Marc and Chris were amazingly responsive and flexible. My battery died and my schedule at the hospital is very challenging to fit in appointments like this. Marc was flexible and understanding in coordinating a convenient time to have the battery change. When I first called he was able to give me an accurate quote for the battery replacement and had the parts (which the Mini dealer could not even confirm with me over the phone when I called them). The price for the battery replacement was $150 less than the dealership and was done much more quickly at GPS than the Boston dealership offered me. They even have access to the dealership records for maintenance and were able to add on an oil change which was long overdue. Everyone was incredibly nice, fair, competent, and authentic. I've been coming here for a few years and brought my e46 wagon in to get the stuck hood latch/cable replaced and new brakes. The insane markup on OEM parts (didn't discuss using non-oem parts but that was my mistake I always forget) but charging me over 30% extra on OEM parts? Inflation is crazy right now but I do not understand being charged this much, this is bad even for dealership standards. $1250 for parts and labor for brake pads and rotors all around is highway robbery. As for the hood latch/cable, that was not taken care of: the hood struts were replaced and probably didn't even need replacing and I still can't get my hood open. Hard to get a hold of on the phone during business hours and I do not want to waste my time trying to get them to fix these mistakes Officially not returning, do not recommend. read more

Can't recommend GPS highly enough. I have been servicing my family's four BMWs here for over five years and have come to appreciate the team here greatly. I've used them for pre-purchase inspections every time I buy a car. These are serious, serious car folks - and they run a fair, honest, and reliable shop. A few things to note: - I'd say the crew here is superior to any BMW dealer. They race these cars for a living. They've seen everything. They eat, sleep, and breathe BMWs and Porsches (I've had a porsche serviced here as well when I had it). - Their advice is honest. Many times they have suggested something that clearly would result in a lower bill, but it made sense. That keeps me coming back. - They aren't cheap, but they are significantly less than the dealer and the "bang for buck" is high. I consider any dollar spent here a dollar well spent. I am confident that the most cost effective way to own a BMW is do the preventative maintenance with these guys and when there is a problem, take their advice. Lifetime cost of ownership will be the lowest possible that way and you'l be happy. - They keep their word. I've had dozens and dozens of service visits and 100% of the time the car is ready exactly when they said. Clearly there will be some exceptions, but as a rule they do as they say. read more

I recently purchased an '05 Boxster that I bought in NJ. Before buying it, I had a local Porsche dealer in NJ perform a pre-purchase inspection. They gave the car a "good to purchase" along with a list of recommended repair/maintenance items which totaled about $6000. When the car arrived in the Boston area, I immediately booked an appointment at GPS. They performed even more than the list proposed by the Porsche dealer for under $4000. More important than price, I believe they treat every vehicle like it's their own and clearly explain everything. I'm convinced their expertise exceeds that of the Porsche dealerships. I previously had a starter replaced on my 3-series here. I knew it was going bad, so I had already purchased a new starter for when it gave out. When it eventually did, I had the car towed to German Performance Service for the replacement based on the online reviews. 1. They gave a fair price for the starter replacement and gave a quote before doing the work. 2. They gave attitude when I said I had my own part already. Clearly every shop makes money on the parts and they do too. 3. They gave major attitude when I wanted to see and start the car before paying. "We just pulled it around, so it's obviously starting." 4. A week later I checked under the hood for something else and realized they didn't connect the airbox appropriately. Exactly why I always check my car before paying. It may have been an accident, but it's a pretty easy job for a German car specific shop to connect an airbox correctly. Not sure it worth the attitude for this shop. Plenty of other places that do better work too. read more

This is my second time having GPS service my BMW 2010 328i XDrive and I can tell you all of the positive reviews here are 100% spot on. The team is knowledgeable, thorough, patient and most importantly - HONEST. They answered all of my meddling, noobish questions patiently and comprehensively. I brought in my car because it was shuddering while accelerating at certain speeds, especially going uphill. I explained the issue and one of the gentlemen there immediately got a look of recognition when he saw the description of the problem on the computer screen. He said it was related to the transmission somehow. They said they would take the car out for a spin and see what was up. About a day later, Taylor (awesome knowledgeable gal at the front desk) called me and said it was indeed the transmission and that they were going to diagnose the issue by changing the fluid itself before proceeding with more expensive repairs. Respect for that - testing to find the issue. One day later after they drove the car around, they got back to me and told me the good news - it was only the fluid which needed to be changed with a special lubricant added to help out the transmission. Only a few hundred dollars total for that service. And here is where I come back to honesty. These folks are the real deal. Any less scrupulous shop would have told me the entire transmission was shot and that it needed to be repaired or replaced costing $8,000 or more, basically more than the value of the car itself. Not GPS. These folks really watch out for you and your wallet and this is partially why I've gone back to them instead of the "big guys" in Boston. GPS is honest, reliable and gets the job done right at a fair price. I think other dealers would have charged double or more for what GPS did. The end result - my car absolutely purrs. It's odd because while the shuddering issue was intermittent before it was fixed, I didn't realize it was affecting the car's overall performance. Before I brought it into GPS' shop, it behaved differently and only realized that after it got fixed. Now it has more snap and silk to it. It just feels like a better car now. It even sounds different, more menace and aggression which I love. Don't go to the big guys, there is no need. Just make an appointment with GPS. Their competitors are overcharging or are probably being dishonest. GPS is all you need for your foreign car needs. You'll be glad to have them work on your ride. read more

