Very disappointing Tuesday night burger dinner. Given the high quality of their ingredients, meats etc for purchase and great results with Reid's catering, it obviously doesn't translate to the food and presentation in the restaurant. Almost nothing was done in the style of a restaurant where a manager or employee would be overseeing plates coming from the kitchen to be served. We each ordered same burger- medium with crisp bacon. Each was well done with limp bacon. Burgers were overly salted. One plate, as in photo, had an end tomato slice that shouldn't have been served to a customer. Our server did bring up a slice of pie to help make up for dinner. That was nice. read more

That will be burned in my mind for a long time. Let's explain what happened. I work nearby and figured " it's 9:30 am time for a quick bite" so I go to Reid's. They open at 7 am mind you, and the deli section is almost ready , so we order a couple of sandwiches. Well, they tell me " we are working on a pick-up order now so you'll have to wait. " 15 mins later, still waiting. So people who walk in are not prioritized, they wait for the call in orders. So, as I stand there waiting, I get to witness how the orders are prepared. I watched one lady make a salad using her hands to grab and touch every ingredient, no tongs. Was she wearing gloves? Yes, the same gloves she touches her face with, her hat, and wiped on her Green apron. She grabbed new salad containers , threw the outside packaging in the trash, fixed her hat, and continued touching the salads. Like really getting in there. Then would go to the case and grab with her hands more lettuce. All WITHOUT CHANGING HER GLOVES!!! Disgusting. They have let the training of there people slide. Someone needs to start training staff on safe food handling or they need to shut down. They are going to make people sick. So, now it's my turn to watch my sandwich being made. Let's just say I stopped them and canceled the order. I will not be ordering from them in person or over the phone/web. And don't get me started that as we were pointing this out the manager/owners just walked by without a care in the world. read more

Decided to make a reservation here for a group of 6 people and had no issue with that or getting seated on time. The staff was very friendly and the store was clean. The menu selection for the restaurant isn't that big, and the food wasn't bad. The fresh food from the counter all looked very good even though I didn't get anything to go. The desserts in the display case also looked amazing. There is a good selection of products here, but I found some things to be a bit on the pricey side, but I guess good quality doesn't come cheap. read more

Ballantyne Location Review: The grilled Caesar salad with steak was delicious! The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare, but the burger was dry and overcooked after requesting medium. The added touch of live music was nice. However, the lighting in the space was too bright and didn't create a relaxing mood. Additionally, it was a bit distracting to see an employee working at a table with papers spread out, while another employee was eating at a table in the bar area. Oh my goodness, what a fabulous lunch spot. They truly do have fine foods here. There's literally something for everyone! This review is not for the restaurant part but the fresh food counter orders and market. While I really like their sandwiches they are very expensive for what they are. $15 after tax with no sides for just a regular size sandwich. And their breakfast items are very pricey too..$10 for a breakfast sandwich or burrito. I would come here multiple times a week if the prices were $2 to $3 less to be competitive with other places but for now I will only visit occasionally. read more

Service here was absolutely wonderful! Our server was quick, attentive, and polite. Came here with a friend for brunch this past summer and it was certainly a delight. However, my food was okay. I ordered the avocado toast and it was served on some wacko bread. The only way I can describe it is like as if tofu were bread--bit of an odd texture, kinda blocky, and pretty flavorless. Next time I will definitely be trying something else. Place is in a super convenient location though, and it's a pretty restaurant. I don't often write negative reviews but I was just so disappointed! I bought their frozen "beef lasagna" to make for a nice dinner postpartum. The directions said bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes if cooking from frozen. Well it took 2 HOURS and that was after cutting it into quarters and cranking the oven up to 450. Then, once we started eating it I realized there wasn't a cheese layer at all?? Whut. I was so disappointed. For $25 bucks I was expecting something nice! Reid's is a really solid spot that I'm happy to have in the Southpark neighborhood! We went on a warm (for January) Friday evening and were seated out on the patio where we could listen to the live music. The dinner menu has a good variety of staples like salads, pizzas, sandwiches, and entrees. There's also a decently-sized wine list. I ordered a glass of the Reid's Rosé along with the PEI fresh mussels, which I found to be a very good portion, as long as you're not starving. I really enjoyed the crostini as well as the addition of the gnocchi along with the mussels in the flavorful coconut curry sauce (which has quite a kick to it from jalapeños). My husband got the rigatoni bolognese, which is the ultimate comfort food. It was prepared so well, and I loved the rich, warm flavor. We ate up the plate. For dessert, we ordered the double decker tiramisu on the dessert menu, but our server let us know they didn't have that anymore. Then our server asked if we'd like to go into the market with her to look at the options in the display case. Why yes, we do! Once there, she made some recommendations, and we went with the banana pudding cheesecake. Loved this cheesecake-y take on a Southern classic. I'll happily return to Reid's! read more

