I was first greeted by the wonderful people at the front desk. Then as I sat waiting for my turn I was greeted by a sweet bird in the waiting room with quite a few cheerful hellos. It's the first time I've been greeted with something other than a bark from a patient in a veterinary hospital! One of my younger but adult chickens was having some crop issues and a prolapsed vent. I'm not a newbie when it comes to animal care but I've never dealt with anything like this and I was scared it would become necrotic if I didn't seek help. Dr. Beichner was kind and explained to me a couple possible causes and options for treatment. Because she was in good shape otherwise and the prolapse was mild he gave me hope that she could recover. He explained where we could start and where we could go. He prescribed her medication and let me know what steps I could take at home and at what point to return. I drove quite a long way a little sad and worried I might not be able to afford treatment or that it would be worse than I knew. I left happy for the trip home more confident in what to do and filled with hope that my sweet girl could recover. I am thankful for the thoughtful care they provided start to finish!

I had to go in for a medical emergency for my hen Checkers who had an oviduct impaction, so sadly we had to put her down. Dr. Schoellmann was wonderful & compassionate, asked if I needed time to process this. She explained the process, even offering a free autopsy for piece of mind. She called the next day w/ confirmation & followed up to see how I was doing. Dr. Schoellmann had a calm & understanding nature which was so reassuring. Checkers & Goldie were treated w/ dignity and kindness. The entire staff from front to back were amazing. You can tell they really enjoy their work and care about their patients/owners.

Ms.Jay very happy with all the attention she has gotten today.

It's my first time being a Chicken Owner and going into a Medical Center for Birds due to my chicken being very lethargic, inside the coop for 2-3 days and not eating much. Doctor Holly Galusha,DVM was the kindest and most outgoing doc I have met, super helpful, explained everything in details, treated me with respect and spoke very kindly. I loved her and the way she works! Totally recommend! First time review just cuz she truly was amazing!

It's been months now, but recently we discovered my Amazon parrot (37!) was a female and and had an egg stuck in her vent for who knows how long and was causing her a lot of health issues. I drove her up (about 4 hours from where we live) and dropped her off. I didn't know what to expect and was so nervous we were going to lose her. The staff tried everything they could to remove the egg without surgery but she ended up requiring a surgical procedure. I am so thankful for the staff and doctors who kept me updated every day on how she was and the procedures they were attempting on her. I could tell they truly care about our feathered family members and will do all they can to help them. Woody is doing so much better and has returned to her loud sassy self she was prior to this whole egg ordeal. Thank you so so much

We had a lethargic and then anorexic chicken who we realized needed health care on July 4th. I left a message via the hospital website and answering machine. They called us right at opening time today, July 5, and we got in right away. The female veterinarian we saw and all staff members we interacted with were professional, very knowledgeable, and caring. I definitely recommend this hospital and plan to return when we again need chicken health care.

They "only" charged $3400 for the cleanings, and failed to ask us if we are OK for them to remove all teeth from what used to be one of our dog's cute overbite. We also had to pay another $1500 for a follow-up emergency visit because they injured the other dog (and failed to tell us about it). Doctor must have a twisted sense of reality, because they told me the dogs did "fantastic" when I was called after the procedure. Dog 1: Permanent Disfigurement without Consent They extracted all six lower incisors from one of my dogs without a single phone call to discuss the necessity or get my consent. They effectively destroyed his signature look and "overbite" forever. We dropped off our cute dog and picked up a "small beast" with only two visible lower canines, all because they couldn't be bothered to pick up the phone. And I will be requesting the x-rays and get a second opinion in the necessity of the extractions, because the other incident described below shattered my confidence in their competence. Dog 2: Injury and Cover-Up While my other dog was under anesthesia, the staff managed to lacerate both of his ears while trimming his face. Let that sink in: they cut a dog that was chemically immobilized and not moving. Even worse, the doctor called me afterward and emphatically stated both dogs did "fantastic," choosing to deliberately hide the injuries. They didn't mention a word of it during the face-to-face pickup, either. Dog 2: Late night emergency follow-up visit We only discovered the injured ears after getting home. When we called, they downplayed the cuts as "no big deal" and admitted they had used skin glue to fix one cut. They didn't even provide an e-collar. A few hours later, my dog was bleeding profusely--blood was literally pooling on the floor. We had to rush him to an emergency vet where we discovered the cuts were so deep they required actual sutures. Because of this clinic's "minor" mistake, my small dog had to be put under anesthesia twice in less than 12 hours. And we had to foot a $1500 emergency bill, after an incident that traumatized our family.

