My first jibarrito and let me just say that jibarritos are an amazing idea. However, ropa vieja jibarritos are a somewhat less than amazing idea. Not that there was anything wrong with the ropa vieja. In fact, aside from a slight excess of cumin, it was pretty damn good. It's just that a dish that wet causes the plantains to disintegrate. It was a huge but tasty mess. All the other dishes we tried were pretty good, too. I feel like the mojo on the yuca was not made with naranja agria but the yuca was very well cooked and that's no small thing. The coffee was strong, hot, and sweet as it should be and the portions of everything are large. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is small cafe-like. There is street parking out front. If I lived closer I'd be returning often. read more

I got the tostones, an iced coffee, and a chicken empanada and not only did it arrive fast, but the food was phenomenal for an amazing price. For everything I spent a little over $10. Just tried this place for the first time and the food and service were both great. We weren't sure what to try so our server recommended the steak jibarito, the Miami sandwich, and a few other things. All were very tasty and served piping hot. Desserts looked delicious so we grabbed a tres leches cake to go. It's a cute place and I hope they continue to expand their hours. One star taken off because we also fell for the bonus tip trick. I didn't even notice until I came here to leave a review and saw the other mentions. BE AWARE! You don't get a paper bill until after you've paid. The point of sale gives you the option to tip but afterwards you'll see that there's a "gratuity" automatically added and then what you add from the screen is added as a "Tip". Our lunch for three, with one dessert to-go, was $90+. We'll still likely go back but will adjust the tip! read more

This is Cafe Media Noche with new owners. Similar menu but they have put their own thoughtful twist on menu items and same great prices. I've eaten through a large portion of the menu so far and everything has been perfect. The new owners are great and come with their own small bakery business which is a great addition. Lots of food for the price. The lechon and ropa vieja are both delicious. The ropa vieja is like a fancy cuban big mac and the lechon is very moist and flavorful. I love that it doesnt cost extra to get a plantain sandwich. Their plantains taste great and dont dry out when reheated like others. The croquettes are very crispy and delicious. I also tried their flan and dulce de leche cheesecake, which were really good as well. They also have horchata iced coffee, and that was super yummy. The service was very welcoming and accommodating. Today was our first visit to Media Noche Cafe. There were four of us and the others were not familiar with Cuban cuisine, my favorite. I'm always excited to introduce friends to the Cuban foods I love. It's a small casual location with a tropical island decor. We started out with papas rellenas and croquetas and the plátanos fritos and plátanos maduros. Perfect! Two of us had the Cuban sandwich. It was delicious (a little salty though) and crispy-melty (made in a panini-type press). All of the typical sodas of Cuba including malta were available. I was so full I couldn't eat dessert (there was a case of a myriad of scrumptious cakes) with some rich, sweet Cuban coffee. Maybe next time. Last but not least, Michelle, the owner, and our waitress Julisa (sp?) were very friendly and attentive. We had a nice conversation about the origin of the café and speaking Spanish. Just as in this review, the menu could have used some translation of the dishes for those just sticking their toe in the warm, inviting ocean of Cuban food. So So upset about this place. My wife and I asked our Berwyn community through social media what is a great place to get steak sandwiches and jibaritos. Well we were told Media Noche Cafe is great. So we did and we ordered the Steak Sandwich and Jibarito along with a relleno de papa and yuca. Well sad to say the relleno barely had any meat the yuca had no flavor what's so ever and we did not eat it. Both the sandwich and jibarito had one thin strip of steak and I mean thin. Her sandwich was basically all bread and the tostone was close to burnt. What a disappointment and to spend money on that is a shame. read more

We so wanted to love this place,good cuban food very hard to find on southside. We started with coffee and pastelles de guayaba. They were decent but a completely different texture to the pastry. Would not order again. The cafe con leche was pretty good. Then we ordered a cuban sandwich, a lechon sandwich and an order of maduros. All 3 were excellent, very tasty and great sized portion. The service was great and the vibe and the music on a Saturday morning was entertaining and fun. Then came the check which was considerably higher than what we expected. All the prices were higher than what was printed on menu. I complained and she shows me a small sign on countertop that basically states that due to fluctuating cost of running a small business posted menu prices are merely a guide but they can charge whatever they want. Doesnt sound right at all Im sorry. If prices change daily so should posted price on menu. To top it all upon reviewing bill futher we learn a gratuity was already included in bill but terminal still asked me to tip again. Berywn typically has been known for great quality restaurants! However, this has to be one of the best tasting foods I've ever had. No, I don't know the owners, nor do I know anyone that works there. I had an appointment down the street and had 30 minutes to spare! It's a Cuban restaurant and had their steak sandwich. It was less than $10 and it was ready in 5-10 minutes.
