I love Med Fresh -- their chicken donar, the vegetarian platter, the lentil soup -- all the stuff of dreams. But: The spinach salad on the new menu is hard to eat. Can there be anything worse? It's tart-on-tart with little relief. And such a shame! You get beautiful perfect spinach with red cabbage, and absolutely gorgeous feta. But it's dressed with balsamic vinegar and (I think) pomegranate juice, with no balancing element to reduce the bite and add another dimension. The effect is to exagerate that sensation you get from raw spinach that all of the surfaces of your mouth have been scoured. It was actually uncomfortable to eat. And expensive! After paying extra for pita, my lunch, with no meat or nuts on it, was over $10 -- no drink. Speaking of the bill -- this place is pretty pricey and inching up. It's always crowded, tho, so I guess they know their market. For me it's an occassional treat. That said, everything else at/about Med Fresh is wonderful -- hence the 4 stars. Updating to 5 stars. I've been coming here now for a few years, it's become my default place in the Phoenix Metro for good, inexpensive food. Everything consistently good. They served a new type of rice a few months ago, but last time I was there it was back to the old yellow rice ... not sure if they gave up on it. I preferred the new rice ... 'Turkish' style, they told me - white rice with small fried noodles broken up into it, if I recall correctly. Regardless - all good! It's a shame that Mill Ave is mainly focused on bars and 'cheap food'; this place would do well in a more refined environment. read more

We enjoy eating here typically every time we hit up the mill avenue area. We tend to get the meat kabobs and a fruit milk shake. These shakes taste fantastic. One of my favorite spots to eat! I travel to Tempe 3 times a year for a conference and make it a point to eat here first thing after arrival. The chicken donner is my favorite and ate it daily on the last visit. The staff are great and the one waitress is CUTE. They recently went to seated dinners but still have the walk in lunches. When my wife and I went, the place wasn't that busy. We had no problem getting our food and the girl that took our order was nice. We had the chicken Kabob which if you are new to this type of food you can't go wrong. They gave me a chili pepper that almost burned my head off, my wife had a good laugh watching me suffer. This place used to be good, the plates were expensive but tasty. Now they're still overpriced, and they cut back on meat and dish content. I payed for a beef kabob platter that costed me $14 and they only gave me 5 small pieces of meat, with a spoon of hummus. The other items were salad and rice but that was just used to make up for the lack of the other good things. I used to like eating in this place mainly,because nothing else is open. nothing astonishing about it, I had multiple pricing dishonesty where they charge me more than other customers after I complemented there gyro once and on Wednesday she charged me $35 for 4 gyros when she knew it was a postmate picking it up. They will get you something you didn't order and act like you did. They will force you to order random orders on the menu. This place is basically offering low grade turkish street food and offer horrible service. I am middle eastern and when ever I dine in I must hear a word or two from the staff. One time they got my friend a meal which he never ordered in the first place and said it was on them, when the bill came they added more than 100% than what we expected and threaten to call the cops if we didn't pay for the dish that we never ordered. never eating there again when i can get authentic mediterranean food that taste better for less at other places read more

I don't understand the negative reviews here. When I see a lot of the criticism focused on serving size, I usually take anything that reviewer says with a grain of salt. We order takeout every time we're in Tempe, and it's always amazing. The kabobs rock harder than Def Leppard on meth and their falafel is the best. I am Turkish and Med Fresh Grill does not do a good job to represent Turkish food. Their doner (gyro) is not good at all. Their Adana kebap was ok when they started their business but now it is disaster to eat. It was only choice to eat some Turkish food in Valley. Luckily, now, there is a new Turkish restaurant (called as Turkish kitchen on Warner Ave -between Arizona and Alma School Rd in Chandler) opened last week. If you try their food, you can definitely understand how Turkish food should taste. I hope with this new Turkish restaurant, Med Fresh Grill can reconsider their menu again to find the true essence of Turkish food. read more