I brought a 2017 Macan in for an oil change. Rob did the work and noticed an oil leak from the timing belt cover... interestingly, I had the car serviced at the dealer 4 months prior (last one while under warranty...) and they did not pick this up... no surprise, right? So, Rob did some research on the issue and found out that the suspected problem was due to defective bolt heads breaking off, causing the cover to loosen and leak. He told me that the recommended repair procedure by Porsche was to pull the engine, replace gasket and bolts! Since my warranty was barely expired, he suggested I go to the dealer and address the problem, as the repair would be very expensive... I did just that and he was right on the money with the problem and work procedure. Hi marks for honesty and thoroughness!! read more

I love these guys. I had been taking my 2007 R56 Mini Cooper S to the dealership, which I know is overpriced, but I didn't want to risk an unknown mechanic. When I finally started hitting the first round of major replacements (water pump etc) and was quoted at a couple thousand by the dealer, I decided to shop around. These guys are really the only shop that seemed reputable enough to risk it and I'm so pleased that I did! As with basically any shop, the prices were much better than the dealer, and I actually think the service was much better. They gave me a more detailed explanation of each of my issues, and they were very thorough in the repairs. There are not as many cushy fringe benefits as the dealer, this is definitely a smaller shop, but I think the much better service for my car is worth it. read more

My engine overheated and when trying to figure out where to send my car, I called around and talked to GPS. They told me that they were pretty busy, and probably couldn't see it for 4 business days. I asked if they could recommend anyone else, they gave me a number for another shop. I called that shop, they were kind of jerks and were far, and when I asked shop 2 for a recomendation, they told me they don't do that (unlike the guys at GPS who were just trying to help me out). I decided a wait was worth taking it to GPS. Turns out the damage was pretty bad, and after a little phone tag, they gave me their assesment free of charge that it'd cost too much to fix. These guys are very honest and I'm inclined to get a Mini or a BMW as a replacement car solely because I've found a mechanic I can trust. read more

German Performance has been my 'go to' for years for repairs to my 1993 525i BMW. Rob, Marc and team mechanics are experts and great to work with. Unlike the BMW dealerships or 'steal-erships', they are honest, straightforward and don't suggest doing unnecessary work. They actually suggest creative ways to save money! Added bonus: everyone is nice, personable and values each client, regardless of the size of the repair. And, they treat women the same as men. Marc and his team do a fantastic job. when I got my Porsche, 2 days went by and the engine was smoking. Marc diagnosed it quickly and was able to fix the vehicle along with a couple more minor issues next day, and for probably half the cost a dealer would. The knowledge, the cleanliness of the shop are definitely positives. When I needed a place to store the car for the winter, Marc was able to offer a suggestion to me. My BMW had its first service after the 4 year maintainence plan ran out and I was dismayed that in addition to the service the dealership said the car had an oil leak and needed a pretty major repair. This repair involved replacement of an engine gasket, drive belt and hoses and they quoted me around $2500. Thankfully I did some research and found the great guys at German Performance Service. Marc's initial email estimate (just based on what the dealership had told me) was about $1200 and my final bill was around $730. Rob and Marc were great to work with and it's clear that everyone there really knows these vehicles inside out. They actually try to save you money while doing high quality work. I drive a BMW e36 M3. Marc, of German Performance Service is my Mechanic: "If you have the means, I highly suggest you get one...and take it to Marc to be properly maintained, and pampered. It is so choice." LOL :) Seriously, I recently bought a tasty BMW M3 from a friend of mine. The car had been meticulously maintained, so at about 80,000 miles (right around the time when the S50 engine just begins to gel), my friend decided to have some fun! He heard Marc at GPS ran a great garage ~ so he went to GPS to see what they had to offer. At the time, the car was ready to get new shocks, brakes, & a clutch, ect. After speaking to Marc, needless to say- he was impressed and decided his M3 would receive ALL the "tasteful" upgrades and necessities, which a OBD1 e36 M3 truly deserves. So Marc & his skilled mechanics at GPS went to work, and made this M3 even more fun and comfortable to drive. The suspension Marc chose is just wicked! The car now handles better then new I believe, & soaks up the bumps like an old Jag! The performance parts Marc recommended (after he was asked), added 50HP, while maintaining reliability & great MPG's- even during spirited driving.. which is quite often! From one Car Fan to another~ GPS offers professional, honest, & timely work. Can't recommend Marc highly enough. Scheduled a battery replacement and on the way to his shop my 08 m5 went nuts, throwing a ton of warnings. Assumed (more like hoped) it was something to do with the battery. Marc very quickly knew better - and found water in the trunk which had trashed a few control boxes. (Car had been at BMW 2 weeks before- they recommended the new battery but where oblivious to the water) He and his team where great and sorted through the issue, even staying late on a Friday so I'd have a car on the weekend. read more

