just financial sense. Less than ideal that we had to rent towing equipment and drag the car 425 miles away to figure it out. read more

I've been using Mecca Motors since 2004. I could take my Saabs and Audi to places more convenient to where I live on the South Shore but I won't. The workmanship and fair pricing is second to none. My '06 9-5 recently needed a head gasket replaced. While Chuck was doing the work he also replaced a variety of other parts that were future fail points that would have required additional labor. Since Chuck was into the job already he did not charge me additional labor to replace the other parts. My only wish is that I could recommend more clients to him. Kirk A. read more