I took it to who i guess was the manager, asking what this 15% "service charge" was, and she looked annoyed and asked me sarcastically if I wanted my dollar back... I told her to put it in the tip jar, she said she already was going to get the tip... Wow. I actually have used Yelp for a long time, but never felt compelled to write a review until today.. I proceeded to wait 15 MINUTES for a takeout I had called in 25 minutes ago, and they said it would take 10 or less.. Unbelievable, HORRIBLE service. The place was COMPLETELY empty too, there was two parties outside smoking hooka, no food and 15 minute wait? Not to mention the chicken pita mysteriously looked like beef when I got home. Decided to have lunch here today. Ordered the special "chicken gyro" with rice and side salad. I requested no rice and the woman asked if I wanted extra salad so that was fine with me. When I finally got my plate of food after about 20 minutes and one table ahead of me, it looked like a "salad" with chicken on it and what appeared to be Fry's store bought pita bread on the side. I know different places present food differently, but this did not look like any gyro plate I have ever had! In any case, I was hungry and decided to take what I got... The serving of what appeared to be tzatziki came in a puny plastic condiment cup that was not even half full. Plus it appeared to be mayonnaise based instead of yogurt based and was extremely bland. We decided to have dinner here before our Gammage play and we really enjoyed it! The restaurant was empty of customers when we arrived which made us hesitate for a second....but the owner came out and greeted us like old friends so we went for it, and are so glad we did. We started with the hummus and it was very good...I personally like mine without the heavy Tahini influence, but my teens loved it. It was creamy, fresh and the two accent olives were all mine! The pita was warm, too. We each decided to get a different entrée so we could share a few bites of each....so we had the mixed grill (the chicken was wonderful, juicy and spiced just right, probably our favorite off all the meats we tried that night), the gyro doner (i.e. dinner) and the lamb. Note: The mixed grill description on their website says it is chicken, beef and and Adana, when in fact the in-restaurant menu leaves off the beef....a bit disappointed in that. They were all delicious and fresh, though like I said above, my daughter's chicken was the highlight. My lamb was soft and cooked to perfection, but I was a bit disappointed in the very tiny pieces after looking at their menu photos. I'd say they were about 1/2 that size (the photo shows the pieces laid side by side from edge to edge of the plate...reality they were tiny little bite size pieces that had plenty of space in between, no need to cut as they were already tiny bite sized)....and for the price ($17.95) it was just too little meat. But it was delicious as was the rice. Each dinner came with another serving of hummus which was nice. The salad was rather plain...iceberg lettuce some good tomatoes and a drizzle of a nice spicy dressing. Tasty, but I was expecting a little feta and olives. Dessert: the baklava was flaky and soft (something hard to find around here as most baklava is dry and crunchy)....and loaded with pistachio and honey. I'm drawing a blank suddenly on the name of the other dessert, but it's flan-like, but has a rather strong coffee taste to it. This was a very nice dinner, delicious and the staff was very attentive. I certainly hope that they have more business at lunch, because we were nearly done with our meal before another customer came in. I imagine that the commercial My Big Fat Greek Restaurant less than 1/2 block away grabs people's attention more than this small but wonderful place does. Having eaten several times at MBFGR, I 150% prefer MedFresh Grill. As we walked back to Gammage for our play we glanced into many other restaurants......considering that it was a little after 6pm, it was a bit surprising how empty most of the restaurants were.....the bars were hopping though.....but this is a college town, I just expected more diners before the theatre, but I guess they ate at home, lol. Sad, because places like MedFresh Grill definitely make a great start to an evening at the theatre. read more

I absolutely love this place. We go on occasion for lunch at work and I always get the same thing: The Chicken Doner Plate. The chicken is noms, their hummus is as good as any I've ever had, the garlic paste they give you is delicious (but lethal--don't eat it if you have a meeting later), and their rice is just killer. Only complaint is that it's a little pricey for lunch (which is why we don't go all that often) but it's worth it if you're craving some really good Turkish chow. read more

We were a party of 5 ladies. As soon as we entered the restaurant we felt very unwelcome but we were very hungry so we sat down. I ordered a babaganoush for appetizer but the food came before the appetizer so i cancelled it. The chef started to yell from the kitchen it is a sin to waste, he made sure we heard it he repeat it couple of times. I didn't take it seriously but that was very rude. It is not my fault that the appetizer didn't come on time. I liked the food it was good I got a beef doner wrap it came with salad which had a spicy dressing which i didn't enjoy. And the most disappointing of the whole night was that when i was exiting the restaurant I grabbed couple of mint candies that they had. I was facing the door the chef called out again saying TAKE ONLY ONE. I wasn't robbing the candies i only took three.It wasnt what he said it was the way he said it. It was belittling. Overall i felt a negative altitude toward us although we were all very nice saying thank you, complimenting the food. They were much more attentive to the other customers. three of my friends were wearing hijabs, i have a strong feeling that the staffs negative altitude towards us had to do with that. No one deserves this kind of treatment because of the way they choose to live. I dont wear a hijab but I will not go back to this restaurant because i dont want to support a business who discriminates people based on their religion practices. read more

Love the food here. It is always fresh and tasty. My favorite is the chicken donner. It comes with hummus and a salad. Most everything I have tried is really good. The only thing I wish that they had was a restroom inside the actual restaurant, (not outside in another location). Also the biggest change was that you used to be able to go to the counter and order then just pick up your food and sit down. They have changed it,.... now they have a wait staff there to seat you and they take your order. This happens after 3:00pm. WHY??? I won't go there if it is after 3:00pm because we have experienced the service and it is spotty at best. Most of the time we wait for them to come over to get our order and to give us our checks,....I can't see spending money on a tip when it was so simple before to just order and wait for your food. There have been many times we've opted out of eating there because we just missed the 3:00pm time. Lots of good places to eat in Tempe where you can just order and seat yourself. This place missed the mark by changing it into a "formal dinning" situation when it really shouldn't be. Go before 3:00pm, the food is good! read more

We where looking for something healthier. The place I chose close by was not open. So we tried this. Mediterranean is almost always healthier in nature. We ordered a vegetarian plate and two lentil soups. My date was not impressed with the soup and told them "it's doesn't taste fresh or something" and I thought it was just thin but acceptable. The waiter was awesome but then what I believe to be the owner came over very loud and started to say "What are you trying to say that the soup we made this morning is not fresh" & "how can you say this" and the like and did not give much time for us to say much of anything. I just told him to take it away for her. I ate mine. Most of the food was good but nothing exceptional. Except the Tabouli that my date and I thought was some of the best ever. However even the best Tabouli is not good enough for us to be treated rudely again and get charged for something we did would not even eat. read more