Told me they would call back with the results. They never called me back. There were other issues as well. I had only been at Fairview for a month and basically had enough that fast. When I arrived at Brentwood they were on time. The vet had asked me what was my purpose for this visit. I told her that I was looking for a new vet and I want to know what my cat's follow up blood test for his thyroid was because I hadn't heard from Fairview. She did a physical exam and went over the test that was sitting on fairview's desk for 10 days. She showed me the test results and went over everything. Our kitty was suffering from her recurring seasonal cough, but instead of starting treatment, we were told multiple tests were required first. We ended up spending hundreds of dollars on tests that, in hindsight, did not appear necessary. Concerned about the approach, we sought a second opinion from another veterinarian. They performed only the essential tests, prescribed medication, and our kitty recovered within just a few days. I later contacted the clinic to request a partial refund for what I believed were unnecessary tests, but my request was declined. Every pet owner should make their own decision, but based on our experience, we felt the focus was more on generating revenue than providing compassionate, cost-effective care. Instead of focusing on the likely timeline of my dog's issue (such as how a UTI or infection might progress if that's what he has), the visit shifted into a male dog anatomy lesson on Google. I already had some background knowledge--which he didn't check for--but what I needed was guidance on possible health scenarios and what to watch for progressively. When I tried to ask more detailed questions, it felt difficult to keep the conversation on track. During the exam, he had on jeans, socks with Birkenstock-style sandals, with a scrub top. While attire isn't the most important element in delivering top quality care, in a hospital setting open-toed or sandal-style footwear usually violates safety / biosecurity requirements as it increases the risk of animal scratches, exposure to fluids or slipping. If that wasn't enough to feel a bit uncomfortable with this doctor, he also took it upon himself to bring up an old employee discount my partner once had and referred to him as my "boyfriend" without knowing our relationship. I had already clarified at the start of our visit that the discount no longer applied, so his comment felt unnecessary and personal, and I perceived it as biased. Overall, I left with concerns about how communication was handled. I later saw that some reviewers also had negative experiences with Dr. Gonsier's bedside manner, which made me feel my visit wasn't unique. My goal in sharing this is not to call anyone out, but to underline that professionalism and clear communication really matter in a space that is saturated with sub-par experiences. When those pieces are missing, trust and comfort in the care being provided can slip. I am fortunate that money is not an issue in being able to care for my pets, but doing business with a hospital that has someone like Dr. Gonsier on the team doesn't leave me feeling great about a long term relationship.

The Pet Advocate offers significantly lower prices compared to Bay Area vet clinics, which sold me. Even their highest price for an extraction is only $40 (pre-molars and molars). After submitting my pet's information online, I was contacted shortly after with availability a month out and paid my $50 deposit. The instructions say drop-off is at 8am so I got there at 7:45am. To my surprise, there were already a ton of people there waiting for their pets' spay/neuter and dental cleaning appointments. By the time I was checked in and allowed to bring my dog inside, it was closer to 9am. Having come from a boutique-like vet in D.C., I was put off once I got inside. The waiting room was so busy, and there were so many cats inside from Animal Service, pet owners, and rescues. It just felt too crowded. Once we got to the back for the examination, it felt even more crowded and very factory-like. However, the vet was attentive, addressed all my concerns, and the vet techs were very friendly and gentle with my sweet pup. Before leaving you do have to pay first. Please note it is about a 3% additional fee for debit and credit cards, so I recommend bringing cash! Initially, I thought all my dog would need is dental cleaning. However, a few hours later I received a call from his vet technician who explained the x-rays showed serious bone less in one of his pre-molars and a molar. She explained to me the additional amount owed for the medication and extractions so I could be prepared. When I went to pick my dog up at 3pm, there was yet another long line and it took another 30-40minutes for most of us to be called in. The vet tech took the time to sit with me and explain all the limitations, how the procedure went, showed me the x-rays, and advised me on post-care. It helped put me at ease. For the price, it was worth coming here. The only cons were the check-in and checkout system, the number of animals there at one time, and how crowded the examination area was. Aside from dental cleaning and vaccinations, I probably would not come here for anything else. In addition to the driving time, factor in about another hour for check-in AND check out. A week post-op and my dog's extraction sites are healing very well so I'm still satisfied with the service!
