I have been frequenting this location more during COVID than ever before. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Of course, social distancing measures are in place and that means that you cannot enter the store to browse like you used to be able to do. Instead, you wait outside, 6 feet apart and wait your turn. Then tell the worker what you want and what size bottle. It's helpful to know what you want to purchase beforehand, but they are willing to give suggestions if needed. When they have pulled your order, you'll be called inside to head to the register to pay. If you want anything from behind the register, mini bottles and such, this is the time to ask for them. Once they ring you up you may be asked to wait in line for additional items. Be sure to use your back to exit the door - no hands! read more

This ABC store is in a good location, conveniently located in Midtown. Every time that I've been, they normally have a good supply of liquor available. They are one of the ABC stores that carry a good amount of unordinary types of liquors. The staff is helpful, similar to most ABC stores. The parking lot is slightly on the smaller side and can sometimes be a hassle on weekends and busy days, since it is shared with Original House of Pancakes. But nonetheless, still a great location for a quick pickup. There are many other stores in the area (Target, Trader Joe's, Best Buy, etc), so it is super convenient to grab everything you might need. read more

Stopped by to pick up some goods for the Super Bowl. The cashier was nice and the store was clean and had a large variety. The prices are on the higher side but they do run sales on certain items from time to time. Amble parking so feel free to drive. read more

This is the new location of store #4 that was previously at 1436 E Morehead. It's moved to Cherry and E. 3rd Street, just off Kings Road, now known as the "liquor side" of Target. The ABC's in town look like brand new stores, with convenient parking and are well lit and very clean. Fun fact: ABC stands for Alcohol Beverage Control. The Mecklenberg County ABC Board controls the ABC system. Quoth the ABC website: "In North Carolina, spirits are only sold in ABC stores and the only thing sold in them. Beer and wine are available at grocery stores and other specialty or convenience stores. " So if you're new in town, remember, if you're making Irish Car Bombs, Jaeger Bombs or almost any kind of bomb for that matter, you'll want to make two stops on the way to the party. This is one of the newest (if not THE newest) ABCs in town. And it's also very clean and modern. I stopped there the other night for the first time on my way to a party to get some vodka. So many to choose from. Oy. Because I found a mail-in rebate while in the store, I went with some new Pearl brand (pomegranate flavored) I had never heard of. It was pretty good and I saved some money in the process. At least I didn't show up with a cheap, plastic bottled vodka (yes, they have those, too!). read more

This place makes me want to drink the hooch 24/7! When I first moved to NC, I was taken aback by the whole ABC Store thing going on. In AZ I could go to the grocery store, grab some tomatoes, US Weekly and vodka and be on merry way. But when I moved here I quickly learned that was a no-go. So maybe once a year, I hit up the ABC store for my adult beverage needs. Maybe it's because I don't drink as much as the hard stuff as I used to or that I feel like an alcoholic walking into one? I can confidently say I am usually one of the only people walking out of there with one bottle of booze. People stock up and you would think they are shopping at Trader Joe's instead of the ABC store. But God bless because they are using reusable bags! Anywho, this is like the classiest ABC store I've ever seen with well lit rows of alcohol that would even make a Mormon smile. Add some white walls to the well lit store and it reminds me of the 80's. That plus the fact that they always card me makes me like feeling like an alcoholic! read more

I've never experienced anything like this. As I'm visiting friends out of town I stopped by the closet liquor store to purchase gifts. The lady at the counter refused service because I was with my 25 year old daughter who didn't have her ID. Yet the sign said minors under 17 can enter if accompanied with and adult. I am a 42 year old responsible parent no one in the liquor store could fathom why we were being refused service. When I questioned the sign stating minors were allowed the lady behind the counter went to get her manger. Who then rather rudely said he wasn't servicing me if she wasn't. Leaving me to question why she went to ask for his assistance in the first place. read more

Well it's a liquor store! What could possibly be bad about it? The staff is super helpful, everything is neat and organized. They have a huge parking lot (beware the homeless people asking for money tho!) I have never waited a long time in line here and have never left not being able to find what i was looking for. What's the deal with having two parking lots? Maybe one is meant for deliveries? Regardless, customers use both. The first (closer to the road) is more convenient. The second is more spacious. Take your pick. Inside, this liquor store is like all the other state-run outlets except the staff is a bit friendlier. That is probably a function of primarily dealing with the upper-class alcoholics of Myer's Park rather than the more scraggly alcoholics of North Tryon. Case in point: I once saw beautiful, Channel scented businesswoman, hands shaking, buy three mini bottles before noon. Nothing livens up that midday coffee like a shot of Johnnie Walker Black! Your mini-bottle clientele at other locations are going to be somewhat different. As ABC stores go, this one is fine. It doesn't have the selection that a privately run enterprise would provide, but you can't find that anywhere in the state. read more