So, "Fine Foods"? Yes, they have a lot of nice gourmet items on the shelves and in their refrigerator cases. What they don't have is a decent Italian sandwich. I elected for the "Spicy Italian" which was supposed to pressed panini-style on a baguette. What I got was a very dry sandwich on what seemed to be a stale roll. The lettuce was brown, and tasted awful, there were like three banana pepper rings (only on one-half) maybe four or five pieces of red onions. There was literally a drop or two of a balsamic vinaigrette. For allegedly being "pressed", it really wasn't. I saw the person make the sandwich and put it in the press, but it never got warmed up. Not a good experience, YMMV and maybe I'll try it again but it's not on the top of my list of places to eat. read more

I purchased a "Gourmet to go" item at Reid's and paid about $30. Followed the directions perfectly. It was so dry, that I had to make a sauce to incorporate into it before I could serve it to my family. I would have been mortified if I had picked this up for a dinner for guests. It has been about a week since I bought it, kept it frozen of course, but tossed the receipt. It had good flavor and good intent but I think it was just frozen for too long. Dried out. No expiration date. I have contacted the original chef operation/bistro to let them know that Reid's is failing them. This is the second or third time this has happened to me with Reid's. As a Charlotte native for almost 60 years, love them but this is inexcusable. I will not buy their frozen items again. Be careful. read more

The food was amazing . My sister and I sat out in the patio. The weather was perfect that day. We split a sand which with a side salad. The food was amaing. They were very busy so the waitress never came to refill waters or chcek on us. I always have a hard time swallowing food so need a lot of water. I ended up having to drink my sisters water but other then the lack of follow up we loved the place. The inside was very pretty lots of yummy things to look at. Reid's is my go-to spot for a quick lunch, but expect to spend no less than $20 for your salad and a drink. This place is not cheap but I think the quality and freshness is worth it. I love their counter ordering system for salads/sandwiches, and they have a ton of pre-made delicious looking goodies including chicken salad, pasta salads, etc. I think you pay by weight so keep an eye out for that, because it adds up quick. My favorites right now are the cobb salad and grilled chicken Caesar wrap. We ate at Reid's Fine Foods on Barclay Downs tonight. It had been a while since we last ate there; over a year. At the time, I thought the wine being served at the bar was poor quality for the price they were charging, per glass. That wine served tonight was very good. I ordered a glass of cabernet and it was worth the price. My wife ordered a jalapeno margarita and it was also very good! The same was not true for the food served. We ordered a brisket sandwich, a chicken spiedie sandwich, and a cheese burger. The brisket sandwich bun was so soggy, I ate the whole thing with a knife and fork. However, the brisket was well-cooked, tender, and the BBQ sauce was very good. The sandwich had cole slaw heaped on it. If the cole slaw on the sandwich had been on the side of the plate, the bun would not have been soggy when served. My side of mustard cole slaw had loads of mayonaise but very little, if any, mustard. The chicken in the chicken spiedie was overcooked; burned. The truffle fries were served cold. The cheese burger (the steakburger) was ordered as medium but was served overcooked (well done) and the bun was burned. The service at the bar was exceptional. Sandy was efficient and pleasant taking orders and bringing drinks. She has an excellent memory, too. But unfortunatley, Sandy was not enough for the customers. The bar needs employee's to BACK THE BAR. This restaurant used to be lively on a Friday night. Not any more. There were seats at the bar and empty tables. Perhaps most disturbing was the dishwasher in the bar. We watched this device unloaded and the martini glasses had water in them when the washer was unloaded. You can never go wrong with Reid's! They have some delicious food & drinks. The one in South Park has specials weekly and live music! The staff is very friendly and I enjoy coming every time. I've never had any issues with my food and have liked everything that I've tried. I love sitting outside at the bar when the weather is nice. You can hear the music but it's not too loud. Came here for a weekend brunch. We had a reservation for 11 am, when they open, and I'm glad we did! There was already a line formed at the host stand at 1105. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait a couple minutes to be seated as they had just gotten very busy and needed some "time to catch up." No big deal, we walked around the shop anyways. We had the option to sit inside or outside, choosing inside due to the humidity. My husband and I passed on drinks, choosing water instead. The staff kindly kept our water glasses full and even gave us 4 cups of water for our party of 2. I had the chicken and waffle sandwich this visit. It was very good! It was white meat chicken with a small amount of breading, keeping the chicken so juicy! It had a small spicy kick to it as well that tasted great with the sweat syrup. The waffles were fluffy and tasted good with the sandwich as well as just when taking bites sans meat. My husband had the breakfast biscuit bomb.. which today was a bowl filled with sausage gravy, and a whopping biscuit filled with egg, bacon, spinach, and then topped with cheese. This dish was good as well, but I had trouble with the gravy. It was overloaded with rosemary flavor and it was like no other gravy I had tasted. I could only take small bites at a time. I dropped by, solo, on a Saturday. I was quickly seated and received water, and learned that wines by the bottles were half price. No much of a dilemma - $14 for a glass or $25 for a bottle. I ordered a poke tuna taco appetizer and a bottle of a Graves red wine. The three mini tacos were tasty but hard to eat. The shells were fried and the pickled onions and cucumber had a lot of liquid. My first bite exploded the taco shell and filled my palm with sticky liquid. I drained the other tacos before I cautiously bit in and avoided the messiness. Minus one star. The wine was excellent. I drank a single glass, re-corked and brought it home. Service was good but tables were close and the wait staff was challenged to deliver food without jostling tables. Ambience is about what you expect when you dine in a grocery. While at Reid's, I strolled through the grocery section and wound up buying food for dinner. I selected three 1-lb beautifully trimmed ribeye steaks, first cut from the chuck end. I grilled outside for four adults and two children. I also purchased zucchini to grill and potatoes to bake from Reid's so we were set. The steaks were truly excellent and the same price I pay at my local butcher. And the wine went just as well with steak as with raw tuna. read more

