Lisa and Yolanda, I really hope my father's case was the exception because working with Medi-Cal was a real nightmare for me. I tried different Medi-Cal personnel and got different conflicting answers from them which caused more problems down the line with my father's qualification. I even made an appt, went to Medi-Cal and filled out the forms with a supervisor, only to learn later the forms weren't the correct ones. Then, a compassionate nurse on a home visit for my father gave me your number. You have handled my father's qualification and countless other issues for him. Then, when it came time for my father's annual re-determination, your help was invaluable again. Your staff did everything right. Yet, Medi-Cal received my father's file in perfect order and forwarded it the wrong office, losing it. My father lost his Medi-Cal coverage. I called Yolanda and she made 13 phone calls until she had found the file and had 2 Medi-Cal supervisors on a 48 hour deadline to restore my father's coverage. My father's coverage is being restored will be retroactive thanks to Yolanda's hard work and determination. Medi-Cal doesn't make it easy and there just isn't a way to get through their miles of red tape and misinformation without a knowledgeable guide. Erica and Yolanda have been amazing! Having the responsibility of my father unexpectedly land on us we were confused and overwhelmed. We quickly found out after his wife passed away his insurance lapsed at the end of that month we found out he had dropped his medicare and we felt we had no alternatives. He has bills prescriptions and visits the doctor fairly regularly (has dementia and other health problems - he is in his 80's) and we panicked. After my 89 years old mom fell and cracked her Lumbar #1, she was hospitalized then sent to a rehab center for recovery. I needed to get my mom qualified for Medi-Cal. I am a CPA and do taxes for a living, so I am comfortable with forms and financial documents. What I am not familiar with is the Medi-Cal application process. This was totally daunting and I felt that I would be totally lost in the process. I chose Medi-Cal Consulting Services because this firm's employees have previously worked for Medi-Cal and I did not believe I needed an attorney to do this. Most other Medi-Cal qualifying firms I found are attorneys. I was not disappointed. The preliminary phone call was thorough and very informative. My family tried and failed twice on our own to get our 89 year old father the desperately needed Medi-cal approval so we could apply for In Home Support Services (IHSS) to help with his advancing Alzheimer's. I didn't end up hiring them, but that was because they were honest in my consultation. I love companies with integrity! They detailed the steps I would need to take to get my grandma eligible for Medi-Cal. They explained that in our case it was pretty straightforward and while they would be happy to do it for us for a fee, we really didn't need to hire them. I love that they didn't make me feel obligated into hiring them and they didn't try to make easy money off of me and my family. I was also told that if I had future questions I was welcome to call/email them. And sure enough, when I hit a little bump in the road, I called them back and they had all the answers and guided me through what to do... for free! My mother is in a long term care facility due to mental, physical and end of life needs. Each year was a challenge, submitting forms and documents to social services to renew her insurance coverage. The local social service office agent was not reading and processing paperwork. She jokingly said she had 1200 folders on her desk. DO NOT PAY THEM TO RENEW 2021 MEDI-CAL. I have to write this review after I was contacted by Medi-Cal Consulting to help with my mom's Medi-Cal renewal for 2021. They were going to do the renewal for $500. The renewals for 2021 have been waived by the State of CA due to COVID. DO NOT PAY THEM TO RENEW YOUR MEDI-CAL FOR 2021, It is not required. I have reported them to the state for this. It is very deceptive. They will take your money and send in a renewal that is not required this year. In addition, they totally dropped the ball in the initial application and delayed my mom's approval for at least 3 months, without letting me know they had screwed it up until I called them because I had been notified by CA that that the application was had been misprocessed. MCS provided my mother and I with professional, accurate and direct answers to all our questions regarding my father's Medi-cal. Unfortunately, he got a very severe and combative form of dementia. When he went in to an acute hospital, the Medi-cal worker helped us apply for Medi-cal, but neither he nor the social worker could answer our questions. Shortly before he passed away, we rec'd word saying he had qualified. But 6 months after he died, we got a financial "recovery" notice from Medi-cal. The questions were pretty open-ended, with documentation required, but with no direction about the specifics of that documentation. We called MCS and were thankful to finally get straight and knowledgeable answers. I wish we would have contact them before my father got ill!