I don't often visit the ABC store but I knew what I wanted. The staff member was very helpful in directing me to the correct location. While perusing the store, another staff member offered assistance. Once up front, with three people in line, yet another staff member quickly opened a second register. Great service! I thought about starting (on Yelp) reviewing the ABC in Cotswold. But then I thought, "Why? They're all the same." And that's not a bad thing. When I first heard that liquor and beer had to be sold at separate locations in NC, I was a bit peeved. Liquor laws like those that necessitate the ABC stores usually do nothing more than annoy the casual drinker. However, in Michigan where liquor and beer can be sold just about anywhere, most liquor stores are a bit skeevy. If you want a bottle of liquor, you either have to venture into a rough neighborhood and request to the man behind the counter something like, "Yeah, the bottle there. Yep, right above the Juggs magazine." Or, you can find the same bottle in a nice neighborhood for $5 more. ABC sort of cuts that out of the equation. You'd better get there on the right day, and it'd better be before they close, but it's a consistent and fair price, a nicely laid store and a great selection. For those reasons, I've actually grown to like the government run store idea. Now if they could only let me buy liquor during the hours I'd like to drink it, I'd be in full support. read more

There can never be enough Brass Monkey at my parties, so when I want/need to get my drink on this is the place to go to pick up my Fifths and Half Gallons of "juice." Word to your mother............ Neat, clean, and staff willing to help you get your drink on...these places are probably the best example of how tax dollars SHOULD be spent. This is the worst ABC store I have ever been to. The inventory was terrible, but what made my experience so bad was the woman working at the counter. She told me I copped an attitude when I handed her my ID after she asked for it. I literally said "here ya go" and she went "don't be like that" - like what? I was LITERALLY handing you my ID. Wow. This is the nicest liquor store I've ever seen. The new store is clean and features over-the-top displays for certain brands of liquor. Plus, it's still weird to me that you can buy beer and wine - but not liquor - at a grocery store. And then these state-run ABC stores sell ONLY liquor. I've noticed that this means I rarely buy liquor nowadays. Keep in mind, all ABC stores are closed on Sundays and they're only open till 9 pm on other days. I've been a lot of people running into the store at 8:55 on a Saturday night. read more

The bad: The selection is limited, the prices are high. The good: the place is organized, well-lit and the staff is EXTREMELY friendly and helpful. Also, the revenues help fund the community, so you're actually doing a good deed by drinking yourself silly. BUT, if you can spare an extra fifteen minutes roundtrip, get thee down to the Frugal MacDoogal's off the I-77 just south of the border with South Carolina. Of course I like coming here it's a room filled with endless drink possibilities! I do particularly like this location due to its super friendly staff and close proximity to my house and trader joes so that way I have an excuse to go to each one when I'm in the area I mean I'm already there right? They have all the liquors you could want or imagine however a larger selection of mixers would be nice not to mention more convenient. Parking is a bit of an issue its not awful and with people in and out of the store if you're patient you'll get a spot in no time at all and if I'm not mistaken there seems to be an extra lot to the left of the building but I haven't checked it out myself yet I only just noticed it the other day. Pricing is normal since it's the same across the state but if you want a little better deal you can make the hike to South Carolina but by the time you do that you could have already come here gone home and made a martini! read more

One of the better ABC stores I have visited in NC. Very clean and organized with a great staff. Always friendly and quick to make recommendations. When I'm not going to SC to stock up the liquor cabinet, this is my stop. Check out the locally distilled spirits toward the center of the store. They have a few shelves full of NC products - rum, vodka, and of course, moonshine. Yes, this location is small compared to some of the other ABC stores but it's also located on the outskirts of uptown. Everything is smaller, whether it's the Harris Teeter, the CVS or the local liquor shop. Despite its size, this store has all of the basics and then some. On top of that, the employees are super helpful and friendly. It can feel a bit cramped but I really don't spend hours browsing around for booze. My only star reduction is for size, but even so, I've never left without an item I've had on my list! read more

This is my go to liquor store based on its location. It has everything you need/want and the prices are average. The parking is a little bit of a mess, but not too bad if you go after OPH closes. Inside the store there is pretty limited real estate, so the line tends to wind throughout the aisles, especially if you go during prime time. Most convenient liquor store to me, right outside of uptown. Very clean and there is always a security patrol roaming about. The staff is all English-speaking, knowledgeable and extremely friendly. To me, this is a large liquor store but apparently to others it is very small. They do not have as large a mixer (daiquiri, bloody mary, etc.) selection as other liquor stores I've visited but they seem to always have what I'm looking for - usually fireball and/or tito's. read more