I don't mind paying a high price for good food but I dislike paying a very high price for disappointing food. Also, none of the veggies are priced so you don't know the cost until they pack it. Brussels $17 pound- under cooked almost raw with absolutely no seasoning. This must be a good little money maker for Reid's! Greens $13 pound and again, no taste! The chicken seems like a value at $13 per pound and it might have been good had it not been extremely over cooked which made the chicken very very dry, almost uneatable. To make it worse, service was terrible in the back and front. Checkout had three young girls talking to each other not even acknowledging I was standing in line. Finally I interrupted their conversation and asked, if this was the check. Seriously lack of management on the floor and certainly in the kitchen. My cousin has a very specific wine that she loves and it is hard to find. She lives in South Carolina and I live in St. Louis, Mo. I happened upon Reid's market. I was transferred to the wine department and spoke with Peyton. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and more than happy to help me. Not only did he have the wine I wanted, he took notes and put together a beautiful gift basket that he had delivered to her the next day. He sent me pictures of the basket and had a hand written note with my sentiments attached. My cousin loved her basket and I can not thank Peyton enough for just being a nice person. read more

Be prepared for a food coma if you come for brunch! We arrived at 11am, and they were a bit behind seating patrons. We had a reservation for 11 but due to the staff being overwhelmed, we had to do a couple loops through the grocery to kill time before they were ready for us(a bit annoying, but it's a somewhat interesting place). After killing about 10 min, we were finally seated, and from that point on had great, friendly service! I ordered the Biscuit Bomb, and my wife had the Chicken n Waffles. The biscuit bomb might be one of my favorite concepts for a Brunch Biscuit ever. A gargantuan biscuit, covered in gravy, stuffed with spinach, eggs, bacon and tomato, and then covered with a massive slice of cheddar cheese. It's about as heavy a meal as you can find, and was quite tasty, although there was an overpowering rosemary flavor in the gravy which I had to scrape away to really enjoy everything else. The chicken and waffles were also taste bud tantalizing, especially when dabbing a lil syrup. The chicken was juicy, with just the right amount of spiced breading, and the waffles were crisp and airy, without being too bland. All in all a rib sticking solid brunch for a reasonable price. Despite being a Charlotte staple, I haven't been here a whole lot. I used to come grab a sandwich once a year, and they were always delicious. They sell a variety of charcuterie like foods, sauces, and accompaniments but all are on the pricier side. This time I ate in the restaurant which I never knew existed. I had an amazing burger with mushrooms and onions along with sweet potato fries. After having this meal, I might be back sooner than my annual visit. The burger was juicy, well seasoned, and cooked perfectly. The only "bad" thing which wasn't really that bad was how big the burger and toppings were. It's very messy and kind of hard to eat without using several napkins. But it is well worth it! You'll see me here again to order that burger. read more

**Sunday brunch review** I remember Reid's back when it occupied downtown right next to spirit square. I actually had to review the place as part of a summer school field trip for I think 3rd grade? Something like that... I'm not positive, but who ever knew that I would be writing about them again, except for a review of their brunch. (They didn't have a brunch back then) Anyways, after being recommended by my family and going for a Sunday brunch on a recent weekend trip here I was really surprised. The amount of food and options, the price point of $25/person was well justified. They had custom omelettes, frittatas, charcuterie, salmon, hashbrowns, Egg benedicts (I don't recommend this), salads, bacon, and last but not least fresh cut prime rib. The amount food was overwhelming, but I think it would be perfect for a hangover or after a night of drinking with a group of picky eaters. There's enough food everyone and the price also includes beverages (not alcohol) which I thought was also great. There was something for everyone's taste, and it wasn't like a buffet because to be honest anything you eat here you will probably get your money's worth when compared to other brunches. Overall, I would definitely recommend on coming here for brunch. Just make sure you reserve before, or else there won't be any seats left later in the morning when the church crowd gets out. read more