There is a place out there with real PROS, that live and breath these cars, they know it inside out, like the back of their hands. Knowing what they worth, and how much they save you, they are so honest, will never take advantage of or exploit a costumer I took my 2012 MNI S there for front sway bar bushings replacement, after getting an outrageous estimate at the dealership. I ended up getting a much better, much faster job. Much nicer treatment, it was like hanging out with friends. When I asked if I can, Marc, the owner, escorted me into the shop to take a look my car being fixed, which you will never experience at the dealership. When I saw the bill, I had the biggest smile on my face, and all I could say is THANK YOU!! I'll be going back!!! read more

German Performance's service manager and their technician whom I've dealt with are ok but I found they are lake of courtesy. My 1st visit experience a few years ago was positive but their service has been declining ever since once I've became their regular customer. I suppose, they only treated you "better" when they wanted your business. Furthermore, sadly to report that the owner Marc is extreme arrogant and disrespectful to his customers!! Marc shows no sympathy and couldn't care less about your car trouble. I found Marc is very unpleasant to talk and deal with. My overall experiences with 'German Performances Service' is negative. This is only a preliminary review of German Performance Service, as I've only visited them once at their old location. There is no doubt Marc knows his stuff... former race engineer at Turner Motorsports .. or you can just talk shop to him. Prices are pretty reasonable, and if I remember correctly you can bring your own parts. I had my control arm bushings and control arm replaced. The car also received an alignment. However, after receiving the car I noticed it wanted to wander to the right slightly. The steering wheel also isn't 100% centered although it is very close. Upon asking about this, I was told that the alignment was definitely done correctly and that it could be a tire issue, or maybe the car had some bodywork done before. This was somewhat of a disappointing response for a first visit and I did not pursue the matter any further. After swapping out to my winter set, the issue was still there. Being that I didn't have this bias after my previous alignment at a high end alignment shop in NJ , I don't think it's some frame issue (car has never been in a serious accident that I know of either). As a result, I'm only giving GPS 3 stars. I do think they are the successors to Albright's Might Motors in Cambridge for BMW work in the area. Should I need help with my vehicle again, I will consider trying them out again and will update the review and rating accordingly. read more

These guys are the best! As an owner of a 2011 Mini, it can be frustrating to find a mechanic who knows his/her way around these little cars that come up with a lot of problems 100k+ miles on. Going to Herb Chambers in Boston was driving me out of my mind! This garage is fair and friendly. I came up short on oil and although they didn't have an appointment open to change it, they topped me off until an opening the next week so I could drive to and from work. The only downside is that they get more business than they can handle, meaning it can be 2+ weeks before you can get into the shop. read more

I own a 2002 BMW M3 E46. I don't normally write reviews, but GPS has done an exceptional, quick, and reasonably priced job twice in less than two months, and their work and shop needs to be recommended and highlighted in some way. My most recent episode had my starter dying over Veteran's Day weekend. With nowhere to tow my car, I parked it outside their shop, hoping to negotiate with them on Monday and schedule it eventually. They were extremely accommodating, fixing my car and back on the road, squeezing me into their packed schedule. I personally feel that they are honest, trustworthy, and will always do what is necessary first, while also advising of likely potential future issues. This is reinforced by the fact that everyone who works there works on the car. You may talk mostly with Rob or Marc or billing and parts, but knowing those two also work on cars adds credibility and flexibility to be able to discuss with anyone there issues you want to address. You won't feel pressured into doing anything either. I'm glad that I found out about this shop and I think that their following and reputation will continue to grow. I don't plan on taking my car anywhere else. Word of advice: if your car needs work, it'll take 1-2 weeks to get it scheduled. Call early! Also, if you have the parts, I'm told they will do the work at their rate - very fair arrangement! read more

Truly a great shop for German cars! My BMW started shaking pretty bad one day on a highway and upon doing some research, I decided to give GPS a try as I have just moved to Boston recently. I was a little bit worried first because based on the internet there were several possible reasons for the problem and some options could be pretty pricey. But the staff there was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and fixed the problem pretty quick with a very reasonable price. Definitely NOT one of those shops that try to rip people off! read more
